The engine on my 2000 Dodge Intrepid just died on the highway.
I purchased a new 2000 Dodge Intrepid ES in June 2000. I had my car maintenance occasionally including oil changes, breaks, tires, etc. On may 7, 2006 my car broke down and it was reported by a mechanic that my time chaining and engine is no longer working. My car only had 47, 689 miles and I finished payments in June 2004. It is totally unfair for a car of six (6) years to break down for engine problem.
Purchased a 2000 Dodge Intrepid 2. 7l engine from a local dealer less than 8 months ago. We provided regular maintenance and performance checks on this vehicle. Without warning, while driving down a busy road (45 mph) the engine started making a tremendous clattering, and lost a great deal of power. I nearly missed being rear-ended with my 3-yr old son in the back seat!!!! I still owe $5000 on this car, have been quoted $5000-$6000 to repair it, and must carry full coverage insurance for it to sit in my driveway. When contacting daimler-Chrysler, I am put on hold and no one ever comes back on the line to finish my complaint.
: the contact stated the vehicle would not restart after being parked for a few minutes. It was towed to an independent repair shop. The mechanic determined the engine had failed. There were no prior warnings indicating any engine problems. The vehicle was properly maintained.
I purchased a 2000 doge intredpid with the 2. 7l engine. It was nothing but constant problems and almost got me killed. I was having engine problems and on the way to the shop, the motor locked as I was pulling out on the highway. I was almost hit multiple times before I was able to get it pushed to the side of the road. The motor had 71k don't buy a Chrysler.
I have a defective 2. 7 l engine in my car. I had just pulled into a driveway when it quit. The timing chain guides broke, and there was so much sludge in the engine it looked like the oil had never been changed. I have always had my oil changed every 3000 miles. I had the engine steamed 7 months prior to this incident for sludge buildup. I also spent around 2000. 00 having every single sensor replaced, as well as all of the hoses in the engine and transmission. I had to have the steering line fixed less than 2 months after I purchased the vehicle. I had no idea that there were so many people with the same engine problems as I have had out of this car. I have lost my job, and my children have missed so many doctor and dentist appointments that I have lost count I still owe 2 years on this car, but how do you pay for something that has turned out to be America's biggest death trap when you can't keep it running?.
: the contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle the engine would not start. The vehicle was towed to the dealership for inspection. Upon inspection, the dealership determined the engine needed to be replaced however, no repairs have been made. The manufacturer was notified. Updated 03/09/06.
: the contact stated upon starting the vehicle the engine knocked. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was determined engine sludge was the cause of the problem and the engine needs replaced, however no repairs have been made.
2000 Intrepid w/54k miles blew (2) holes in the timing chain covers while driving on highway route 422 in ohio at 11 pm 2/5/06. Towed car in for repairs and sludge build up was under the valve covers. Purchased car from halper Chrysler dealership on 2/17/05. We only added 13k miles on it in 12 months. We did regular oil changes but it still built up sludge in the motor. Our 19 year old son was driving our car back to college when it blew. We are glad he is safe and he is a strong enough young man to hold the wheel when this happened. The add on warranty we purchased will not cover this repair since it appears the oil was not changed regularly so we now have a $7k in repairs to make or a $7k driveway ornament until it's paid off.
2000 Dodge Intrepid 2. 7 liter motor with 70,000 miles on it. No sign that the engine was going to fail. Car was running fine. All of a sudden the motor was knocking. Took to dealer, they said there was sludge build up due to poor maintenance(they didn't even ask how often I changed the oil). Dealer said it would cost thousands of $ to fix. I still owed $7,000 on a car that would cost that much to fix. So now I still pay for that junk car and drive a $2,000 beater until I can finish paying the Dodge off.
My 2000 Dodge Intrepid with 2. 7l engine just turned 80,000 miles on the odometer then wouldn't start one day after work. Had it looked at by 2 mechanics whom both told me the timing chain and rocker arm was completely shot and car basically would need a new engine because of sludge build up. They also stated that this is extremely common for this car. Approximately cost of new engine is $5000, more than trade-in value so decided to buy another more reliable car. My Intrepid still is sitting unrepaired in my driveway, however I'm still making payments on it. I'll never buy a Dodge/Chrysler vehicle again!!!.
I am a 35 year old woman who was traveling with my mentally challenged and autistic daughter from ohio to missouri. While nearing indianapolis, in. My 2000 Dodge Intrepid it started "ticking" very loudly and then would not go over 40 mph. I pulled off on the median where my car just died as I was trying to slow down to stop. This was the most terrifying, inconvenient and costly experience. My autistic daughter was screaming while we waited for help. I spent my entire vacation calling the Dodge dealer where my car was towed, my extended warranty company and rental car places. I first spoke with the Dodge dealer who informed me that my engine was "blown" and it would cost me $8800. 00. They informed me that my engine was full of "sludge". I then called my extended warranty place to make sure they were going to cover the damages. I was then informed that I needed to prove to them that I had my oil changed every 3,000 miles. I then spent the remainder of that day calling the three different places back in my hometown that I took my car trying to get proof faxed that I did get my oil changed every 3,000 miles. Once this was accomplished I was informed that my warranty would not cover the $8800. 00 but would only pay the nada value of the car which was $2650. 00. I then spent the next few days calling around trying to find someone who would rebuild my engine for $2650. 00. That I found was impossible. I called around to junk yards to see if they would buy the car. After several calls, the most I was offered was $150. 00. I was informed by one junk yard employee that my car was not worth anything because "the engine is the only thing worth getting from those cars" and that he had 12 other Intrepid's sitting in his yard with the same problems I had. I was so stressed out over my car situation that I cut my vacation short. This entire situation was the biggest nightmare with my autistic daughter and has not only stressed me out but left me with no car.
Engine dead. Car acted like it was going to cut out, got loud then died. The loss created being without a car for some time over three months without a reliable vehicle. The car was towed to a garage as of yesterday 3/28/06, I was going to have them do work on it. When I was told to contact NHTSA, I had asked them to wait.
The contact had the oil changed, and less than a week later she heard a knocking in the engine. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop, and the mechanic determined that the oil change caused sludge from the oil pan to get into the engine. This caused the engine to blow out. The vehicle needed a new engine. No repairs have been made due to the expense.
I purchased my 2000 Dodge Intrepid in late 2005, had it two months and the car quit while driving on interstate highway. I immediately had it towed to a mechanic, they had it from before christmas until this month(June). They were rebuilding the engine, couldn't get it to stay in time, etc. We have now had to tow it to another mechanic and he looked at it and said he couldn't fix it. I have made seven payments without being able to drive it. I am disabled and it is a hassle when I need to go to the doctor and I have to see if I can get a ride.
I have had a problem with sludge build up in the oil since I bought the car. I have had the engine flushed, had regular oil changes with premium oil and maintenance with no avail. On December 15, 2005 my engine locked up on me while driving almost causing me to have an accident. Now I must pay $5000 for a rebuilt motor on a car that only had 111,000 miles on it.
I own a 2000 Dodge Intrepid 2. 7 engine that has failed at 76,000 miles after searching the internet, I have noticed there are a lot of 2. 7 engine owners that have failed as well. Please help and lets stop Chrysler from ripping the general public off by selling an engine that is not reliable. Thanks for any help, even the Chrysler dealership tells me that the 2. 7 engine is junk and was junk when it was new.
I was driving on the freeway at a speed of 60 mph when the engine on my Dodge Intrepid 2000 2. 7l failed. I had to stop on the freeway with heavy traffic, a dangeruos situation because there was not much space to stay on the side of road. My life was at risk staying on the freeway and waiting for towing.
I do not have the date of my very first incident. I was sitting at a stop light and the engine cut off. It started up with no problem so I continued my errands. At my next stop, when I came out to leave, the car would not start. I had to call for roadside assistance thru my insurance company. The person was able to start my car. On the night of October 29th at about 9 pm my daughter and I were both in the car when all of a sudden the rpm guage went to zero and the engine quit right in the middle of the road. The power stearing went out but I was able to get us to the side of the road before being hit by another car. I tried at least eight times to start the car without success. So we sat there hoping we would not be side swiped by the cars coming up behind us. I tried to start the car one more time before I called for roadside assistance and the car started. We went down the road and turned around to head back home. About a mile from our home the engine died again. I just thank god that again I was able to get us over to the side of the road without being hit by another car. This time the engine started on the third or fouth try and we were able to make it home without incident. The car has been parked every since. I plan to take it into the local dealer for service on 11/04/05 and was doing research online about the problem I was having with the car and discovered a website that described my incident exactly. Now I know it is an engine problem.
The contact stated that vehicle was making a ratcheting sound. There were no warning lights illuminating, indicating that there was a problem with the vehicle. Upon inspection, a local mechanic found there was massive sludge build-up in the engine. The mechanic replaced the timing chain, timing chain cover, and the oil pan. The engine may have to be replaced, but at this time they were going to try to repair the vehicle. There has been routine maintenance performed on the vehicle. Updated 1/11/2006. The replacement parts did not resolve the problem and the engine had to be replaced.
2000 Dodge Intrepid low oil warning light on even after engine flushing and numerous oil changes.
Engine seized.
Car engine locked up while driving my car, at 55 mph. I was very lucky that I had no traffic behind me. I came to a complete stop at the side of the road and had my car towed to a local garage. And I was told that the engine of my Intrepid is dead. The problem is sludge build up in the engine. I just replaced this engine 1 year ago and only use synthetic oil. This engine only has 30k miles on it.
I had a beautiful black 4 door Intrepid that I maintained very well and at the bank it started to knock and by the time I got 2 miles to my repair shop it was done. I had the guys tear it apart and fix the problem to the tune of almost a $1,000. 00. It was my only car and I just bought it so I had no choice but being a single mother of 3 kids it put a major dent in my pocket. At the repair shop they suggested I get rid of it considering they could not guarantee how long it was going to last but couldn't afford to do that at the time. 4 months later it was back in the repair shop they fixed it again and bought me a for sale sign. Needless to say less then a month later it seized up, the people at the repair shop made me leave it there and took me home. They put it up for sale at their lot but in the end I couldn't make payments on something I couldn't drive and gave it back to the bank they are still trying to sell it at the auction. Loved my car but it ruined my credit with all the extra repair bills I had to make on it, wish it could have been fixed the first time.
Traveling at 70 mph when a light tapping followed by an immediate loss of power and steering causing an emergency pull off from the passing lane of the highway. Several attempts at a restart resulted in a sound like bolts in a coffee can. Engine oil filler tube showing severe sludge deposit. This car has been well maintained.
First the oil light flashed. Then the light became a constant. I was heading back home when at a stop light the car died without a sound. It kept shutting off at the lights. I never made it home. I made it to a parking lot, this became all to familiar to me, ( I had engine problems before with this car due to sludge, but it was determined that I had kept up with my maintenance after a long investigation and was fixed) I knew I needed to get a tow truck. The car was towed to south chicago Dodge in chicago,IL. After their initial inspection, the cost was already at $2417, it would cost me $360 definite labor just to continue the inspection to determine additional problems (this cost was just to take the part apart, I would have to pay $360 again to have it put back together. I am a single mother and I do not have that kind of money. A long story, short I am now stuck with a car that I have three more payments on and is inoperable. I was advised that I could get a used engine, but that only came with a 12 month warranty, or I could get a re-manufactured engine w/3 year warranty. However, they both cost too much. I have read that Chrysler is not aware of the problem with the engine, this is a big cover-up. They know, or they are just not interested in a good customer product. I know about iso standards and the big 3 automobile regulators, my question is how did this engine meet regulations? what auditor let something like a engine with faulty valves get produced over and over again. I bought my car in good faith and the same was not delivered. Yet Chrysler can continue to produce expensive commercials with mr. Iocola and snoop dogg etc. This problem needs to be attended to. Americans who buy american made products, should receive a product they can trust. I have to borrow cars or take public transportation. If they do not want to recall the engine then they need to provide a lifetime vehicle warranty on the engine so we can at least get it fixed.
2000 Dodge Intrepid engine needs to be replaced. ** answer required***.
Dt: there was a persistent noise coming from the vehicle. The consumer thought it was the engine. The consumer had not even travelled a mile when this happened and was going 45 mph. The consumer pulled over to a garage when the noise began and took the keys out of the ignition. The mechanic at the garage thought it was the engine or the timing chain.
We own a 2000 Dodge Intrepid. The engine seized, without any failure warnings or indications late at night (11:30 pm). I understand this is a common problem with the 2. 7l engine manufactured by Chrysler.
The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Intrepid. After running the car for just under 5 years with less than 78,000 miles the engine broke down without warning. After taking it to the dealership the service technician indicated the engine was filled with sludge, and repairs would cost $7000. The car was adequately maintained according to manufacturer's recommendations. Chrysler refused to help with the cost of the engine. Individuals spoken with at national center, and dealership was surprised that the Chrysler manufacturer would not cover cost of engine.
Dodge 2. 7l engine failed. About two weeks after the vehicle was purchased from a private owner the rods in the engine began knocking. The vehicle is a 2000 dod Intrepid.
Motor sludge,timing chain,motor locked up after $1500. 00.
Contact stated there was a small amount of sludge in the oil system, causing the timing chain to break, causing the valves to collapse.
I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid with a 2. 7l v6 engine. The vehicle was properly maintained and only has 44,000 miles on it and never traveled farther than 300 miles on any trip. I stopped the vehicle at a local store and when I returned it would not start. The vehicle was towed to a local garage who would not work on it because they expected it to be the timing chain which they said was a common occurance with this model due to a design deficiency. The car was towed to the dealer who confirmed that the timing chain broke and the engine was full of sludge and would have to be replace. This is unbelievable for a car with only 44000 miles. I have researched the nhts site and have found hundreds of similar reports for the same engine. My lawyer has recommended we begin a class action suit.
Engine power loss due to severe lower end rod knock.
