3 Driveshaft problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 03/01/2021

When coming to a full stop, the transmission down shift really hard. It makes the vehicle jerk forward. It doesn't matter if you are going up hill/downhill or on a flat road. I took it to the dealer at 4k miles for this reason and was told it was a known chevy issue but that they had no way of fixing it. I took it back a second time at 5k and was told the jerkiness and poop the transmission does is a gm defect design but that they had no way of fixing. Dealer said other owners have installed a 3rd party single piece drive shaft with angle spacers but that was not covered by gm warranty. Dealer essentially wanted me to fix the harsh shifting and clunkiness by going with an after market parts provider. A work around that has seem to make the issue more bearable is putting the truck in tow mode it smooths the ride out but it tends to make the transmission run about 2040 degrees hotter.

5 Driveshaft problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 02/01/2020

My truck shakes from the moment we pull off from a stop and shakes until we get up to 70mph. We had an alignment and that did not fix anything. Gm is fully aware of the issue and has done nothing except put out a service bulletin for diagnostics that costs an arm and a leg! we cannot drive this vehicle because we are afraid we will lose control. This happens on paved and dirt roads and inside city limit streets (30 mph) and interstate roads (60mph+). We are also afraid to drive the truck fearing that it would get worse and the driveshaft might drop. $60k truck sitting in our driveway wasting away.

7 Driveshaft problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 04/04/2017

Under acceleration and cruising highway speeds the vehicle vibrates and shakes. It is felt in the floorboards, seats, pedals, steering wheel and in the bed of the truck. Vehicle has been into the dealership numerous times getting alignments, wheel balances, and pico scope tests. Under my own investigation I found the factory driveshaft was not straight, out of round and out of balance so I had a professional driveline shop build me a new one. Also under my own investigation I found the rear axel hub flanges were out of round as well and the local dealership had replaced them. Vibration still exists and there seems to be no answers coming from gm.

8 Driveshaft problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 12/11/2016

While driving on the expressway, the drive shaft broke off. This caused the vehicle to lose control. Luckily, the vehicle was able to make it to the side shoulder without causing an accident. The dealership replaced the drive shaft and rear differential, but no one (even when I contacted gm priority care) could inform me why this happened. With me having two small kids, I am still concerned that this could happen again.

9 Driveshaft problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 10/15/2015

So due to known issues with the yolk on the differential, the lag in the transmission shift and engine communication leads to extreme vibration at highway speeds and clunking and jerking while driving around town. So when the transmission shifts there is a delay in the motor recognizing it so it revs up some so when the transmission finally finds the gear it causes it to kick. And since the yolk has play in it, it causes the differential to clunk as the rotation of the driveshaft catches up at a quicker rate. Which leads to more looseness in the yoke and creates a wobble in the driveshaft. And an unsettling sound while driving around.

13 Driveshaft problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 12/28/2014

My truck had approximately 10 miles when I purchased it in Dec 2014 and has been in the shop pretty much ever since. Immediately after purchasing the vehicle, I felt a very substantial vibration around 76+ mph. Initially, 2 tires were replaced and balanced; that did not correct the problem. Then the dealership indicated that gm said I have to put 500lbs in the back of the truck and the vibration will stop; this is not even remotely practical. Subsequently, the tires have been rotated and force balanced several times throughout the past 2 yrs. In June 2016, the dealership stated the problem was that the tires were mounted on the rims incorrectly and replaced all four tires and balanced them; the vibration continued. After trying to schedule another appointment with the dealership over the same issue, they will no longer call me back. I have attempted to schedule an appointment at least 8 times within the past month to no avail. Several people have indicated the problem is quite possibly the drive shaft b/c the entire truck vibrates while driving down the road. Therefore, I took my vehicle to another dealership where they told me I need to rotate and balance the tires. After discussing the history of the truck with them and requested the service dept. Check the drive shaft, they stated the service manager said it is not the drive shaft (which was not inspected to my knowledge) and told me the tires need to be forced balanced and they could not help me. This dealership referred me to another dealership for assistance. I have been fighting this issue for almost 2 years now and cannot get help. Further, neither of the dealerships have made me aware of the bulletin and have not tried anything past the replacing & balancing the tires. The vibration is so bad other things in my truck are starting to come loose and vibrate.

16 Driveshaft problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 05/20/2011

When stopped at a light or sign, when you released the brakes it feels like someone hit the rear bumper. This is cause by the york at the rear of the transmission is sticking. Gm dealership will sand and lube the lube. This covers up the problem for a couple of months. If you want the problem fix it will cost you about $350. 00. The yoke is not cover by the drivetrain warrenty. Even though the yoke is the wrong one, because they will replace it with a nickle plated york and then the problem is solve. The york is the part that comes out of the transmission and hooks to the driveshaft. If the yoke grabs and breaks the rear of the tranny, the driveshaft will drop out and hit the ground. At high speed this could cause a fatal accident.

18 Driveshaft problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 02/15/2010

I was backing out of a parking space in my 2004 silverado z71 extended cab and the driveshaft broke in half. I have @106,000 miles on the vehicle. It is currently at a repair shop to be fixed. I have never taken this truck off-road. I am very concerned as I have read many others with 2004 models have had the same thing happen. This could have been a major safety issue had it occurred while highway driving as the entire rear driveshaft in the middle of the truck was hanging down onto the road.

19 Driveshaft problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 06/22/2009

First my brand new 2004 silverado's drive shaft flew out on the freeway at 15,000 mi. That was fixed under warranty. Then at about 28,000 mi. My rear end gears were making whining noises ever since the drive shaft flew out and I brought it to the dealer 3 times before they finally tore it apart and realized the gears were damaged and they replaced that under warranty. Then at 65,000 mi. On my truck the transmission was slipping really bad so I brought it back to the dealership and they found that a few gears were burned up so gm and I split that bill 50/50 to rebuild the transmission. Now I find myself in the same situation at 85,000 mi. On my truck the transmission it broken again and wont even work. The truck is at the dealer and gm and the dealership don't want to warranty anything on it and want to offer me $2000. 00 cash back to buy a gm car which at this point I've had nothing but problems with. Car is at the dealership now and im waiting to hear back from gm. This is the fourth time my truck has broken in the drivetrain area since new.
