1 Horn Assembly problem of the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 07/11/2023

I have a flex tail gate which is all electronic. The tailgate will not stay up , it keeps on falling and unlocking for no reason. Button the tailgate lever does not work. Took it in to the dealership in July and they had to order the part. It is almost Dec and still not hear. The tailgate fell in my garage and I did not know it when I put the door up it scratched my tail gate. I was driving down the road before this issue and my tailgate fell and I had all my work supplies in the back. Somebody honked the horn and told me. If they didn't this would have been a major accident with all my supplies falling out of the back. This is a major safety issue. . I have read about it on the chevy website and they said they had a problem with the switch on the chevy flex gate from 2019-2022. They said they fixed the problem for 2023.

3 Horn Assembly problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 10/20/2020

1st occurrence, 9840 miles- slowing to stop sign, about 10mph, truck jumped violently, felt like I was rear-ended. Service parking brake, service esc, traction control off messages and cel on. Stuck in gear. Restarted truck, resumed normal operation but cel remained. 2nd occurrence, 9865 miles - 65mph on highway going around curve, truck jumped violently causing rear end to break free slightly, though I kept control. Transmission now several gears lower and stuck there, turning 2400 rpm at 65mph. Same three warning messages and cel. Tried manual transmission mode, but it displayed no gear indication, and the +/- buttons did nothing. Pulled off highway, restarted, all messages went away, cel remained. Truck resumed normal operation. 3rd occurrence, 9905 miles (on the way to the dealer) - I was stopped at traffic light, first in a string of cars. Light turned green, I started to accelerate, just into the intersection, truck jumped violently, same warning messages, still had the cel from the last time. Truck was now stuck in a higher gear, could barely get through intersection. Vehicle behind me narrowly missed rear-ending me, and others were blowing horns as I limped to the far side of intersection. This is a massive safety concern. If any of the above scenarios had occurred on snowy/icy roads, I could have injured or killed someone, including myself and/or my 3 year-old. Dealer replaced tcm, but is still noting "loss of communication" codes being generated. A chevy engineer has requested them to investigate the wire harness for damage in a particular location, suggesting chevy knows of a manufacturing issue. If that's so, and chevy hasn't issued a recall - or even a TSB - then this poses a strong case for negligence on their part. Are they waiting for someone to get injured or die before acting on this? I've now been without the truck for 10 days.

7 Horn Assembly problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 05/16/2017

Traveling at approx. 65mph on us17 a divided four lane highway in traffic when the engine shut off with no warning which resulted in complete loss of lights, signals, flashers, horn, and the steering wheel went into locked position. I was able to safely bring the truck to a stop in the grass median. After collecting my thoughts I tried to restart the truck but there was no response and all electrical functions would not operate. About 10 minutes later while I was on my cell phone with a tow service the interior lights cam on along with the radio. The truck started up and after calling the closest gm dealer which happen to be only a few miles away I made my way to the dealership service dept. They were quickly able to identify the problem as gm had issued a service bulletin #pit5405c on this type of issue. It was caused by dashboard fabric trim being caught under a ground post during assembly that resulted in loss of all electrical service. The truck had approx. 40,000 miles at the time of the event and it seems it took either two years or that reasonably low mileage before the problem surfaced. The dealer repaired the problem by simply losing a ground post and trimming out the fabric intrusion. They were great and apologized for what they saw as clearly a defect in manufacturing. They did charge as the truck was out of the 36,000 mile warranty but said I should contact gm customer service for help with the cost. Gm refused but it was only about $100. 00 so that is not the issue. How can a company allow this problem to exist and be aware of it ( technical bulletin issued). It is a wonder that I or another motorist on the road with me was not hurt or worse. This not like a truck not starting but total loss of control at highway speed. Thanks dennis duffy 919-210-0100.

11 Horn Assembly problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 01/14/2008

I own a 2008 silverado that I bought new before the bailout and everything at chevy was being given away. My problem is intermittent and seems to fix itself, I have had the a/c not work abs lights flash, power door locks fluctuate and all that while driving. When it is parked I will unlock it using the key fob everything will light up truck will unlock get put key in the ignition to start and everything will shut off. It is as if someone took out the battery, I have no horn no 4ways no power of any kind. Now it does not do this all the time but is happening more frequently. Last time I took it to the dealer the tech told me it fixed itself he dont know what he did,but told me to get rid of it as soon as possible. That was while it was under warranty now it will cost me a small fortune for them to tell to get rid of it.
