1 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

Within the first two years of owning the vehicle it developed cracks all along the dashboard. The cracks got bad enough that recently a large piece of the dashboard fell out. I have attempted to get Chevrolet to help pay for replacing it but they are unwilling and I cannot afford the entire bill alone. I am worried that the airbags will not work and that having electrical and mechanical exposed will cause harm to myself or the vehicle.

Failure Date: 05/06/2011

Instrument cluster failed . Took vehicle to dealer ,they wanted $500 to replace. Took it back several months later and tried to negotiate a lower price and also found that this has been a widespread problem and that some customers report online that they have got the dealer to replace at no cost. My cluster has not been repaired and I am seeking to have gm repair it for free. .

7 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/20/2009

At approximately 4 years and 45,000 miles after purchase of my 2005 Suburban, the tachometer began failing with intermittent low readings or no reading. Since the vehicle was out of warranty and the tachometer isn't really very useful for an automatic transmission vehicle, I was not overly concerned and I did not bring the vehicle in for repair due to the anticipated high expense. Shortly after the tachometer failure (about 55,000 miles) the gas gauge began failing with erratic readings. Ultimately the behavior degraded to a pegged counter clockwise condition where the reading now stays at all times. Although inconvenient, the 'miles to empty' information display seemed to continue to work normally and I decided I could use that method instead of having a repair performed. I've been using that method ever since without any issues, but I tend to be conservative and fill up before I come close to being empty. Within the next six months after the gas gauge failed (about 60,000 miles), the volt meter began giving erroneously high readings of about 20 volts. It was a pretty rare event. When it showed this over voltage condition, I checked the charging voltage at several locations and found the voltage to be normal. When I determined that there wasn't an actual over-voltage condition, I wasn't too concerned about this infrequent issue. Several months after the gas gauge failure, the speedometer began failing with low or no readings. It started out to be a very rare occurrence. The issue now seems to be occurring with greater frequency. The increased failure rate concerns me since it can result in a safety hazard as well as could result in a costly speeding ticket. I was not notified of any of the gm campaigns for this issue on the same model vehicle on different vins. Gm's position is any repair will be at my full expense (approx $600).

8 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/21/2009

Just got into my 2005 chevy Suburban 1500. The speedometer stop working. Registering 100mph while I was at a stop light, not working at all while I drove back to the house. There is a lawsuit for 2004 models and only up to 70,000miles. This is a cluster failure affecting thousands of Suburban, tahoe, and similar model owners. The dealerships are charging an average of $450. 00 to repair this defect that, judging from the lawsuit is a common problem. It affects my monitoring of my speed and endangers the public and also puts drivers in a bad position with law enforcement. Gm is obligated to repair a problem that they had knowledge of. There are too many of these vehicles on the road to allow this defect and potential safety issue to go unchecked.

12 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/25/2008

Instrument cluster failure. Gauges not accurate. I was told instrument cluster would need to be replaced at my cost.

13 Dashboard Failed problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/12/2007

Speedometer in the instrument cluster failed on my Suburban z71 model year 2003 with 59,611 miles. Speedometer readings ranged from 0 mph to 120 mph. I had to use a gps to regulate vehicle speed until the truck could be repaired. I had the instrument cluster remove and repair on February 12, 2007 by dealer at a cost of $448. 89 and only a 1 year guarantee on the replacement cluster. The dealer has indicated that this is a common problem with the vehicle.

14 Dashboard Failed problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/10/2005

I was unloading items and pushed the hazard light button on the steering column. That's when the entire electrical system of the vehicle went haywire. The engine began making a loud clicking sound, the gauges went out of control, the stereo read out began flipping through numbers and since this incident the driving lights that should come on when vehicle is started they flicker and at times go out. The entire situation has occurred now four times since 09/10/05. I just bought the vehicle 07/01/05 and from what the records show on the vehicle I am the second owner. This incident has occurred twice while driving in traffic to where the entire vehicle including the engine shuts down. So far I have avoided a serious collision from the defects of your vehicle; however, this could be the result of a very serious injury accident or even a fatal accident. I see where you have had a number of complaints regarding this same defect and Chevrolet has done absolutely nothing to correct the situation. It is time for Chevrolet to take action on this defect instead of telling the customers to take the vehicle to a dealership to have it diagnosed. The gas gauge has been effected and no longer shows accurate amount of gas in the vehicle. I am kindly asking Chevrolet to make good on their manufacturing of their vehicles and to please put the safety and lives of your customers first and foremost before the concern of what it will cost your company to correct this default.
