Air Bag Problems of Plymouth Voyager - part 2

Air bag warning lite illuminates. Dealer reports that the air bag clockspring needs to be replaced at a cost of $350. Contacted Chrysler customer service on 5/20/02 and Chrysler offered to pay half of the cost of the repair.

This clock sring mechanism is in the steering wheel and controls your airbags, directional signals, horn and cruise control. It's my understanding that your airbags do not work when this mechanism is broken . I had just replced this part 12 months earlier.

Consumer states that the airbag illuminated, then consumer states the horn does not work, when turning steering wheel there is a clicking grinding noise. Consumer found a recall for the same problem on clockspring. Please provide any further information. Nlm.

Horn failure and cruise control. Dealer says clock spring has failed. Dt.

The manufacturer's assembly located in the steering column, refered to as the "clockspring" is defective- causing the following problems: (1) a false airbag warning lamp, (2) un-commanded windshield wiper operation, and (3) intermittant operation (on/off) of the cruise control system. Horn failure is also a known symptom of a defective "clockspring". I believe all of the above symptoms can be classified as a safety issue and it should be the responsibility of the manufacture (chysler corporation) to replace the defective component at their cost. Airbags lights stays on/ speed control and horn do not work. Clockspring failure.

The air bag/ clockspring was defective and affected the horn, cruise control and automatic locks. This is becoming a common problem for vehicles similar to my make, model and year, according to our mechanic. Upon research via internet, its an apparent problem and yet a recall has not been issued. I would like reimbursement since this was defective. Thank you for looking into this matter.

The vehicles clock spring failed and caused the horn and cruise control to be inoperative. The consumer request reimbursement for this repair. Ph.

Clock sping component failed causing deactivation of air bag, horn, and cruise control. I believe this is a design defect and a safety issue and this part should be recalled and the manufacturer should repair free of charge to the consumer.

Transmission failed to shift into higher gears. The first time the dealer replaced some parts in the transmission, the second time the dealer stated the entire transmission needed to be replaced. Ts and the clock spring needed to be replaced.

This assembly disables the airbag system. It also disables the criuse control and horn systems.

Due to failure of clock spring, unable to use horn and airbag inoperative-safety compromised. This part was on the news as a problem but not a recall yet! cost $345. Oo to fix. This system should not fail.

Defective clockspring, causing safety systems not to work.

Clock spring needs replacing. Noticed recent recall for Chrysler sport utility for this same problem. Also noticed a large number of van owners have this same problem. Are you investigating? is there going to be a recall on minivan clock springs due to high incidence of failure?.

Failure of this part rendered the airbag system ineffective. Also the horn would not work, nor would the cruise control work. Approx $230 to fix. T work.

I first noticed this problem when cruise control quit working. Horn quit at the same time and air bag red light came on and has stayed on.

Consumer was traveling 25mph on highway and light for airbag came on dashboard.

Srs light stays illuminated while driving. Also, the horn assembly is inoperable. Dealer has been notified.

Light for airbags came on dashboard. Consumer wanted to know if there was a potential danger. Dealership has been notified. There were no injuries.

The clockspring defect is common--causes airbag to become inoperative.

Horn does not work, dealer replaced airbag and horn module. Mechanic told consumer airbags were packed too tight . Horn still does not work on cold mornings after four dealer visits to fix it.

Dealership contacted the consumer to inform him that the seat belt recall 02v076000 and air bag clock spring recall 02v293000 repairs were already performed. Then, consumer never took vehicle to dealer have the recall repairs performed. Manufacturer will be contacted.

Consumer experienced symptoms of the clockspring recall. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who indicated that the cockspring was not the cause of the problem. The dealer indicated that in order to dignose the proble the consumer would have to pay a diagnostic fee. The consumer took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the problem as a faulty clockspring and repl;aced it. The consumer request rimbursement for the expenses paid to repair the vehicle.

Ea01-007,airbag and horn is inoperative due to a defective airbag clockspring which is located inside steering column.

The consumer has experienced the following problems. Transmission failure, fuel rail line and tank. Clockspring, head gasket, and the wipers will come on when not in use. Scc ph.
