Airbag warning light lit. Looked up on NHTSA website, Chrysler issued a"safety improvement campaign" copy enclosed. I took my van to the dealerto have it fixed plus a new key and a recall notice for a fuel/stalliny problem. I was informed that the airbag problem was not covered because of the VIN number. The van was purchased in mass. And I purchased it in rhode island. I donot think I should have to pay 216. 61 dollars to have this fixed. Thank you.

The airbag warning light is illuminated due to a malfunctioning clockspring. This disables the airbag system. This was recalled on earlier model Caravans but has not been completed on 2001 and newer models which have the same issue. The light has been illuminated since vehicle purchase and has had inactive airbags. Recently, while turning the steering wheel hard during a power steering reservoir replacement, the air bag light began to turn on and off clearly due to shorted wiring at the clockspring terminals.

I bought a 2006 Dodge Caravan in 2009. It had 20,000 at that time. Shortly after purchase we drove the van approximately 100 miles. It began making roaring noises so I pulled over and stopped. After sitting for about 20 minutes, I started the car again and there was no noise. Every time I traveled for over 45 minutes, this would happen. I took the car to be looked at several times but no one could find a problem. Finally in January of this year the car started making this noise all of the time and my son-in-law, who is a mechanic, said that it needed power steering fluid. That fixed the problem for awhile. In March, I took my car in and was told that the rack and pinion needs to be replaced! very expensive! the car is now only making noise when I go through standing water. Also, the airbag warning light illuminates at intervals. It seems that a lot of people are having these same complaints. I think that Dodge needs to do some recalls and some repairs!.
I own a 2005 Dodge Caravan, that has 2 recalls for the front airbag sensor. One the covers the state I live in, massachusetts, and one that covers another 350,000 vehicles in those same states. My airbag warning light has been on for 2 1/2 years, the dealer told me that it would be a recall item, and to wait to have it fixed. That was the dealer in lowell, MA. Now my van has failed state inspection due to this reason, and Dodge said that my van isn't covered. The only criteria is that it be garaged in massachusetts, which it has been for the last 5 years. I need this recall to fix the problem, so I can drive my vehicle legally. It should be covered, and if I have a crash, I don't know if the sensor will deploy the airbags.
Horn stopped working. Horn fuse is good. Air bag warning light came on and has stayed on.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) have a 2005 Dodge Caravan which I purchased from new. Approximately 2 months ago noticed that the airbag warning light came on. Tried to reset the computer by disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it after a while . This eliminated the warning light for a short period of time. Found out that there had been 2 recalls on these vans for a similar problem. Called both Dodge and the local dealer we purchased the Caravan from, after giving them the VIN number ([xxx]) they said this was not part of the recall. The recall describes exactly what has happened to my Caravan. Why is my Caravan not covered by the 2005/2006 recalls.

2006 Dodge Caravan airbag warning light illuminated.
The contact owns a 1999 Dodge Caravan se. The contact stated when the vehicle is started, the air bag warning light would illuminate on the instrument panel and remain illuminated. In addition, the vehicle horn was inoperable. The contact received notification of a recall campaign (NHTSA campaign id number: 04v480000: air bags) which she believed was directly related to the failure. The recall letter advised a new clock spring would be installed in the steering column. The vehicle had not yet been taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The contact stated the vehicle had previously been involved in a crash but there were no injuries. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 147,750.
The air bag warning light comes on sporadically in the beginning, then it just stayed on as long as the vehicle is running. I took the car to the dealer and they said the clock spring needed to be replaced. It wasn't under the warranty and was informed no recall. I had to pay $301. 00 to fix.
Frontal sensor/air bag my air bag warning light in my vehicle has be illuminating for almost 2 years now. I looked into a recall at the time my dealer service center advised me of the meaning of the warning light. At that time I seen a recall for the air bag sensor and my vehicle was not part of the recall. Now here almost 2 years later another recall is posted for the same sensor and my vehicle is still not part of the recall. The sensors still have not been replaced.
The contact owns a 2002 Dodge Caravan. The contact stated the air bag service light would intermittently illuminate on the dashboard either while driving at any speed or upon starting the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed because the cause of the failure was unknown, there would be several repair attempts to determine the cause of the illumined warning light. The contact was not comfortable with the dealer not being able to determine the failure and declined. The failure persisted intermittently. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 80,000.
My 2005 Dodge Caravan. Air bag warning light came on. Airbag is inoperable, but Chrysler cannot supply new sensors for at least a week, or more, according to local dealer. It's an industry-wide problem, they say, with many sensor failures. This means that many Chrysler owners are left to drive without operable airbags. . . Not a good situation. Chrysler should have been prepared for this.
: the contact stated the front passenger seat belt became stuck. The seat belt did not retract and was not able to be pulled out at all. Also, the air bag warning light illuminated constantly. The vehicle was taken to a private repair shop, where the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the seat belt problem. When the air bag was tested, the mechanic stated that there was a code which only the dealer could decipher.
Airbag malfunction warning light illuminated.
The consumer drove the vehicle 600 miles before noticing that there was no horn. This was on 8-9-05. The vehicle was a rental. It was rented on August 7, 2005. The consumer took the vehicle to a dealership in the area where she was on a trip. He told her that the wire to the horn was clipped. On the return trip she noticed that the air bag warning light flickered on and off. This was on 8-15-05. She returned the vehicle to the rental company.
The airbag warning light has come on repeatedly for the past 8 months. The Dodge service dept was initially unable to determine the cause. They have now determined that the steering wheel clockspring has malfunctioned and must be replaced.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Caravan. The contact stated that there was a loud noise coming from the front driver side wheel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the rack and pinion were defective and needed to be replaced. In addition, the air bag warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who stated that the air bag located on the steering was pushing against the plastic and caused it to detach. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 86,000 and the current mileage was 88,000.
The horn and the cruise control failed to operate when the air bag warning light came on. Upon having the air bag clock spring recall 04v480000 repairs performed dealership indicated that the horn failure was not related to the defective recall part, and charged the consumer $100. 00 to have the part replaced.
We own a 2001 Dodge Caravan. The air bag warning light alerted us to a problem. The dealer diagnosed the problem as a failure of the clockspring. A recall was recently issued for clockspring failures on the 1999 and 2000 Caravans. The dealer, for a cost of $255. 48, replaced the part. Apparently the problem was not resolved on the 2001 models. I believe the potential problem exists and should be addressed.
After starting the vehicle air bag warning light illuminated, and the horn failed intermittently. The dealership repaired the vehicle, however the consumer had to pay for the charges even though there as a recall on models up to 1999.
When drivin at an undetermined speed air bag warning light appeared on the dashboard. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the clock spring failed.
When driving the vehicle at an undetermined speed, the air bag warning light appeared on the dashboard. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, and the mechanic determined that the clockspring failed. The horn and the cruise control did not work at all. (the air bag, horn, cruise control all tie together through the clock spring, same circuit failure per consumer).
