My husband and I purchased a Dodge Caravan from a dealer and since purchasing it, we have had nothing but problems. Our door lock system has stopped working in which my mother who is disabled and can only be put on one side of the van related to her stroke, was unable to exit the vehicle. The locking mechanism wouldn't let us open the door and we live in texas. We had to keep the car running until we were able to transfer her to the other door. We now can only put her in on her "bad" side which puts her at risk for injury (and us). After that we had problems that started with the gages bobbing up and down and the interior lighting system is not working right half the time. It also has the anti-lock brake system light come on and then the front end shakes. We have replaced the alternator, grounding wires, checked fuses and battery and cables. Nothing has worked, but there is no check engine light to get codes from until the car was at an intersection and died!!!!! now it is frequently dying when we are at a stop for red lights, stop signs and . . . Recently it died while I was yielding for a left turn. I have had several car accidents and I nearly got t-boned at this intersection. Even when the car dies, it would usually start right up until a month ago. Now it may start up right away or it may not start for 15-30 minutes after it dies. In texas we need the air conditioning. I am now refusing to put her in something I consider a "death trap". I am now putting this down in writing because I have now a code that says it is the body control module. From reports, there are hundreds of these same vans with this same problem. It needs to be recalled as it isn't an isolated problem. And now if this van dies at a critical traffic maneuver and I or my husband or mother or children become injured, we will look into legal action.

The contact owns a 1993 Dodge Caravan. The contact was driving 40 mph when the abs and the brake lights illuminated. The contact pressed the brake pedal but the vehicle did not respond until the pedal reached the floorboard. The contact shut off and restarted the vehicle and the brakes worked normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where he found that NHTSA campaign: 96v099000 service brakes, hydraulic was the cause of the failure. The recall repair had been previously done on the vehicle. The vehicle not not be inspected or repaired. The failure mileage was 145,000.
Abs brakes light along with traction controll lights always stay on. Both my 2009 Dodge ram 1500 and my 2009 Dodge Caravan have same problem. Dealer says the abs module must be replaced at cost of 575. 00 which is not covered under warranty. I find it hard to believe this same identical problem happening on 2 different vehicles made by same producer is just coincidence.

Front wheel rotor and brake pads both needed repaired / replaced. They have caused the brake light to come on periodically and noisey. Again they are causing me concern.
Vehicle -2009 Dodge Caravan. I have had a problem when the vehicle is on cruise and have been driving for a while. If I hit the brake, the brakes do not work. I have to jam hard on the brakes for the cruise to disengage and the brakes to work. The red brake warning light goes on, and stays on for about two to three minutes. I have taken the vehicle to two different dealers for this problem 2-15-10, 2-16-10, 3-18-10, 8-10-10, and 8-16-11. I have another appointment set for 8-23-11. The car is dangerous and the dealers just seem to replace parts without really knowing what the problem is.
The vehicle had an on-going problem when applying the brakes. The pedal goes to the floor and pulsated. This resulted in extended stopping distance. The dealership indicated to the consumer that the problem was the master cylinder, but no parts available at that time. The consumer was too nervous to drive the vehicle. There was no prior warning and or the brake light did not indicate that there was a problem.

Height sensor valve, rear left brake (the actual date of the incident was January 5, 2003, however, the incident date segment did not provide the year 2003. Also, the number of failures section. . . Once failure occurred, it continued)
went to mechanic to find problem. There was another 1996 van there with the exact same problem (quite coincidental, which prompted this complaint). Mechanic said the height sensor valve needed replacement, could only be done by dealer due to the fact that it was a dealer part only and that the gas tank needed removal. The reason I am proceeding with this complaint is due to the fact that I had little to no warning that brake failure was imminent. During one trip (approximately 30 minutes total), brakes began to feel "spongy", then brake light came on, then total brake failure. Fortunately, we were on neighborhood roads without our three children in the vehicle. Van was inspected in September, no indication problem existed.

Brakes: proportional valve had failed. Consumer noticed that brake pedal was getting spongy. Then, had check on brake fluid, where brake light had come on, and had lost brake power. Mechanic said that brake fluid had been contaminated. Please provide more information.
