While driving at any speed, the air bag warning light appeared on the dashboard. Consumer was informed by the dealership that the clock spring failed. When the clockspring failed, it also caused the cruise control to be inoperative.

I own a 1997 Dodge Caravan, with approx 139,000 miles on it. I just read in the birmingham news about the NHTSA investigating daimler-Chrysler's 1998-1999 Dodge Caravans/Chrysler town & countrys/Plymouth voyagers. The article states the vans had a defect with the steering wheel/airbag. Mine is doing this exact thing. About a month ago, the airbag warning light came on, and the horn and cruise control quit working. Please include the 1997 model years in the investigation.

Warning lights malfunctioned, causing brake lights to flash intermittently, and air bag sensor to stays on. The brake light flashed, the engine light and air bag light illuminated and the horn was inoperative. The air bag and horn problem may be the result of a clockspring failure.

Consumer stated on Aug. 4 2003, due to brake failure the vehicle was involved in a rear end collision with another vehicle. Consumer was not injured in the accident, but none of the air bags deployed. The air bag warning light did not work either.

Illumination of air bag warning light (at first, intermittently, then continuous) followed by lose of cruise control and horn functions. Vehicle type: 1999 Dodge grand Caravan se. Approx. Mileage: 91400.

The air bag warning light will not go out. Took it to ramey, an authorized dealer, they said safe to drive, but they did not fix it, the light still stays on. I am concerned that accidental deployment of air bag or failure of air bag. No confidence in the operation of the air bag.

Airbag warning light comes on intermittantly. Vehicle doesnot qualify for recall.

Consumer stated dealer refused to perform recall remedy 02v293000 because air bag warning light was not illuminated at the time consumer brought vehicle to dealership.

While driving air bag warning light came on due to a malfunction in the clock spring that would have caused air bags to be inoperative in a crash.

The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Caravan. When starting the vehicle the airbag warning light illuminated. The dealer informed the contact that the clock spring needed to be replaced. The clock spring has been replaced three times on June 27 2002, September 2003 , and January 3, 2007. The dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. Also, the contact stated that linkage on the front sway bar was replaced three times. When driving the vehicle there was a noise. The road conditions were not a factor. The dealer stated there has been a modification to the linkage, and the vehicle was repaired. The current and failure mileage was 42,500.

Horn stopped working also when air bag warning light came on.

My family owns a 1997 Dodge Caravan that is four years old, and has 48000 miles on the odometer. The air bag warning light came on, and stayed on during driving 10/7. The owner's manual claims that the system is maintenance-free, and if the warning light comes on and stays on, to take the vehicle to a dealer for inspection and repair.

Ea-01-007. When making a left or right turn, air bag warning light flashes on and off, and at times remains illuminated. Consumer has contacted dealer. Dealer replaced the clock spring.

The airbag warning light came on. At the same time, the horn and the cruise control ceased to function. In addition, the wipers come on at random, but especially upon using turn signals (wiper controls are incorporated into the turn signal lever).

This is clearly a defect, but manufacturer refuses to effect repair without charge to consumer. Noted another complaint with same problem. Recommend opening of defect investigation.

Engine aservice and air bag warning lights indicate a potential safety problem. Dealership /manufacturer has been unable or unwilling to correct the problem.

Safty issues - air bag warning light came on and vehicle was taken to the dealer repair shop. I was advised that the air bag would not work as the "clock spring was defective" . Also, the dealer indicated the "clock spring" could also cause the horn & cruise controll to fail. I had the clock spring replaced by dealer at my expense.
