36 Wiring problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 05/22/2001

While driving consumer smelled something burning, stopped and saw yellow smoke coming from behind driver's door panel, sparks were flying. Smoke stopped, fuse had blown. Mechanic found that wire to outside mirror switch. After further investigation, it was found that the wire was 14 gauge. The electrical short occured at the mirror switch.

37 Wiring problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 03/10/2001

Intermittently vehicle will not start. Dealer has inspected vehicle, and discovered that wires to battery were loose. Since dealer reconnected wires, vehicle stalled out and died. Dealer inspected vehicle, and was not able to duplicate or correct problem.

38 Wiring problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Suburban

Windows don't always come down when consumer pushes window button control or main control, possible wiring failure which causes the inside light dims when the window buttons are pushed.

40 Wiring problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 05/01/2000

Engine wouldn't start. Towed to dealer. Started and dealer couldn't find problem. Stated it was probably fuel pump since had seen this before. Finally failed after surging and dying during drive. Found "burned" (said darkened insulation) wiring harness which damaged other components from fuel pump to engine.

41 Wiring problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 03/06/2000

Inner harness shorted, causing the dome lights to come on when riding over bumps, the accessory light also did not work, the dealer found a loose connection at the rear lighting.

Failure Date: 12/14/1998

Electrical connnection to the fuel pump in the fuel tank overheated, causing the insulation of the wires to melt which could have resulted in a fire .

Failure Date: 11/25/1997

Original battery (delco) cracked and spilled battery acid on hoses and wiring. Replacement battery (delco) failed in similar fashion after 65,000 miles.

Ac delco battery. Consumer states that the positive terminal is failing, and acid is leaking on to the electrical wiring and air conditioner ,coming to the positive terminal and down to the ground.

45 Wiring problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Suburban

While driving inside of driver's door caught on fire. Consumer managed to pull over, and had vehicle towed. Dealership was notified, but the problem was not resolved.

Delco battery was cracked causing acid to leak down the wiring to the frame. Nlm.

Consumer stated that on the morning of February 23, 2004 heard the alarm go off. She went to the window, and saw vehicle engulfed in flames. Fire department was called, and they determined that the problem was electrical.

48 Wiring problem of the 1996 Chevrolet Suburban

Delco battery case cracked and leaked acid. Original battery and replacement both failed in similar fashion. Problem was reported earlier and I was contacted by NHTSA investigator. He asked if there had been any corrosion of brake lines or air bag wiring. I did not know. Have now checked and found corrosion on a brake line and air bag wiring which runs directly under battery tray.
