This SUV is nothing short of a rolling hazard. The "check engine" light is on and off, again, for the past 6 days. Tried to start it up this morning and the engine light was on. As soon as I was about to back out of the driveway, the vehicle started to idle in a manner that caused the rpms to crank way up and then plunge until almost shutting the engine down with violent shaking and loud roaring noise. Yesterday, the stabilitrak warnings (2) came on the dashboard - I was only going 3 mph exiting a parking lot. There was no inclement weather and the road was bone dry. I haven't been able to pick up power and it seems like the more I press on the gas pedal, the slower I go. I live in houston and the traffic conditions really don't allow for a "sudden stop" or loss of power on a freeway where people are traveling at an average speed of 70 mph. I have had 4 other instances of this "check engine" light in 3 yrs. The dealer isn't much help and gm chevy is no help at all!!!! the tv commercials they run about chevy trucks are "like a rock" are very true. This Trailblazer is as useless as a rock.

The fan clutch on this particular model has a long history of failure, repair mechanic has replaced many of these units. This failure causes a loud noise to emanate from the engine and renders the vehicle unsafe to drive due to potential engine overhearting and fan clutch lock-up.

2002 Trailblazer suddenly started making loud noise as if a jet airplane and delayed transmission shifting, along with loss of power. Took it to mechanic and they replaced fan clutch to the tune of 730. 00.
My chevy Trailblazer has a loud sound when driving or idling. Its sounds like a dump truck. Have taken it to a mechanic and they have said that it is the fan clutch. I then had the fan clutch replaced and the sound continues.

2003 Chevrolet trail blazer makes a roaring sound while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician rode with the consumer in the vehicle and heard the noise as well. The technician checked everything but could not find anything wrong.
Consumer took vehicle to repair shop because of the following problems; rack and pinion failed twice/air conditioner malfunctioned twice/vehicle stalled at take off/ oil leak, and brake lights failed to operate properly. Also, vehicle made a loud noise on driver's side while driving.
Poor performance from engine causing the vehicle to not perform in a normal manner while driving. Intermittent no start problems, extremely poor fuel economy st times, excessive noise usually at start up. Very rough idle at times and very poor acceleration at times. This was experienced by the service manager at crowley Buick/olds during an oil change. The problem causes a safety issue as the vehicle does not accelerate normally. Gm has offered me an extended warranty after I was told a year ago that the vehicle was operating "normally" by a gm factory rep who looked at the vehicle. For the past year my wife has driven a vehicle with my 2 boys that does not operate properly. I have contact gm and have been told three times they would contact me. Other than "thank you" emails I have yet to speak with someone in authority at gm.
2002 chevy Trailblazer- while traveling on I-76 in philadelphia, PA at approximately 55 mhp the engine in my Trailblazer began to make a loud noise, lost power & shut off. The vehicle had approximately 5,400 miles on it at the time. Fortunately, I was somehow able to make it off the highway without incident. The outcome of the problem was engine failure, a liner within the engine came loose & caused piston failure. The vehicle had to be towed & the engine replaced.
