My 2011 Dodge Durango has trouble starting on the first start. Mechanic said there was a bulletin regarding the issue and informed me that we should try updating the software. That did not work. Durango continues to sputter when it is started. It eventually does start either on its own or after another try. Will attempt another solution at next regularly scheduled service.

The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Durango. While driving 25 mph exiting the freeway, the vehicle started to accelerate and the engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact continued driving and did not coast over to the side of the road. The contact stated that the vehicle shook violently while driving. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to turlock Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (1600 auto mall dr, turlock, CA 95380) where it was diagnosed that the software needed to be upgraded. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. While at a stop sign, the steering wheel seized without warning. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road, restarted the engine, and was able to resume driving. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. A twenty seven point inspection was performed. The contact was informed to drive the vehicle until the engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 70,599.

My car is 16 months old, leased for 3 years. Electrical malfunctions such as camera not working properly, lights not turning off inside the car, software in the car malfunctioning and creating random error messages on the screen, and turn signals burning out within the first year of the life of the car happened very often. Were reported 2-3 times to the same dealership but no record was made for us at the dealership, although mechanics showed us how to manually reset the computer ourselves, so we didn't have to keep coming back in for it. This time the car came to a dead stop a few seconds after making a left turn. Wheels locked up at about 20mph speed. The impact of the stop caused me and my two toddlers to fly forward since the seatbelts did not lock. My 3 year old was in a convertible car seat, she scoot forward a little bit, but my son was in a toddler booster and flew forward down the middle isle all the way to my front seat. All the lights in the car flashed on and off repeatedly. Car was beeping for a good 2-3 minutes straight. None of the buttons worked! doors were locked and would not open, the windows locked and would not react to the buttons. Took me a good few minutes to get the car back to functioning, and I drove it immediately down the street to the dealership where I got this car. After 2 days of the car being there, we were told that they had found nothing, replicated nothing, and that the computer recorded no codes. We contacted Dodge corporate, but were told that nothing will be done for us (besides pay the 2 days of rental car fee while they looked at our car). Dodge told us car was "functioning as designed" although they can not guarantee its safe to drive, they don't see anything wrong with it. Told us that we would have to go through this 2 more times before they can open a claim again. Refused to swap the car out, told us nothing they can do.

2014 Dodge Durango - the main control panel in the car freezes which results in the back up camera does not turn on, not being able to adjust the volume of the system, not being able to adjust the climate controls, and the navigation freezes. This can happen either which the vehicle is stationary or while running. We took the car to the dealer who told us multiple people have complained about this after one of the recall software updates that was issued and they assumed a future software update would fix the issue. It has been at least 3 years and no updates have fixed the problem.

I was driving and noticed smoke coming from what appeared to be the drivers side visor. I recorded the smoke and called my husband (who thought I was nuts). When I would stop, the smoke seemed to stop as well. My toddler and I were able to park and evacuate the vehicle before the fire started. The fire department said it was an electrical fire, started in the wiring near the visor. Damage is shown in the pictures. Nearly $20k to repair it so the insurance company has totaled the vehicle. There is an electrical wiring recall #14v391000 on 7/2/2014 that states; "if the vanity lamp wiring shorts there is an increased risk of fire. " I had this recall addressed in 11/2014. . . So why did this happen?! two weeks prior to my incident I had taken my 2012 Durango in for difficulty starting, tire sensor replacement, and to have software updates completed. Could this have triggered the short? the recall also states: "in affected vehicles, the wiring for the vanity lamp in the sun visor may short circuit, after a service repair is performed. " I have really enjoyed my Durango. . . But this has been a terrible experience!.
Oem cd player has become inoperable due to battery change. This is a known issue with all makes and models of dcc. Even new 2013 and 2014 models. Dcc refuses to do anything about this. Dealers charge big bucks to re-flash control module so that cd player is again recognized by computer. Why should a vehicle have to be re programmed every time a battery goes dead? this is an obvious design flaw in software and the public should not be footing the bill for it.

December 23, 2013 -Monday – we return our new car to Chrysler service because memory for heated seats and steering wheel not saving. Also, key fob not working properly. Informed by service that new module needs to be ordered. Radio needs update for latest software. Appointment made for service 1/8/14. Car was in less then 3 weeks prior with new abs module needed. (December 3, 2013).
The vehicle will not start sometimes. Took vehicle in to dealership, and it did not act the way it did on me. So they updated the software, the very next day the vehicle would not start regularly. It would make a noise like it was not getting enough gas to the stater. Took vehicle the dealership, then was told it was the tipm (totally integrated power module). This item is not covered under warranty. This is currently our only mode of transportation. It is the family vehicle, used also for work. The dealership told us that it would cost at least $1,000 to have it fixed. However, I purchased this vehicle least year in October, this should not be happening on vehicle owned less then a year. Now the part for the vehicle is not available and I have a useless vehicle sitting in my driveway and can't drive or move it. This should be on recall!!!!!! and consumers should be reimbursed for their suffering from Chrysler. I think that it is time that the media beware of the raw deal consumers are getting from Chrysler. When my fiance drove it to work it stalled on her, completely shut down. She could have been seriously injured!!!! [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The past 2 months, my vehicle has been given me problems starting engine- I turn key to start and it just cranks! in October, I brought to Dodge dealership and they told me it needed a "software update"- that didn't do anything. It randomly starts when it wants! then the past week it got really bad- not starting at all! black Friday left to shop early in morning- wouldn't start, so took husband's truck- got back at noon- tried again car started- so me and my little girl went into town- stop at traffic red light- then light turned green- pressed gas to go and nothing happened!!!! my car randomly just turned off at light! as cars honked for me to go I hurried and put car in park and prayed for it to crank- it did- and drove straight to dealership- again they said it was an software update! well its Sunday and my vehicle is at my mom's because it won't start at all! I'm reading a lot of complaints of ticm- that is backordered- I will call dealer tomorrow - I really love my Durango and hope it can be fixed.
Battery light came on. Made an appointment for service. Never made appointment date. A/c went out, airbag light came on, radio stopped, lights flashed, windshield wipers started. Car stalled out while driving 30 mph, lost power steering. No crash, rolled to a safe stopping area. Car was towed to dealer. Dealer said the car needed new battery. New battery was installed but check battery light was still on. After more testing, dealer said alternator needed to be replaced. New alternator was installed, but battery light was still on. Dealer put calls to Chrysler. Chrysler said possible bad new alternator replace with another new alternator suggested. New alternator replaced but same thing still happened, check battery light still on. After more calls to Chrysler, new pcm ( powertrain control module) suggested to be installed. Pcm was replaced as warranty part, no check battery light. Total cost of about $1,000. 00 for out of warranty parts. With in a week car was not starting, would crank but engine would not start or it would start and then stall out, car would finally start after 20 mins. Of trying to start car. This happened several times. Took car back to dealer. Software update was done. Still had starting issues, and running issues. After more calls to Chrysler they now believe the issue is a tipm (totally integrated power module). Tipm is on a national back order with no known release/ expected availability date. Chrysler will warranty the tipm part. Car now sits at the dealer for almost 30 days and no one has any estimate as to a fix date. Now waiting on a case manager to contact about this issue and possible rental car and refund for replaced parts. Sending off paper work for lemon law. Chrysler should issue recall but obviously will not due to lack of inventory in tipm parts.
Electrical system - engine management software update - since update, several functions are not operating as they did when the vehicle was new. Prior to the upgrade interior lights dimmed before shutting off, they no longer do, after the upgrade, the driver memory system that remembered seat and mirror positions, heat/ac settings and radio settings now functions differently . . Also, not sure if this is related but the drivers door, when closed would not turn the interior lights off. The frustration is that there is no longer a mechanical switch to accomplish this so it appears that this process is software controlled. Also within the past two weeks, the engine overheated for no apparent reason. To date, the problem has not recurred.
Just left my home not driving more than 30 mph when the engine light came on and I lost complete power. Was towed to the dealer where I purchased it and they did a "pcm reflash with an instrument panel software update" they also replaced the cluster. Now 2 and half months later, I haved moved out of state and once again just leaving my house not going above 30 mph and the same thing happens again. Engine light comes on and I lose power, I was barely able to turn the wheel enough to get the vehicle on the side of the road. I was able to start the car again within a couple minutes and safely return home (it was dark), however the engine light was still on and it felt as though it would loose power again, like I was driving with the parking brake on. Also on my drive here from California (to indiana) I lost my cruise control. This second incident happend tonight and will have to be towed to Dodge dealer tomorrow.

2005 Dodge Durango engine stalled. 10156266
during a sharp right turn the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer installed a software patch but that did not solve the problem. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where they installed a front power train control module and some secondary unit which was supposed to fix the problem. Three days later the vehicle stalled again while driving in a parking lot.

The contact stated vehicle stalled intermittently. The vehicle was towed twice to a certified dealership. Diagnostic testing was done. However, no codes were captured. The dealer reprogrammed the software twice. This has not solved the problem. The vehicle is in the dealership awaiting additional software updates.
On 6/28/2004, my ac stopped blowing cold air, the airbag light came on and stayed on, and my gear shift would not go into park. I took it to the dealership and they fixed the gear shift. The ac not working is a result of an apparent computer problem that requires a software update. The software update did not fix the problem. I have taken my Durango in for service 4+ times and the ac is still not fixed. It blows hot air at random. You cannot drive with the windows down because of the load noise. It hurts your ears and you have to immediately roll them up, same thing with the moon roof. The airbag light was repaired by replacing a module. The informed me that the computer was not communitcating with the airbag, resulting in the airbag light to come on. Does this mean that the airbag will not deploy on impact if the computer is not recognizing that it has an airbag.
