1 Loud Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2007

I would like to file a complaint about the 1999 Dodge Intrepid. The engine blew out at 110000, in perfect condition, I had the oil changed every 300 miles, and had recently just flushed the transmission fluid. I kept it in peak condition. One day while driving to work it made loud noises. I was close to my mechanics shop and just drove it there. As I pulled in I heard a loud pop and the mechanics confirmed that the engine blew out, and how horrible this engine was. Would like to receive some type of reimbursement for this. I heard there was a class action lawsuit, which I would surely like to sign up for, any insight would be helpful.

2 Loud Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2006

While my cousin had borrowed the car, the car stalled and he could not get it started again. The car was towed to a mechanic and the mechanic did say that with the horrendous noise the car was making, that the engine would need to be either rebuilt, or replaced, based on what he called a rod knock. When I had another mechanic look at the car, he proceeded to say the same thing. This is a car that in 7 years of me owing it, I put on less than 70,000 on the car in that time. I have always done oil changes regularly and took good care of the car, to now have it sitting in a driveway, unable to start !.

3 Loud Engine Noise problem

Driving n on 59 s when vehicle made awful noise-pulled over and came to stop-called wrecker and took to dealer from whom car was purchased-engine had blown even though oil change had been done day before and on regular basis-had car less than 2 years-car needs new engine-would cost more than car is worth if I could even find a decent engine-company won't fix even though this is an apparent problem with this car-.

4 Loud Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2005

I was driving my 99 Dodge Intrepid to work and I was making in the left turn lane as the traffic cleared I began to make my left turn. Then all of a sudden, I hear the engine make a terrible sound and the car stopped. I shifted it into neutral and tried to restart to no avail. At that point I had to get out of my car in the middle of the intersection and push it out of the intersection. A couple of guys helped me push it into a 7-11 where I called a tow truck. My mechanic said that the engine needed to be replaced due to sludge. I only purchased this car 3 days prior with the insurance money from when my family was involved in a rollover accident. (we were struck from behind by a an unconscious driver traveling over 100 mph. Causing our aerostar to roll and flip with 5 of us in the car including our 18 month old) I got quotes on a new engine and realized that I am not in the financial situation to fix it. So it's been sitting in my garage until I found an article on aol which led me to this site. The engine manufacturer that I spoke with said that there was a problem with the standard Chrysler motor and that they made the oil return larger to eliminate the sludge problem. I don't understand how a car engine that dies while driving is allowed to go unresolved. I could've been seriously injured sitting in oncoming traffic. I was lucky but since this is a known problem (I didn't know prior to buying the car otherwise I wouldn't have risked my life driving it).

Afterwards, the contact was driving home and the check oil light illuminated again followed by a loud noise from the engine compartment. The engine stalled and would not restart. The vehicle was towed to a different dealer. The service department discovered sludge in the engine. The engine was replaced in March 2003. 8 Loud Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2004

When driving on the the expressway, my car started to make a loud noise so I slowed down to pull over to check it out. While slowing down, the car died on the expressway before I could get off. I finally got the car to start and got off immediately! while trying to find some where to pull into the car continued to make the loud noise and kept dying. I finally could not keep it running so I called to have it towed to my mechanic's. The mechanic said that the engine had gunked up and the engine would need to be replaced. I just purchased this car 2 years ago and still owe $11, 000. Now I have an estimate for $7,500 and no way to pay for this large repair. So, I now have a dead car that I have to continue to make payments on and insure. I have always taken care of my car and I feel that there may be a manufacturer's defect.

9 Loud Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2004

We bought the car when it was two years old with 21,000 miles on it. From the minute we drove it home, the air wouldn't cool in the summer and the heat would go out in the winter. Every time we brought it in to be looked at, the dealer could not identify a problem with it. We've now owned the vehicle since fecurary 2002 and the idle was always a bit rough. We were told that, that was the way the engine was supposed to sound. A few weeks ago the valves started clattering. We changed the oil twice after being told that, that would rectify the issue and it didn't. On 8/7/2004 we were on the road the engine started clattering really loud, we pulled off and had our oil changed professionally this time. After getting back on the road the idle seemed better but the clattering got worse and was followed by an additional noise. Shortly after the engine made a loud noise and seized. The car is a 1999 with 72,000 miles on it and the engine is blown, there is something seriously wrong with this picture!.

When I left the house the car was ok, I drove to my friend house the car started making a real loud noise. I shut the car off. It wouldn't start up again, I had to have it tow to shop where I bought it. I was told the timing chain was out and it would be cheaper to get another engine. Now this is where the fun being. We had a difficult time finding a engine. Once we did and had it put in the car, it didn't work. We brought the engine from t&m auto salvage in canton. They put another engine in the car. I drove the car about 3 months when it starting making a strange noise the warranty had expired. Therefore, we took the car to the Dodge dealership. They had the car a month or two. They told me they steamed clean the engine because it was sludge build up and they had to take the engine apart to replace the timing chain. Now the car still isn't working correctly for whatever reason we can not afford to find out.

12 Loud Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2004

I own a 2000 Dodge Intrepid with a 2. 7 l engine. My uncle was a mechanic and taught me the importance of changing oil on a regular schedule. I always followed his instructions religiously with all the cars I have ever owned. My Intrepid has 75,000 miles and the engine needs to be replaced, at an estimated cost of $7800. The engine failed without any warning, except( "a loud noise under the hood"), one morning while my wife was driving to work. I still owe $3000 and cannot afford to buy another car, and pay the remaining balance at the same time. I am only 1 of many, according to my internet research.

I purchased a 1999 Dodge interpid on April 11, 2003, after having it for 25 days, the transmission went. Was repaired. In the shop for 2 weeks. After having it for 9 days, a loud noise in engine was noticed. It was not drove, but went into the shop again and is currently there. The engine has gone. Repair shop called Chrysler company and they said to replace it. Our extended warranty company wants me to authorize repairs and will decide what percentage they will pay for it. But the policy we have states engine repairs and replacement. , according to their booklet. The cost to replace it, $8,300. 00! that is more than what we paid for the car. This car has been driveable for 25 days before first breakdown with transmission job, undriveable and in the shop for 14 days, out for 9 days and is now in the shop awaiting a new engine. I have read on the internet about other 1999 Dodge interpid owners who are having the same troubles as I am with their cars. Please help this engine is ruinned! needs to be replaces, 2. 7l, v-6. .

16 Loud Engine Noise problem

17 Loud Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2003

Engine blew for "no apparent reason". Warranty will not cover a replacement due to the mysterious appearance of sludge. I had my oil changed regularly and maintained my vehicle properly. I have already replaced the transmission, various sensors and visited the dealer 3 times to correct an oil leak. I was never diagnosed with an engine problem until it finally shut down. While driving approximately 45 mph on the highway, the engine started to make a loud noise and rattled continuously. This was very surprising, considering the vehicle was normally a quiet ride. The shop told me my engine was blown and the warranty company denied my claim. I am still financing this vehicle and do not have the 6,500. 00 to replace this engine. I see numerous complaints on this site and others about the 2. 7 liter engines. There should definitely be a recall.
