5 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2006

I was driving and all of a sudden something started bonging and I looked down to notice that the check engine light was light up and then the check oil light came on. I was trying to pull over so that I could get out of traffic but the steering wheel froze up and made it extremely difficult to steer so that I could get out of traffic. Finally, after trying to steer the dead car out of traffic I called aaa and they towed it to the mechanic who has come to the conclusion it is the engine. It has been sitting there ever since due to the amount of money it will cost me to fix. After doing research regarding issues with the Dodge Intrepid I have come to see that I am not the only one having this problem. Dodge has known about this issue and refuses to send out a recall. I find that this could be extremely fatal depending on where a person is.

8 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2005

The problems with my Intrepid started with my check engine light coming on and it had stalled out on me a few times. I had my oil changed and had a diagnostic run and was told I had to bring it to a Dodge dealer if the light came on again. On Friday sept 16th I brought my car to a local dealer. I was told that if I needed to have the cam and crankshaft sensor replaced or the car would most likely leave me on the side of the road. So after paying $400 dollars for my two sensors I drove away happily thinking everything was ok. So, on Monday sept 19, 2005 I retrieved my 99 Dodge Intrepid from the local dealer. On Wednesday sept 21 2005, yes two days later, I was on the side of the road with a dead car. On a busy highway I waited with an active toddler and my "fixed car" for two hours. Now from everything I have been reading, it seems I do not have a unique situation. My car is right over 80,000 mile my extended warranty was up to 79,000 miles. I have 2 years before it is paid off and do not have enough money to fix/replace the engine or have a down payment for another car and two notes.

1999 Dodge intrepeid--2. 7l engine I was driving to work going 70 miles an hour when all of a sudden the car jerked and then the engine light came on and I coasted over to the side of the road. Once over to the side of the road, I tried to restart car and it was completely dead. Upon having my car towed to the dealership I was told the timing chain had broke and they were pretty sure that it had done extensive damage to the engine, which if I wanted to get it fix would cost me well over $5,000. 00. I've also heard they have the worst a/c in the industry in their vehicles which my evaporator condensor went out and I had just paid $1,200. 00 to get fixed.

I did have to pay them $102 just for a diagnostic test plus two tow bills.
