Instrument Panel Problems of Chevrolet Silverado 1500 - part 2

While traveling at a speed of 60mph the speedometer would increase to around 100mph. After coming to a complete stop the speedometer still registered 35mph. I was able to reset the speedometer by cycling the key on and off 5 times. I've had the same issue at least 3 times now. This should be a recall issue before someone gets hurt or killed, not to mention all the speeding tickets being issued for this defect.

I have a 2004 chevy silverado and a 2004 trailblazer both of them had the speedometer go out after 80,000 miles. Updated 12/15/09.

Without warning of any sort my 2004 z71's speedometer has quit working. It stays below the 0 mph mark and if it decides to come alive while I'm driving it is completely off. I can be driving 20 and it will say I'm going 50 mph. This is my primary vehicle. . . . I have 3 little girls and this is our main source of transportation. Why won't gm recall this? I'm also hearing the clunking sound that so many other people have reported it is accompanied by a wobbling sensation in the steering column. I can't afford to keep having these issues serviced just for them to stop working again. Recall or lemon law.

Speedometer started working erratically giving incorrect speeds. Sometimes stuck at zero and other times stuck at different speed. Many other people are complaining of same problems. Please make chevy recall and fix no matter what mileage is on vehicle.

Steering column is faulty in two of my 2004 Chevrolet silverados. Had it repaired by gm but it keeps messing up and causing vibrations, clunking and altering the steering . Also both of my trucks the speedometer has completely quit working at 40,000 miles. How safe is this????? please please do a recall on these two items.

Initally, the speedometer gradually started displaying incorrect speeds without alerting me to a failure in the system. There were no significant enough changes in behavior at around 95,000 - 100,000 miles on the odometer to cause me to notice the problem. It wasn't until one day while I was going much faster than the slower lane traffic on the highway that I noticed a serious deviation in the reading ( I finally figured it out while starting to drive much faster than regular traffic flow while the speedometer kept gradually dropping any time I slowed even slightly until it registered around 40 mph when I was passing middle-lane trafiic in a 65 mph zone). I stick pretty close to the speed limits and observe recommended speeds (e. G. Yellow signs on curved highway) especially while towing trailers. Had this happened to someone else while pulling a trailer around the mountains of colorado and wyoming, there could've been a serious injury/death level accident. I didn't see a recall on the instrument cluster or speedometer using this sites database search.

2004 Chevrolet silverado speedometer not working. When stopped it reads 70mph and up!!!!!!!.

The driver's side ac randomly starts blowing hot air while we are driving along in our 2004 silverado which started about 2 years ago at about 80k miles. In order to get the ac back, we have to pull over and turnoff the engine and then start it back up. Some days it never does it, sometimes several times and usually on the freeway but sometimes on city streets too. This is in addition to the speedometer, and other instrument panel issues that have had to be repaired over the last 2-3 years (after the warranty expired).

We bought a 2003 chevy Silverado 1500 pickup for our daughter to drive to college. The speedometer quit working correctly; it would give random (incorrect) speeds, or none at all. We spoke with different mechanics who said the part costs $500. They said this problem is common to the 2003 chevy silverado pickups. 2005 Chevrolet silverado speedometer stops working and/or sticks between 40 and 60mph at rest. This appears to be a common gm truck issue and it's a common topic on the gm message boards as well. Gm apparently knows of the problem but no recall has been issued. This needs to be recalled as it is a very common defect. Your immediate help is requested. Because we are unable to gauge speed accurately this has created a dangerous safety concern that could place others (the public) at risk.

The evaporated canister went bad. The mechanic said normally this should never go bad. 1 week later the speedometer fails. The cost to repair the canister was 290. 00.

My 2003 silverado speedometer is no longer working properly. This seems to be a common problem with these vehicles. It will sit idle at 20 mph while sitting still and say that I'm going 90 when I'm going 70 mph( or so I think. Just guessing ). The web sites and dealerships are saying that gm will only fix it if your car is under 7 yrs old and under 70,00 miles. This seems to be a problem with many gm cars and is a danger to drivers(we do not know the actual speed we are going!).

Just bought my 2005 Chevrolet silverado 24 hrs ago. Speedometer went out. Reads 120 at all times. This is very dangerous , also illegal. Something needs to be done to resolve this issue. Gm should have quality product !.

2005 chevy silverado truck with 79,000 miles started experiencing problems with the speedometer jumping and sticking. We brought it to the dealership and was told $538 to fix it. However, after searching the internet to fix myself, I discovered that many people have experienced the same problem and there is a lawsuit pending because of this problem.

The speedometer in my 2005 Chevrolet silverado quit working, or will register inaccurate speeds. My truck only has 54000 miles on it and I know that they are "extending" the coverage on the 03-04 models but not the 2005's. This failure could easily cause speeding tickets or worse, accidents. Gm is fully aware of this problem and they need to correct it. I am trying to get mine fixed through gm but they will likely only pay a percentage of the very expensive repair.

2004 chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 crewcab has a defected instrument cluster which causes the speedometer to stick or stop working. There was a recall on this issue but gm refused to honor which I was never notified of.

I have a 2005 chevy Silverado 1500 the speedometer shows it is going 120 mph sitting at a stop sign. From online research I found that this is an ongoing problem, since 2003. My truck has 38,720 miles on it currently. It creates an unsafe condition, since I can not determine the correct vehicle speed.

My instrument panel quit reading actually speed. It only does it every once in while. It always reads slower then what the actual speed is. After the truck is shut off awhile it reads right after the truck is restarted. The price is around 500 to replace. My truck I bought used with 100000 miles on it. It got 114000 now so I will have to replace it unless a total recall is done on it to replace all instrument clusters for all with more then 70000 miles on it.

Speedometer not working.

I have a 2004 chevy silverado z71. At 40,000 mi, the speedometer started to lag and move in "fits and starts" (very jumpy). It finally stopped working and now only reads 60 mph regardless of actual speed. All other instruments work fine. Only the speedometer exhibits this behavior.

Speedometer indicator does not go to zero, starts at 65 mph and goes over 120 mph. Immediate failure. So far checked to see if a recall, noted that your website had over 35 complaints above instrument cluster.

Erratic speedometer does not correctly indicate speed. Can show both lower and higher than actual speeds. No corrective measures at this time. Using tachometer to gauge speed.

Speedometer just quit working, jumps from 10 to 70+. Shows a minimum of 10 mph parked. Not exactly safe to not have a clue how fast your going. I searched on the net suspecting an isolated problem, but found this has affected 8 to 10 models for 4 plus years, are you kidding me. Just one of thousands with the same dangerous problem!!!!!.

2004 silverado truck has a failure of oil pressure, temperature, tachometer, and speedometer gauges. Unable to gauge speed or possible engine problems due to intermittent failure of gauges. Am not covered due to mileage of vehicle.

Speedometer sticks at 30mph, will not reset to zero.

At 57,055 my 2005 chevy silverado speedometer quit working and since I had received a letter about a class action suit I referred to this letter however it only covered the 2003 and 2004 models. I feel that the speedometer is an essential part in the safety of a vehicle and therefore am paying my $200 deductible to have the speedometer fixed under my extended warranty plan, but I also feel that gm is aware of that this problem extends beyond the 2004 models and is failing in their customer service by not extending the warranty to cover all affected vehicles.
