- the contact stated that on 02/05/07 the 2000 Dodge Intrepid had engine failure. While driving at 20 mph and pulling into a parking lot the vehicle lost power and smoked started coming from under the hood. There were no warning indicator lights, the engine did not have any perceptible failures. The contact had the vehicle towed to a Dodge dealership, and the service mechanic informed the contact that there was oil leaking all over, but he couldn't find the source of the leak. Then, they called and informed him that the head gasket needed to be replaced. The contact stated that after the repair was completed he was informed by the service mechanic that the cause of the engine freezing up was due to a sludge buildup.
I bought a new 2000 Dodge Intrepid for 22k, nice car but pc of crap engine. I was aware of the 2. 7l piece of crap engine one before my engine died. . I check/change the oil regularly around 2800-3000 miles. . . Dodge denies consumers do this though. . For the last year or so, every 1500 miles I was always down a quart of oil. . . ? no leaks, can't see any smoke. . My engine sensor light came on. Within the next few days my car was acting like I had no oil in it. . No power with engine. I was on the highway right next to a Dodge dealer which was convenient. They had diagnosed that my crank and cam sensor were "no good". . And replaced them for $400. . A month later I was coming home from work and my oil light came on. . . ? I pulled over into a parking lot to check the oil. . I was only down maybe a pint. The next morning I checked/added the oil and went to work. I never made it to work. About 1/4 mile from work the engine sounded like I was out of oil?? I brought to the repair shop near work. They said it was internal and would touch it after draining some oil and saw metal flakes. . . I spoke with my mechanic and he told me all about the lovely 2. 7 engines. . I went on the internet and have read horror stories about this engine, as well as Dodge dealers would do nothing for the consumer. I've been telling everyone I see with a Dodge 2. 7 to get rid of it fast. And never to buy a "Dodge/chrsyler" product until they recall and replace this engine. .
While driving on the freeway at approximately 70 mph, the engine seized without warning. Owner had the vehicle towed to a mechanic and was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. Updated 1/19/2006 - the oil light illuminated on the dash then the engine seized. The vehicle was sent to the salvage yard. The weather strips at the doors were leaking.
