Chevrolet Suburban owners have reported 45 problems related to engine burning oil (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
My vehicle uses 1 qt of oil every 2000 miles right now, it was every 4,000. So the problem seems to be getting worse. When I shared this with the service department at both norther neck Chevrolet and riley Chevrolet, their response was that my issue was still with in specifications. I didn't realize that oil consumption was acceptable. Gm, instead of fixing the problem appear to be ignoring it. I have an 06 chevy silverado that has never used a qt of oil.

Vehicle has excessive oil consumption, using more than 1 quart of oil every 2k miles. I purchased the vehicle at a gm dealership with 67k miles on it. They told me it was just serviced, and the dipstick showed to be at the full line with clean oil. About 4k miles later the low engine oil light came on. The engine oil life indicator said it had 49% life left. I checked the oil level and found it was more than 2 quarts low. I have researched this and found that gm is either unable or unwilling to repair. I will contact the selling dealer for the record.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated the vehicle uses excessive oil between oil changes. The contact stated the vehicle consumes up to three quarts of oil every three thousand miles. The contact stated the vehicle has not suffered any damages due to the excessive oil consumption. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer to diagnose the oil problem. The dealer stated they will replace the pistons and piston rings. The contact stated the repair may not remedy the issue of the oil consumption. The failure mileage was 63,000. Jo.
I am seeing an excessive oil consumption issue with my 2007 chevy Suburban. From my measure it is consuming 4 1/2 qts of oil per 3000 miles. The dealer acknowledged that this is a "known" issue but didn't perform any repairs. I am instead performing an oil consumption test. That's fine but I now have a family vehicle that I cant trust for anticipation of engine failure/lock up or worse engine burn up or fire from a low oil condition.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that the check engine light illuminated. The contact was informed that there was a leak and the evaporation vent and filter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The vehicle began burning oil and the contact had to refill the oil every ten days. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000 and the current mileage was approximately 106,000.
Vehicle is burning approximately 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles.
Excessive oil consumption of the 5. 3l engine. It 'burns' a quart of oil between 1100 and1500 miles. The TSB issued on the engine fixed nothing. Chevy said they won't do any more which is indicative of the corporate culture at chevy. This has been an ongoing problem.

My 2001 chevy Suburban 2500 lt has 52000 miles it is burning oil on long trips. It has been in the shop four times for this. Chevy does not want to pay for this problem because it is not a recall as of now. They want my private warranty to pay for this. I also have a fifty dollar deductible that I must pay. There is a TSB on this which I have a copy of. I also think the engine sounds like it has a slight knock. I was told there is a recall on the brakes for rust corrosion which it has been two weeks and I have not received my recall. I am afraid to drive this car. About four months ago, I was driving this vehicle and it would just die. I would lose all power . It was very hard to steer it to the side of the road. Luckily I never had anyone behind me or they would have slammed into me. It was in the shop for this twice. The first time they said it was probably the oil filter so I picked it up and it did it again. I told the service manager I was afraid to drive this truck and if something happens to my family I would sue them well the second time they found the problem it was something with the fuel injector. I am very dissatisfied with this truck and I also feel chevy is not backing their truck.

Vehicle burns 1 to 2 quarts per 1,000 miles driven. Have done 5 oil consumption tests and gm says that although vehicle failed oil consumption test the test were not done properly therefore I must do another. Asked gm what they would do if vehicle failed oil consumption test again and they stated that were not sure. Gm refuses to fix oil consumption problem which could lead to serious mechanical failure and possibly bodily harm.
I had a 2001 chevy Suburban with an oil consumption problem. It used 1 to 2 quarts of oil every 2000 miles. After several complaints to the dealer and gm I was forced to file a lawsuit which was heard by an arbitraitor. I was awarded full msrp vaule of the vehicle while gm maintained their position that nothing was wrong even after failing their oil consumption test. I now have a 2002 2500 Suburban with no problems. The engine in the 2001 1500 Suburban has an oil consumption problem !!! dealer still refuses to refund extended warranty monies .
