2 Underhood Wiring problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 02/20/2010

February 20, 2010 I smelled a burning electrical smell. After a quick look under the dash on the passenger side I found smoldering wires from the wiring harness that is attached to the heater fan. The wires run from the heater fan motor to the resistor. The resistor is also damaged. The wires had to be replaced as well as the resistor. The parts dealer said that this part frequently must be replaced on this model truck and they keep at least 30 in stock just for this reason. This vehicle only has 63,575 miles on it. As a result, I was unable to use my heater or defroster which resulted in being very cold on my drive home from work at 6am and I could not defrost my windshield to see properly.

3 Underhood Wiring problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 04/19/2009

I was driving to work, had lower and heat on. First I smelled something burning, then I noticed smoke coming from behind glove box and through the passenger dash vents. I had my truck towed to the dealer. I started the truck again while there and noted same problem. I turned my truck off and the blower and took my keys out of the ignition, but the blower continued to smoke. I had to call the fire department who came out, disconnected the battery and found burned wires behind the glove box. The dealer blamed it on a resistor and a wiring harness connected to the blower motor which burned out. They replaced the blower connector and resistor. I asked twice for the defective parts to be returned to me but the dealer did not comply with my request. The truck has a strong smell of smoke in it upon its return to me.

5 Underhood Wiring problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 10/28/2008

Wires underneath dash of my 2007 silverado crew cab caught on fire on 10/28/08. Smoke came pouring out of the dash. Called dealer and had them tow vehicle to john megal chevy in dawsonville, GA. Tore dash apart only to claim that the installation of an after market brake system caused the fire. Would not cover repair under warranty. Had to pay $376. 95 before they would let us move the truck to the other mechanic that installed the brake system. After mechanic that installed it reviewed the truck, claimed that is should have been covered under warranty. Claims brake system was installed correctly. I spoke with 2 more independent trailer dealers and they confirmed it was installed properly. John megel chevy would not cover under warranty even after our research and other professionals confirmed. We had to pay $1300 to have all wiring replaced, $300 in truck rentals, $376. 95 to john megel. We are out $2000 for something that gm should have handled. The disrespect we were shown from this dealer is unbelievable.
