Air Bag Light On Problems of Dodge Caravan - part 2

I purchased a used 1998 Dodge Caravan van at westside Dodge 1672 cassat Ave jacksonville FL 32210 and was told by the salesman that the airbag light was suppose to stay lit and the a/c lights were supposed to be blinking. When I found the owners manual the day after I purchased the van I read that the`airbag light is suppose to go off in 8 seconds after the car is started and I also read that when the a/c lights are flashing the a/c needs to be serviced. I advised the salesman and was told to bring the van back to the dealership when I did they tried to charge me $119. 00 to check the airbag and $49. 95 to check the airconditioning. I refused to sign any consent and tried to speak with the used car sales manager and was told "we only sell junk cars to the public as a courtesy", and than he hung up on me. I also found another complaint from another customer of this dealership who bought a new car and had the same exact air bag problem and to this date it has not been resolved. Please help me get this resolved, I am driving a vehicle that is unsafe to drive and has no air conditioning.

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Caravan. While driving approximately 40 mph on normal road conditions, the frontal air bag warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The warning indicator remained lit until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing and they stated that the failure was due to the frontal air bag sensor. The VIN was excluded from NHTSA campaign id number 07v192000 (air bags;frontal;sensor/control module), although the failures were identical. The vehicle is in the process of being repaired. The failure mileage was 64,000 and current mileage was 65,000.

2001 Dodge Caravan consumer's air bag light came on and stayed on. We have had this issue for years, the dealership said it is not under warranty. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and the clock spring was replaced. This vehicle was not included in the clock spring NHTSA recall 04v480000 due to VIN.

I have a 2005 Dodge Caravan, purchased new. It has 64000 miles and has never been in a collision and has never had the airbags deployed. The airbag light has come on and will not go off. There was a recall in may 2007, but the dealer states that my VIN number is not included. We live in western NY where road salt has been heavily used, which has been identified as part of the cause of this problem. The dealer stated to me that it would cost me $94. 00 to get a diagnostic test and then an additional $250. 00 to fix it. I don't understand why I should have to pay for this repair when 2005 Dodge Caravans in 27 states have been recalled and fixed free. My vehicle fits all the criteria for this recall except for the VIN number. What recourse do I have in this?.

There was no incident. The van hasn't been driven in 3 years. Air bag light is on and horn don't work.

The air bag light stays on all the time the clock spring was replaced then it happened again. This is a major screw up. It is amazing someone has not been hurt or worse killed. Unlike many others we still had cruise control and the horn. What is it going to take to make Chrysler stand up and take control of this situation. Lord knows they got enough of our bail out money to fix all the cars several times over. Please do the right thing and recall your product.

On our 2005 Dodge Caravan the air bag light came on. When we brought it in to the Dodge dealer we were told that the right hand front impact sensor was bad. They said the wires were corroded and the sensor was bad. It was not covered under warranty and would cost $250. 00 to replace. After looking at the Dodge recalls they did recall this problem for the 2005 Dodge Caravan but not ours. The problem with the sensor on our van is the same as what the recall said.

In addition, the air bag warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel and remained lit until the engine was turned off. The right turn signal indicator operated intermittently and the horn did not work. The failures occurred without warning. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was unavailable and the current mileage was 83,600.

Air bag light comes on and remains on. I took the van to the shop and the mechanic placed on a diagnostic machine and stated that there was nothing showing the something was wrong with the airbag and that I should take the car back to the dealer.

Through research, he found information stating that the illumination could result in the driver's side air bag becoming disabled due to failure of the clockspring bag. The clockspring bag was repaired on April 21, 2003. The contact is in the process of taking the vehicle to the dealer for inspection per the manufacturer's advice. The manufacturer stated that there was no recall on the air bag system in the vehicle. The contact was informed that there was a current recall regarding the clockspring bag; however, his VIN was not included in the recall. The contact would not receive reimbursement for the repair. The failure mileage was 64,000 and current mileage was 65,000.

I own a 2004 Dodge Caravan. The airbag light illuminated two days ago. Brought it to the Chrysler dealer for repair. The dealer diagnosed the problem as a broken airbag clockspring which is housed inside the steering column and also not covered under the extended warranty that I purchased at time I bought the car new at the dealer. This item controls the proper airbag and horn function and should not "break" under normal driving conditions. I was charged 450. 00 for this repair. I believe this is a manufacturers defect and should be investigated. The vehicle was never in an accident and this part does not require maintenance.

I have a 2006 Dodge grand Caravan and I have 55,000 miles on it. My air bag light came on and it stays on. The book said to get it fixed immediately so I called a dealership that is 30 miles one way and they said it would cost $79. 00 to look at it and it would cost up to $300. 00 if the air bag sensor was bad. I then called a local auto shop and they said they could check it for $49. 00 and they did. The rt front air bag sensor was indeed bad. It had corrosion inside it. The total bill might come to $150. 00 or more. I checked on line and see, there was a Dodge/Chrysler recall on the 2005 model for corrosion getting in the sensor and causing them to fail (which is the same thing my 2006 did) why isn't the 2006 models included in the recall? I called Chrysler and they said if it gets put on a recall list then I would be reimbursed for my expenses because that would be a safety issue no matter where I had it fixed.

I purchased a 2002 Dodge Caravan in December 2006. The airbag light was illuminated. I twice had to bring it in to get it fixed and was told that the seat belt tensioner was defective, and then that the tensioner was loose. The light came back on several months later and was told there was a short in the wiring harness which had to be replaced. Is this a manufacturing defect?.

They ran a airbag system diagnosis and determined air bag would not work, they said they had never seen an airbag defect. Dealer called Dodge representative and representative denied the request to correct (pay for) this problem. This vehicle has never been in an accident. This should be considered as a serious defect as if an accident would have occurred the airbag would not have worked/inflated.

My 2003 Dodge Caravan with 33000 miles on it now has the air bag light coming on just like my 1998 did. Is there a similar problem on the 2003?.

The air bag light on my 2002 Dodge Caravan went on. Then steering wheel started to make clicking noise when turning corners. Then directional indicators would not turn off after making a turn. Finally, I almost got into an accident because my steering wheel locked and I could not turn a corner. I forced it and it did turn. I will not drive this vehicle again. I called a Chrysler dealer and they told me it sounds like the clockspring. The mileage on this vehicle is only 33,000 miles. Since it is out of warranty I would have to pay for it because there have not been any recalls for this as of yet. This is the second Dodge Caravan that I have owned. The first one was recalled for the clockspring also. I know that Chrysler has a history of bad clocksprings. Are they waiting for enough accidents to happen? I want Chrysler to fix this problem for me, free of charge. This is not an abused vehicle. I take care of everything I own. How can they make such poor parts?.

I bought a Dodge Caravan 2002. Out of nowhere the airbag light comes on when I turn the steering wheel. I took it to a Dodge dealership to have it checked but because my Caravan didn't fall into the category of that recall it was not taken care of. The person at the service desk did say that many Caravans have had that problem. So I called Chrysler corporation and they stated that because the car has 80,000+ miles on it they will not do anything because it is out of warranty. Even though the defect was there before. This isn't fair and I think that it should be taken care of by Chrysler because they sold the defective van to begin with.

Air bag light stays on. Dealer states clock spring is defective and Chrysler does not deem this to be safety hazard,warranty or recall issue. Therefore will not pay to fix problem. Parts for fix unavailable and repair is expensive.

Air bag light remained on all the time. Brought van to dealer knowing that their had been large recalls of vans with airbag problems in the past. The clockspring needed to be replaced. Company claimed that there was no recall for 2002 models. This seems to be an ongoing problem for Dodge and should be covered by them. Also not covered under the warranty. Also problems with the rear windshield wiper motor breaking.

(1) the airbag light was staying on during vehicle operation, and the horn and cruise control were also non operative. This is on our 2001 Dodge Caravan. We also have a 1999 Dodge Caravan that received a safety recall (notification code d17) for the exact same problem, only it covered 1998-2000 for the recall of clocksprings. Our 2001 Dodge Caravan had the same symptoms as the recall for the 1998-2000 Dodge Caravans, but was not covered, since it is a 2001. Since the same part is failing on the 2001 models, I believe the same defective part is being used on the 2001 model Dodge Caravans. (2) airbag, horn, and cruise control were inoperative (3) dealer replaced the clockspring, which is the same defective part covered under a recall of the 1998-2000 models of Dodge Caravans, which was notification code d17. This was done at our expense, and I feel that there are many other owners out there having the same defective clocksprings replaced on their 2001 (and even later) models of Dodge Caravan.
