While my 2003 Escape was in motion, the vehicle jerked and kicked ad I pressed accelerating on a heavy city highway. The vehicle couldn't drive or move forward. I believe it is the transmission went out. The gears were slipping or not going in position. I was using more gas, having a recall on transmission was announced on 2003 Ford Escape. Recall id 234608 on powertrain automatic transmission. And recall id 234607 automatic transmission: gear position indication. Recall id 234607 I called the Ford service center. I was told no recalls under my VIN number. I asked for assistance to fix my transmission. No was answer. I took my car back to place I purchased it carter's radiator, purchased 5-8-2020. Carter radiator did diagnose, found it was the transmission. I was told car will not go into gears. 4th gear is in-operative. Ony 1st & 2nd gears operating. To repair faulty transmission will cost $3900, but because I purchased vehicle from them, repair cost is $2400.
The transmission will perform a "hard" shift in and out of gears (mainly between third and fifth gear) randomly. The prnd indicators on the instrument cluster will flash sporadically when this occurs. There have been several instances when the car has slipped into neutral (especially on the highway at high speeds) when this occurs. I have also had an issue when the car is placed in reverse. It will slip in and out of gear and the back up camera will flash. I have taken it to several dealers and mechanics, and no one has been able to diagnose the issue. I am being told that no diagnosis codes appear in the on board computer. I am left driving an unsafe, unreliable car without any hope of a fix.

Park to reverse: vehicle transmission self engaged from park to reverse. Mechanical defect, as a result, the shift control lever could disengage from the transmission without warning. On wed. 12/20/17 at 3:10 p. M. I was leaving work I entered my 2013 Ford Escape & started the vehicle with foot on brake. Noticed my front and back windows were covered with snow. Engaged the windshield wiper on front window, & realized that the snow was actually frozen ice that needed to be scraped. Vehicle was in park position, let up on the brake and there was no movement of the vehicle. Scraper in hand, got out of the vehicle to scrape the front windshield. When exiting the vehicle, the vehicle was still in park position/motionless. The vehicle was motionless from the time I exited the vehicle to the time I moved to side of car on driver side, to scrape the front windshield with scraper. I started to scrape my front windshield. After 3-4 scrapes on the front windshield, I noticed that the vehicle starting to move in the reverse direction which was away from where I was standing. I tried to open the door & get into vehicle to apply the brake, however, the door momentum knocked me to the ground & I was dragged by the door of the vehicle as the vehicle was moving in the reverse direction. I was looking at the front wheel as I was being dragged until the car turned enough to release me from the driver side door. The vehicle stopped when its back bumper hit the vehicle front bumper behind it. The was idling, and the vehicle was motionless when I got to it, it did not appear to be driving in reverse but was stationary idling as if it was in park position again. Ford case # cas-1377-1943, similiar to recall # 15s28 power train:automatic transmission:gear position indication (prndl) 2001-2009.
First time (while driving)instrument cluster needles jumped, display read p transmission not in park. Cycle repeated a couple of times then cluster light turned off and needles went to off position. Display only read prnd and mileage. Car taken to dealer on11-7-13. Cluster replaced by dealer. Picked car up from dealer 11-15-13. Repair worked about four days and same cluster problems returned and became worse. Multiple times cluster would not come on when starting, multiple times (while driving) car beeps and all warning lights turn on display reads service engine & p transmission not in park, cluster goes out while driving, multiple times. Today, cluster won't turn on, cluster display is completely black, heater does not get hot, cannot change vent from defrost to dash, radio won't turn on automatically, display above radio- time is wrong & no temperature reading, rear view camera not working. Car taken to dealer today.
My 2006 Ford Escape sporadically will not release from "park". Jeff jenkins, service rep, told me the vehicle could not be diagnosed unless it was inoperative at time of inspection.

Consumer is unable to use radio because transmission pawl is in the way and is too far, causing consumer to shift gear while driving.
The shift lever when placed in the "d" drive position does not lock in place. Additionally the shift level extends 3-4" into the radio and control panel for other instruments like rear defogger and parking light swithch. If shifter is bumped while trying to change radio or to play a cd or cassette, the shifter easily gets knocked out of position. I have repoted this to my dealer, they checked other Escapes on the lot. They all have the same problem. I emailed Ford directly about this problem, and they have not as yet responded. I belive that this problem can cause a serious problem if not fixed.
Gear shifter will not go down all the way. When moving hand, gears will change while driving. The gear shifter handle gets stuck half-way down when changing gears due to design flaw.
