Power Steering Light On Problems of Chevrolet HHR - part 2

As I was driving the power steering warning light came on and the power steering went out. Very hard to drive. I turned off the car and when I restarted it; it ran fine but after about 30 minutes the light came back on and the power steering went out again. I noticed this has been a problem for other Hhrs of other years and they were recalled. Anyway this year can be as well?? I just bought this car 2 months ago and really can't afford issues with it already.

I was driving my 2007 chevy Hhr when the power steering light came on. I stopped and turned the car off. When I started the car again it fine, but after a mile or 2 the light came back on. I have stopped and started the car again several times and the same thing keeps happening. That tells me that there really isn't anything wrong with the car. I wonder how many other people are having the same problem.

Went to back Hhr out of my garage and the brake pedal was rock hard with no give. Power steering has no power and the exc light is on. Not safe to drive at all. I have had numerous problems with this car. The ignition, air bags, brakes, door lock actuators. . . The list goes on. This one takes the cake due to safety concerns.

On the date above I had my power steering warning light come on and stayed on for about 2 hours. The next day when I started the car the light was out. Well this week I received a letter from gm stating that if the light comes on or if you have had an issue with the light coming on to take it to your dealer. These are the exact words in the letter: if this condition occurs on your 2006 Chevrolet Hhr, the condition will be repaired for you at no charge. Today took my car in for a routine service and ask the dealer about the letter and he said he would check on it. A few minutes later he told me they had a power steering motor in stock and it would take about 45 minutes to install if I had the time and I said I could wait. He came to the waiting room and said I was ready to go and the steering motor was not the problem causing the light, but the steering control module which is part of the steering column assembly and not covered by the letter. Well guess what, the steering column assembly is only sold with a new steering motor, so if I replaced the column gm gets $578. 59 for the part plus labor cost to install and they pay for nothing to cure the issue. I was a mechanic on road trucks and heavy equipment for several years and know if you have an electric motor it has to get it's commands on how to react from some type of control source ( steering control module) would be my guess wouldn't you think. No where in my letter does it state steering motor only is covered to solve the issue and no where on the reimbursement request form does it say they will only reimburse for the motor. I had an online chat with a gm customer service and was told only the motor according to her written information. When I requested a copy of what is covered, I was told to ask the dealer for a copy.

My power steering light came across the dash and I could not steer my car to good. It will not go out now and I have 2 kids that we almost got into an accident when this happened. I have only had my car a year and a half and I think someone should be fixing it for me at no cost.

" if they have this part in stock should they not fix it now and not let this power loss happen again? I have to work and I'm very nervous this will happen again without warning. I also never recieved a recall notice a year ago or I would have had this done then. Thanks.

I was pulling out of a parking space at wal mart and a beeping sound got my attention and then I realized the steering wheel was almost impossible to turn. . I stopped in the middle of the lane and turned the car off. . . We sat there for about 15 seconds and I started the car again and the steering was fine then. . We then drove about a half mile to the dollar tree and it happened again as I was pulling into a parking space. . I parked and we went in the store. . When I came back out it was working again. . . Then today, sept. 15, 2014, I pulled into the library and as soon as I started to turn into a parking space, the steering wouldn't work and the beeping sound started and the power steering light was on again. . . . I turned it off right there and waited a few seconds and it was again working. . . We don't trust taking this car anywhere and had planned an extended trip to washington to stay with our granddaughter but we just don't dare do it. . . This is such a huge safety issue and we want it fixed!!!!! also, the service air bag light has been on for almost the entire time we have owned the car. . I have all the reciepts of taking it in to be checked and the charges we have incurred. . . It has been on the last time for over a month as we had just had it in again . . The light went off for about 20 miles after we left the dealership and then came on and has been on ever since. . . This whole thing has been ridiculous!!!!!! who can help us?????.

2006 Chevrolet Hhr LS driving down the highway and the power steering light came on in the dic. Had difficulty steering back home on the highway. Replaced fuse and starting working again, but a few minutes of driving made it turn back on. Turned car off and then back on it worked fine, a few minutes later the power steering light came back on and the power steering stopped working again.

We were on vacation and I was traveling on a road at the posted speed of 30 mph. I was going around a bend and immediately my power steering light came on, there was a chime, it became very difficult to manage the bend I was going around and I hit a light pole damaging my front bumper. At that same time, my mhp and rmp needles began bouncing back and forth and the car was "jerking". I turned the car off. It was still drivable, but within a few seconds the power steering light came back on, the needles bounced and car jerked. I called gm to see if there was a recall on the power steering. They informed me that there were several gm power steering recalls on several years of Hhr, cobalt and saturns. They all have very similar power steering mechanisms. However, my year, 2006, was not on that recall. I have researched and found thousands of people with 2006 Hhr's complaining of the same issues but not understanding why that year is not included in the recall.

Taking a used car for a test drive ,downshifting to stop at a light to take a right turn heard an alarm then the power steering illuminated on the dash. I told the salesman that it was hard steering and the light was on , he told me that it was just low on fluid. I got home and did some checking to find that it's electric power steering. Is there a problem with the motor or what? I put down a $2000. 00 deposit which they say is non refundable. Are they liable to fix it before I leave the lot or do I wait for a recall?.

I own a chevy Hhr 2007, the power steering light has been on everytime I used the car since April 2014. Because of not being able to make turns, I almost caused a car accident in highway a month ago. So, I just got off the phone talking to chevy customer service, I was told my chevy Hhr 2007 isn't qualified for lifetime warranty of power steering motor replacement, which is conflicted with the news gm released on March 31st, 2014. . I subsequently learned that if I turned off the ignition and started up again, it would start working again. The power steering has gone out 5 more times since then when I was driving or exiting the freeway.

I was driving on a back road with sharp turns. My car binged a sound, a power steering warning light came on the dash. That instant I had no power steering going into a sharp turn.

In June of 2014 my cars ignition turned off as a result I almost impacted with another vehicle. Also after this my temp guage no longer worked. Took it to bill holt Chevrolet where they replaced my ignition switch after I got it back my drivers door will not lock or unlock consistently not even with the key, my service airbag and power steering lights keep coming on, and now radio and instrument panel lights go off. I have to stop turn the car off and restart they might come back on and they might not. I am reluctant to take the car back to bill holt Chevrolet as they kept the car for 3 and a half months to repair the ignition. Also I can get no satisfaction out of them when I picked up the car the last time my temp gauage still wasnt working they said it had nothing to do with the recall. I am reluctant to drive for any distance as the power steering fails often. I have contacted gm on several occasions and can get no satisfaction from them either.
