1 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 03/20/2021

On 3/20/21 when driving my 2014 Ford Escape my husband and I noticed a humming noise. Then it seemed as if the car wasn't shifting and was idling real high. Then there was nothing, no power of speed or shifting. No check engine light, just a red light came on saying transmission fault service now. We had to have the vehicle towed to our nearest Ford dealer. To find out this is not a recall and it was a catastrophic transmission failure. He said it will cost us $5100 for them to get a new transmission which are back ordered. I also called Ford directly about this and they said it is not an open recall, and the car is out of warranty by 3 months!! I find this terrible I have had this vehicle for 5 years and taken good care of it and for Ford to not take care of its customers on something like this I feel is horrific!!.

2 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 11/09/2020

Winding noise coming from transmission during driving and while in park, when the transmission hits running temp it starts to lunge and brake randomly without hitting the brake, shift points are not lining up with the correct engine rpm which creates sudden shifting or late shifting. After all of this happened then the transmission fault service now message popped up on the dash. Vehicle was driven on city streets under normal stop and go conditions. 81,639 miles on the odometer currently.

3 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2016 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 10/10/2020

My vehicle started making a faint whistling / winding sound when being driven. Then my car would not drive any more while it was in the drive position . The rpm needle kept jumping as if it was being driven. I was pulling into my driveway when all of a sudden my car would not go. I stopped , stuck in the middle of the driveway. I turned the car off, waited for a min or 2 then turned the car back on, after that the car finally shift into gear, and I was able to park my car. The light finally came on saying tranmissions failure service now or something to that affect. So I took the car to Ford seeing how I was still under factory warranty, finally after a month , got my car back. They didn't replace the transmission just parts of it from what I was told -mans a hose for my heater. Now a few weeks later, my car is making the same noise.

4 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2019 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 05/07/2020

Only had this car less than 30 days mileage was 29,476 on 4/13/20. Mileage when in shop is 29,944 so drove 468 miles. Been hearing loud thuds or clunking noise from rear of vehicle for a few days. Took it back to where I bought it they looked at and duplicated the noise several times in their shop, said it was most likely something in the transmission. Took the car to Ford and at first the service writer was in denial but the techs made him a believer. . . . The transmision has problem with the valve body they think. They took the transmission out today hopefully know something Monday. The noise occurred when backing up with the steering wheel turned and giving the car a little gas. A very loud clunk was heard . The noise continued and started doing it every time I backed up. Also heard noise/felt it when shifting from r to n to d. This problem started just before I took it in the the shop (morning of ) just sitting still shift from park to reverse to neutral to drive or back to neutral.

5 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 10/13/2019

My family and I (wife and newborn) were driving on the highway and I noticed a lack of power when trying to accelerate. Suddenly the Ford Escape began shifting up and down rapidly. The rpms would increase when trying to accelerate, and the engine was working, but there was a total loss of power and slight grinding noise. It felt as if the vehicle shifted into neutral. We coasted to the shoulder and waited for a tow truck. The shop that received the Ford Escape found internal transmission failure and quoted us for a replacement. The price for the replacement is over half of what the vehicle is worth! (according to kbb).

9 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 07/24/2018

The vehicle is a 2013 with less than 48k miles on it. The problem started with rolling backwards when starting from a stop on a hill and with a hesitation then a slight jerk when starting from a stop. That happened off and on one day then cleared up for about a month. When it started again it would also have sluggish acceleration like it had a shifted into a gear that was too high, or would wind up like it had shifted into neutral. Again, it was intermittent like it was a loose wire or bad circuit. Then it started intermittently making a kind of a grinding noise and shortly after there was a loud noise and the transmission was toast.

10 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2015 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 07/05/2018

I was driving my 2015 Ford Escape se with 95,000 miles down the highway going 55mph when I heard a faint whistling noise. I didn't think anything of it at first because it was so faint, but then I realized I was pushing the gas and the rpms would shoot up very high but the car did not accelerate. I immediately started pulling off the road rapidly slowing down. I got off and I kept pushing the gas trying to get myself off until I was almost completely stopped. At one last attempt to get myself to a safe spot to be stopped I pressed the gas the car lunched forward and made a very loud clunking noise. At this point I didn't think the car would go again so I called a tow truck. After everything cooled down it drove fine for the tow truck driver but I didn't feel safe driving the vehicle. It was towed to the service center of the dealership where I bought the car. The man there explained to me the reason it stopped accelerating is because of a saftey feature called limp mode where your car shifts into a lower gear to avoid further damage. After a few days they told me I needed two new sensors that detect when the transmission is over heating. I paid $350 for that and went on my way. Not even 20 blocks away from the service center the car started making the exact same noise and broke down in the middle of a busy street. We had it towed back the service center. They had it brought to Ford and Ford said that it needed a new transmission. I don't think a car with not even 100,000 miles on it should need a new transmission. I really hope Ford can do something for me. I am a young female and I don't feel safe driving this car that has now left me stranded more than once.

11 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/20/2018

Purchased vehicle on 2/17/2018 with 73,600 miles on the vehicle on 2/20/2018 drove vehicle for approximately 6 hours (pittsburgh to cleveland and back) near the end of the return trip, the transmission started to randomly downshift and up shift on relatively level ground while cruise control was on at about 67 mph. Within a minute of this behavior, the information display indicated a transmission fault: service immediately. I pulled over and turned the car off and on again. The fault cleared. Called dealer and stated my issue. Took car to dealer (smail Honda greensburg, PA) on 2/21. On the trip to the dealer, the fault happened two more times. One of those times I heard a loud clunking noise. While I was applying the brakes. Dealer found a wrong gear ratio fault on the transmission and is replacing the unit with one that has 46000 mile on it. All occurrences of the fault were on the highway above 50mph vehicle had 74400 miles when dealer took possession to repair.

12 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/06/2017

Vehicle was in drive, the engine was making a noise and after applying the brake for a turning car in front of me, I went to apply the gas and it would not accelerate. I put the vehicle in park, while on a state road and then moved the gear shift into drive and got it to a garage about two blocks away from the incident. Shut the vehicle off and one of their mechanics took it for a drive, came back and said nothing was wrong. So I got in the car and about 3 to 4 miles up the road, it started acting up again. I took it to the dealership that I purchased it from and after replacing a water pump, coolant level sensor and axle seal, they told me it was fixed, so I went to pick it up. After I paid $822. 08 for the bill, I drove the vehicle a block and the incident occurred again, so I drove it back to the dealership and told them that they didn't fix the original problem that I brought it in for. They contacted me that it is something in the transmission, which is very expensive. Now I am left with a year of car payments on a vehicle that isn't drivable. It doesn't appear that Ford or the dealership is going to stand behind a defective product. The vehicle has never been driven off road or abused, actually I have taken it faithfully for all recall repairs and servicing needs.

17 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

I bought this car brand new , within the first 600 miles I took a trip to northern michigan ( about 200 mi. ) and the transmission " banged " into 6th gear every time it down shifted to 5th going up any grade and shifted back to 6th, other times when I go to pull out of somewhere it will act like its looking for a gear before I barely start moving , had it back to Ford a number of times , they say its fine . . . Now has 46000 on it , still does it , have called and sent registered letters to Ford , they say buy extended warranty and work with the dealer (lol ). . They just claim they check it and even ask if I thought about trading it in . . . Ya right. . . . What I would like is for them to fix it. Sometimes when I back out of a parking spot and put it in drive , it then too don't go , looks for a gear for a few seconds (you can hear it making noise) then will take off.

18 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2011 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 06/23/2013

Driving vehicle on 6/23/13 approximately 30 mph and it suddenly lost acceleration and began to jerk forward. "wrench" indicator appeared on dash. Pulled vehicle over and waited; however, problem continued. Vehicle would only move forward at less than 5 mph while jerking as it traveled. Have had constant problems with this vehicle since purchase. A couple months after purchase on 2011, while traveling on an interstate at 70 mph, the vehicle completely lost acceleration, almost causing a serious crash. Vehicle was pulled to side of road and towed to dealership where they had to replace the catalytic converter. Since that time, the transmission has been shifting hard and creating noises; however, the dealership has been unable find a problem. Today, the vehicle "died" again and had to be pulled of the road. Have had vehicle in the service department repeatedly to address issue; however, no fix has been provided. Now, just after the warranty expired (currently 39,104) the vehicle has failed again.

19 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2011 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 06/21/2013

I was on my way to work and when I accelerated to pull a small incline and there was a loud pop, a real hard jerk and I had no gears at all. The wrench indicator came on, I turned my emergency flasher on, shut me engine off. Thanks goodness I was in a construction zone and the speed was reduced or else I could have been seriously injured. I restarted my engine and finally was able to get it in low to be able to make it to the nearest wide spot to get out of the middle of the 4-lane. I immediately took it to a Ford dealer in my area and they kept it 5 days and I was notified on Tuesday, that they couldn't find anything wrong. It is still doing the exact same thing, shifts hard, hesitates to shift, revs up to 5000 - 5500 rpm's but won't do over 20 mph. It jerks and make some terrible noises. Also yesterday while trying to pull a hill near my home, it would not pull it and I had a vehicle traveling behind me and all I could do was pray that he wouldn't hit me. I had to pull of the side of the road, shut my engine off in order to it to take off and pull again. I have two small children and this vehicle is not safe to have them in on the highway, it isn't safe for anyone to be on the highway in. I have did some online research and have found numerous complaints on the same make and model on mine. Ford needs to recall the vehicles and fix them before someone does get seriously hurt or even killed. Any assistance that you can provide in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

22 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/10/2012

There is an acceleration lag on partial throttle. This mainly occurs when starting the vehicle or when accelerating after a turn. When no acceleration is felt, the throttle pedal is depressed further and, after a delay, the vehicle takes off like a rocket. When driving the vehicle using the manual shift mode, it operates without an acceleration delay. The vehicle was brought to the dealership for this problem. They looked at the vehicle and stated it drives like all of the other 1. 6 liter Escape vehicles on their lot. The delay in acceleration has the potential to cause an accident. A side issue is with sync. The clock loses time, it's very slow to respond, it isn't always able to sync phones, understand voice commands, and it's locked up. . . Requiring a master reset. There's also too much road noise transmitted to those on the other end. . . Consequently, it's difficult for them to hear the conversation.

23 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 06/15/2012

Vehicle would not shift and made a noise. This was the first time which involved first and reverse gears. That time the vehicle was covered under the warranty. This time my wife was driving when the car started to make a funny noise. She pulled into a parking lot and called me. When I got there and started the car the noise I heard was very bad coming from under the car. The car was towed to our Ford dealer and was checked. Now we are being told that the transmission and cooler needs replaced at a cost of almost $5000. 00. The car now as 62000+ miles and not under warranty.

24 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2010 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 08/08/2011

2010 Ford Escape XLT. Starting with about 1200 miles the transmission began hard shifts, hesitation between gears, jerking hard into reverse when engaging, high speed shifts jerk into gear sounding like the rear end is falling out. Ford dealer first stated it was normal, after several more complaints they decided to rebuild the transmission. It worked smoothly for about 200 miles then started the same things again, it gets more frequent as the miles mount up. My wife is afraid of the vehicle and will not drive or ride in it. When roads are wet the shifts are hard enough to make the wheels spin. Last time the dealer adjusted the transmission, it now hesitates when putting into gear. I was turning around on a road that I should have had ample time but when I put the car into reverse it delayed so long to engage that traffic was heading toward me. If the car sits 2-3 days, it gives a long hesitation to go into 2nd and 3rd gear. Also, have experienced squealing coming from engine compartment, Ford has change the belt several times and the tensioner, it lasts for a few huhdred miles and starts again. All items I have been told are normal. I have owned more than 20 cars and do not find hard shifts, hesitations, excessive noise and hard clunks to be normal by any stretch of the imagination. I paid $25,000 for this car, I have driven cars that cost half this price that handled better. I have been a loyal Ford owner of f150's, explorers, expeditions and even a couple of old f100's. I had always been very happy with them. The Escape was an attempt to downsize for our 2nd vehicle and have something more economical, we liked them when we rented them but this one has been a very big disappointment and time consuming.

25 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 06/14/2011

I purchased a 2008 Ford Escape limited edition for my son in college, first, there were problems with the tires which sounded like the tires were going to explode. The noise was so loud and took it to my local dealership and they did nothing. I had the vehicle for approximately six months. The second issue pertained to the steering/suspension and that cost me $900. The dealership constantly states, "just keep your receipts. " today, I contacted sheehy Ford in springfield va regarding the new problem which is the throttle. The vehicle lost power and he could not shift the vehicle at all. The customer service representative looked up the VIN number and informed me my vehicle was not covered. I explained to the gentleman that I was on line and found information that Ford has issued an extended warranty for defective throttle body assemblies and sensors for 10 years or 150,000 miles based on an investigation by the national highway safety administration (NHTSA) for a defect investigation of alleged throttle body failures in 2005-2012 Ford Escapes (complaints from nc). I was informed my vehicle was not covered because only specific VIN numbers were included. I am a single parent and I have put too much money in this vehicle. After reading the comments on line, this vehicle appears to have numerous defects. What does it take for our government to take action, lost of lives? is the dollar more important than people lives? we need to start holding these companies accountable. There is clearly issues with this vehicle and I want Ford to pay for my repairs.

On March 30, 2010, all of the gears in the transmission were replaced but the failure recurred. On April 19, 2010, the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it remained for nine days. The dealer stated that the vehicle had to adapt to the contacts style of driving. The dealer stated that they were waiting for a response from the manufacturer who confirmed that they would send a field engineer to inspect the vehicle. The contact no longer wanted the vehicle but the manufacturer refused to accept it. The failure mileage was approximately 5,184. The current mileage was 15,835.

27 Noises During Shifting problem of the 2002 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 12/03/2007

This will be the second time I have to replace the brake pads and rotors, not to mention that from day one my wheels have been covered in black dust from the brakes, and im told this is normal. The major problem has been the transmission. I can not tell you how many times I've taken it in to be looked at and called and complained to Ford with no help at all. Since day one (my car was brand new) the automatic transmission made noises as though it was stuck when it should be smoothly shifting gears. Each time I took it in noone heard anything. . . Until my warrantee was up then things were heard. Lets see I've paid for engine flushes, spark plug changes, fluid checks, reset calibraitons, I've never missed an oil or filter change and it progressively is getting worse. I've read lots of other complaints from Ford owners regarding the same problem. So if we all are having the same issue, why isn't Ford held accountable to fix this???????.
