1 Water Pump problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2009

The contact owns a 2000 Dodge Intrepid. While driving less than 50 mph, the motor failed. One week prior to the incident, repairs were made to the vehicle, including the water pump. The VIN was unknown. The current and failure mileages were less than 135,000.

2 Water Pump problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2009

My water pump blew unexpectedly while driving to the gas station without any previous problems or indications of a problem whatsoever. I thankfully was turning into a gas station when my car suddenly stalled and was able to continue rolling in the parking lot and just made it before an oncoming car almost hit me. I took the car to a local repair where it cost 834$ just to repair because of the extensive work involved in replacing a waterpump on that 2. 7l v6 pos Dodge Intrepid. The following week while driving to class, I parked and the car engine started revving up by itself once again with no prior indication of a possible problem. I called the repair shop and he said bring it in I barely made it to the repair shop and once again as soon as I turned in the parking lot my car stalled and wouldn't turn over afterwards. By that time the check engine light had come on they said it was a generic camsensor/crankshaft error they cleared out the error code ran the car for over four hours leaving it idle, driving it, and letting it sit and cool down and doing it all over again the car never did it again so they assumed the it was just a gliche in computer and nothing was wrong. Approximately a week later I was driving home from my friends house where my car started jerking when going into different gears. I tried as hard as I could to get it to the repair shop to avoid any further towing fees which have cost me up to about 200$ already. I was stopped by a stop light of a busy intersection that was about 3 blocks away from the repair shop&it was pouring down rain I turned on my hazard lights&my dome lights to help other cars see me so they didn't hit me. I almost got hit several times finally got help pushing off the road and waited for a tow truck for over an hour started the car and it ran so I took the chance with my father there behind me&made it to the repair shop. It was the cam sensor which was another 100$. This past week I went to start my car it wouldn't.

3 Water Pump problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2006

I picked up the car after purchasing it and never made it home. The car stopped on the highway. I had just pulled off because I heard a sound and the car became sluggish. I tried to start the car up to no avail. I had it towed to a local repair shop, which stated that the water pump failed and flooded the engine. As a result, I was without a car for awhile. The car has been sitting because I could not afford to make the repairs at this time. I was unsure what to do until a new coworker mentioned that she had the same problem and was able to give the appropriate steps to take. The car will be sitting until I can save the money to fix it.

4 Water Pump problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2006

Engine of well maintained Dodge Intrepid 2. 7l seized during rush hour on busy road. Wife panicked but was able (luckily) to swing in a parking lot. There was heavy traffic behind her (trucks). Mechanic: checked engine: no sludge was present, no signs of sludge (remarkable!) timing chain broke down and water pump is about to break down (in that case engine would be a total loss). This is the 3rd Intrepid 2. 7l that week with exact same problems around same mileage! since there was no sludge the problems seem not only to be sludge related. Oil change interval: every 3000 miles (proof) w. Synthetic oil. No sludge means that previous owner also mainted the car well! I'll have the mechanic state in his report that no sludge was found for future reference. Warranty company kicked in eventually since they could not use the 'sludge' argument against me.

5 Water Pump problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2006

On February 14, 2006 my husband was coming home when the car quit. He let it cool off and then proceeded to drive home. The next day he was going to work and when he pulled into his employers parking lot he noticed his car was on fire. He put it out right away. We called a tow truck to have it towed to the Dodge dealership. We were informed that the water pump went out and needed to be replaced. They also replaced the timing chain and other parts. In may we were going to a graduation in wyoming when our car broke down on interstate. Again we had to have it towed to a dealership where we were informed we needed a new engine at the cost of $6000. 00. We do not have that kind of money to fix the car. We are now renting a car until we can decide what to do with the car. We would like to get information on what Dodge is doing to help other customers who have had this same problem.

6 Water Pump problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2005

The vehicle was being driven when all of sudden the water pump bearings shot into the oil pan causing the engine not to operate. Owner will notify manufacturer.

7 Water Pump problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2003

Without any prior warning car would not start after stopping to get gas. Car was towed to dealer where it was discovered that the timing chain had shattered sending slivers of metal throughout the engine causing compression problem, damaging pistons, and causing water pump to seize up. Needless to say I'm now looking to buy engine for a car that I've had for under 24months and still have 36+months to go on my note with the engine only having 65k. Note the driver side seat back did break and I've had to have speed sensor replace all of this within the last 17 months.
