Failure Date: 09/03/2006

While driving my vehicle I heard an unusual sound coming from under the hood when I raised the hood I couldn't see anything visibly wrong. I contacted my mechanic who told me the upper end of the engine is not receiving enough oil and he called it "oil starvation to the upper end of the motor" he also noticed that the car has a blue smoke coming from the exhaust. He told me that the engine is going to lock up if I continue to drive the vehicle. He also stated that the cost to replace the engine would be between $6000. 00 and $6800. 00. I currently owe $6000. 00 on the vehicle and also the retail amount on the vehicle is below the amount to repair. My 2000 Dodge Intrepid only has 63233 miles. I have maintained proper maintenance on the vehicle. We have been changing the oil very 60 days or 3000 miles which ever comes first. I drive 70 miles per day to and from work and with the vehicle sitting in the garage and not being able to use it is making things very difficult not only for me and my husband but it causing problems with my employer.

4 Engine Exhaust System problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2004

I own a 2000 Dodge Intrepid. I started having problems with the engine stalling. Plus white smoke would come out of the exhaust. I took it to the dealer and they stated it was a fuel sensor. They replaced the sensor, however the problem continued. In fact, it got worst. I took the car to a different Dodge dealership and they advised me that the engine was bad due to sludge build up due to the oil not being changed. I found this very hard to believe. I changed the oil and filter every 3000 miles. The guy at the dealership wanted me to provide receipts of the oil changes. I advised him I did the oil changes myself. I do not keep receipts for oil and oil filters. Even though the car was still under an extended warranty, the dealership refused to fix the engine. They advised the repair would cost over $7000. 00. Daimler Chrysler should recall this engine.

6 Engine Exhaust System problem

While driving down the highway, the consumer's husband heard a clicking noise and then the vehicle cut off and would not restart. The consumer's husband had the vehicle towed to the mechanic, who determined that the engine failed. The consumer had to purchase a new engine for the vehicle. The mechanic suggested that the problem was with engine sludge build up due to the exhaust going through the engine because the catalytic converter was under the engine instead of under the vehicle.
