Car Stall problems of the 2000 Dodge Intrepid - part 2

While driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The driver tried to restart the vehicle and was not able to do so. The vehicle was towed to a dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed the driver that the engine needed to be replaced. Please provide further details.

While driving 65 mph vehicle stalled. Consumer managed to restart the vehicle. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

While driving 45 mph vehicle stalled. Consumer was unable to restart vehicle, and had it towed to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic determined that the motor needed to be replaced.

While driving 45 mph vehicle stalled, causing the driver to drift to the side of the road. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection.

While driving at an undetermined speed vehicle stalled, causing the driver to drift off the road. Mechanic determined that the engine failed.

While driving at an undetermined speed the oil light appeared on the dashboard and the vehicle stalled. The consumer was able to steer the vehicle to the side of the road where she restarted the vehicle.

While driving 55-60 mph engine dropped to 30 mph. Consumer was able to pull out of the road where the vehicle stalled. Vehicle was towed to the dealer, and mechanic determined engine needed to be replaced.

While turning at 25 mph vehicle stalled. Consumer managed to pull over, and had the vehicle towed, but dealer could not resolve the problem.

While driving 60 mph vehicle stalled. Vehicle was towed to the dealer, and technician indicated that engine needed to be replaced.

While driving 37 mph, the vehicle stall without warning. The driver tried to restart the vehicle and was not able to do so. The vehicle was towed to a body shop for inspection. The mechanic informed the driver that the engine needed to be replaced. Please provide further details.

While driving 60 mph vehicle stalled. Consumer managed to pull over, and had the vehicle towed.

While driving 40 mph, consumer noticed that oil light came on, and then vehicle stalled. Consumer tried to restart vehicle several times,but to no avail.

While driving at 60 mph, the rpms raced up to 4000. Then, the rpms fluctuated between 4000 and 2000 rpms. The vehicle finally stalled and would not restart. The vehicle was towed and after the diagnosis was performed, it was determined the vehicle needed a new engine.

While driving at 65 mph vehicle stalled and would not restart. Vehicle was towed to the dealer, who informed the consumer that there was a build up of sludge in the engine. Dealer blamed the sludge build up on the consumer, and would not repair the vehicle free of charge.

While driving at 70 mph on the highway vehicle stopped working. Vehicle was taken to a repair shop,and the engine was rebuilt. Several months later, vehicle stalled again, and consumer returned the vehicle to the finance company.

I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid 2. 7 liter engine that failed will I was driving it. It has 80000 miles on it but absolutely no sludge. I the oil was changed every 3000-4000 miles and the miles are all freeway miles. My mechanic has stated that the rear piston and rod failed. The piston broke apart and damaged the cylinder, head and valves beyond reasonable repair. I am facing the fact that I need to buy a rebuilt engine for about $4000 and need it installed. I spoke to the Dodge dealer where I leased the vehicle and they told me that there was nothing they could do. I spoke to Chrysler's customer service and they told me it was past the warranty and they could do nothing.

Vehicle's time chain broke and head cams blew out. While driving the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that the timing chain broke and in turn destroyed the engine. The vehicle was equipped with a jasper motor. The consumer is requesting assistance.

Had to replace 2. 7 liter e engine with 54000 miles on vehicle. Had a totally different engine put in the vehicle. The vehicle was stalling and the timing chain broke. After a field adjuster came to the dealership they recommended it be replaced. The engine went out on April 8, 2003.

I purchased a 2000 Dodge Intrepid 2 years ago. In Nov 2001, after 1 year of owning the car, the engine sludged, started knocking, & quit. It has been sitting in a garage for 1 year because I do not have the $5000 to get it replaced, but I am still making payments on it. I changed the oil regularly also, but after speaking with numerous mechanics, they all said the same thing. Dodge engines are terrible, & unless you use high quality synthetic oil, & change the oil consistently every 3000 miles, it will sludge and break down. The dealership I purchased this car from did not inform me of this. I have also read numerous reports regarding the problems with this engine. I cannot believe that Dodge has not recalled this engine. I understand that when you get the engine replaced now, it comes with a kit to be installed to prevent this from happening.

While driving 70 mph , the vehicle stalled. The consumer managed to pull over, and had the vehicle towed. The dealership was notified. The engine has had the following parts replaced: knock sensor (2), crankshaft sensor (1), all main bearings in the crankshaft, all connecting rod bearings and engine complete gasket set. These parts were installed as apart of an engine overhaul. The vehicle had ran for about 20k to 22k miles before it begun to knock again. (currently the vehicle is out of service) the knock occurred on the #6 journal of the crankshaft. Mechanics suggested that something in the engine was out of alignment.

At low speeds vehicle will stall. Consumer feels this is unsafe because theres a chance of vehicle being rear ended. Driver contacted dealer, and dealer replaced crank sensor. Please provide any further information.

The dealer has installed two rebuilt engines in the vehicle within the last year. The dealer could not determine why the engines continue to malfunction. Please provide any additional information.
