2 Starter problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 10/09/2020

I have a 2020 Silverado 1500 lt trail boss with just over 5000 miles on it with one previous recall which was completed. On this occasion I was traveling on the highway at roughly 65mph when alert sounds came on followed by a message on the cluster saying to shift the vehicle to neutral and push start button. I did that and there was no response. I was in the fast lane and did not have enough speed to get to shoulder so I pulled to center turn lane of highway to stop. I attempted to start the vehicle several times over 5-10 minutes with no response. Cluster gauges would cycle like when vehicle is started, but it did not engage the starter. I also tried to remote start from key fob with same response. There was traffic traveling at high speed in opposing direction on either side so it was unsafe to inspect the vehicle. I used onstar to get roadside assistance and about 15 min later police showed up to provide assistance. Onstar said it would be close to an hour for a tow, but police got me one about 15 minutes later. Luckily texas cops are pretty cool so we just hung out until tow truck arrived.

3 Starter problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 05/17/2020

While driving vehicle on city street, going straight or turning, voltage will go down and result in the truck cutting out (radio) lights flicker (headlights and dash lights) and service stabitrak will come on dash then the airbag light will come on. With final result of having surges of power steering with voltage drops. Resulting in almost a head on collision. Pulled over and shut the truck off for a minute then it will be fine. Took to local Chevrolet dealership, they visually checked all engine grounds, battery terminals, starter wire, alternator wire, and power steering wires. Everything checked out good. It did throw 13 dtc's related to low voltage. Haven't had a problem in 7,000 miles and now it is starting again. I am uncertain of the faulty issue, and so is my local dealership. But, they wanna try all kinds of different things at my expense, which I think is wrong. There are recalls for the same year of truck with the same issues.

4 Starter problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 03/22/2019

Vehicle has several electrical issues. First, power steering fails at low speed turns. Then, the car occasionally loses all electrical power (screens, gauges, lights, starter, garage door opener) while parked and off. Then last week, it lost all electrical power at 70+ mph on the highway. Lost power steering, all screens turned off, gauges when to zero, etc. This lasted for about 3 seconds and then everything came back on. Many warning lights including power steering, traction control, parking assist disabled. This also gave a 4wd service warning. Now, I get the service 4wd warning every time I start the vehicle and it will not go into 4 wd.

7 Starter problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 05/26/2018

Vehicle was parked in a shopping center parking lot after being driven for approximately 15 minutes. When returning to the vehicle 10 minutes after parking it, the vehicle starter was attempting to start the vehicle despite no remote start or onstar app being activated to start the vehicle. The vehicle continued to attempt to crank and start, even after I unlocked the vehicle with my key fob, inserted the key into the ignition, and attempting to start the vehicle and turn off the key. The vehicle continued to attempt to crank and start and I smelled a strong electrical burning smell. I then saw blue/greyish smoke coming from the passenger side where the hood meets the windshield. I then gathered my belongings from the truck and watched from a safe distance. After the smoke, the truck no longer attempted to crank or start itself and the smoke was gone within 5 minutes, although there were small instances of smoke over the next 15 minutes. The truck was put on a flatbed tow truck for further diagnosis at the local Chevrolet dealership. Initial diagnosis indicated that the "starter had consumed itself" and was the cause of the smoke I saw, but no further information was available. It was quite scary to have a truck attempt to start itself with a small electrical short/fire as a result without a key being needed.

11 Starter problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 09/19/2009

Prelude to this event, involving my 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (approx 16,200 miles), was the warranty replacement for the failure of all 4 power door lock actuators. The actuators failed one at a time and each time an actuator would fail, the vehicle would shock the driver when touching the metal door while exiting the vehicle. The last actuator was replaced by the dealership on September 18th, 2009. On September 19th, 2009, after engaging my vehicle into reverse gear, the dashboard electrical went dead. Gauges went dark and radio began to blink. Within 5-10 seconds, smell of burning electrical came into the cab of the vehicle. I popped the hood and my passenger immediately identified a fire near the transmission on the passenger side. The fire was extinguished before engulfing the vehicle. After inspection, we found a shorted out wire near the starter and a broken transmission cooling line. The cause of both anomalies is unknown at this point. Vehicle is at the dealership that the vehicle was purchased from. This occurred under "normal" conditions on an improved driving surface.
