Failure Date: 03/16/2013

When my Escape is in the running mode, the engine does not sounds like a gas running vehicle, but it runs loud like a truck. When pressing the gas I have to press the gas pedal to the floor before moving at a good speed, the transmission slips into gears.

39 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2011 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/23/2012

Last year I purchased a 2011 Ford Escape and have been completely dissatisfied with my purchase. The selling dealer, tower Ford in great neck, new york has done absolutely nothing to help me rectify my serious complaint and concerns with my vehicle. One of my biggest concerns is that the transmission slips, the accelerator pedal sticks, the brakes are very low, and a swishing liquid noise is heard in the fuel tank when stopping, the right side rear passenger door squeaks, and the center console is loose. I've brought my truck back to this dealer many times and all I receive is that they can not verify my complaint and concerns. I am concerned for my family and my safety. Any help would be appreciated.

41 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2006 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 06/09/2011

Have a 2006 Ford Escape with 80,000 miles. Driving to work one morning and took off from stopped position and heard a noise under vehicle. The over drive off light started flashing. A few miles down the road the transmission started slipping and then went completely out. I have read several other complaints on the same issue and feel that Ford should recall.

42 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2009 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/30/2010

2009 Ford Escape XLT v6 with automatic transmission. While driving the vehicle at highway speeds (50-70 mph) the transmission slips into neutral. This first occurred when the vehicle was 7 months old (Jan 2010) it was taken to the dealership and the transmission was replaced, according to the service department at the dealership, with a brand new transmission. A couple of months later the same problem resurfaced and the vehicle was again taken to the dealership where it stayed for over a week. The service advisor informed us that there was a bad module in the transmission and that once it was replaced the problem would be solved. The vehicle came out of the dealership supposedly "repaired", however, two days later the same exact problem happened with the transmission slipping into neutral when driving on the interstate. We live in washington DC and have to take the washington beltway and interstate 95 every day to get to work and this issue with the transmission is just a serious accident waiting to happen. This vehicle is not safe to operate!.

43 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2006 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/15/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Escape. The contact stated when driving approximately 35 mph, the transmission slipped excessively and then failed to operate. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where they advised that the transmission would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 48,037.

44 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2009 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 03/22/2010

While travelling at highway speed, transmission slips to neutral (or low gear) and rpms shoot up to near 6000. Forward momentum slows dramatically which is quite hazardous on highway. Got to dealership right away and within day they "fixed" it by replacing a seal (diagnosis was low fluid). Expressed concerns for safety and was told it is fixed and it is safe. Next day the exact same thing occurs! in addition to that same problem occuring, also now shifting is occassionally very hard especially when acceleration is harder like merging onto highway or passing another car. Bringing vehicle back in but don't have my hopes up right now.

45 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2010 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 03/19/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated when driving at various speeds, the transmission would slip and sporadically jerk. The contact received notice of NHTSA campaign id number: 10v222000 (power train: automatic transmission) and took the vehicle to the dealer for repairs. The dealer repaired the failure twice however; it did not remedy the failure. In addition, there was a winding noise coming from the vehicle and water was also leaking in the rear of the vehicle. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000 and the current mileage was approximately 7,000. Updated 10/26/10. The consumer stated the gas pedal would stick and then the vehicle would lurch. There was a rattle and noise coming from under the vehicle. Updated 10/26/10.

46 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/04/2010

My 2008 Ford Escape had experienced major transmission slippage due to a faulty transmission oil cooler. There appear to be numerous complaints about faulty transmission oil coolers for 2008 Escapes. I understand that a TSB has been issued by Ford to its service technicians; however, the general public is unaware of the problem that creates a major safety concern. In my case, the cooler developed a leak shortly after 37,800 miles of use. The leak caused the transmission oil to drop below an acceptable level for the transmission to function properly. I noticed the slip when entering onto a highway (us rt 22). The slip caused a major delay in the acceleration of the vehicle and almost resulted in major accident. I had my 2 young children in the vehicle at the time. The transmission oil cooler is currently being replaced. Although the part appears to be an integral part of the transmission it is not covered under the manufacturers 5yr/50,000 mile powertrain warranty. Instead, the part is covered under the vehicles general 3yr/36,000 mile warranty. The cost of my repair was $930. Ford appears to be aware of this common occurrence as evidenced by the TSB but there has yet to be a recall. Although a crash and/or death were not my end result, it easily could have been. Please take the time to investigate and ensure that the problem is resolved. Thank you.

47 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2010 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 12/19/2009

Purchased a 4-cyl, at, 2010 Escape XLT in December 2009, from healey Ford in ansonia CT, which is now closed. Transmission slippage, jerking, growling noise in reverse, sudden acceleration on highway, all started almost immediately with this vehicle. Recall repair on solonoid done, problem persists and is even worse. Several near accidents with my $25,000 suicide ride I call an Escape. . . Ford has had it twice for repair without success. In CT, I have one more try and I will proceed with connecticuts lemon law arbitration, and Ford gets to buy it back.

48 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/10/2009

My 2008 Ford Escape is currently at 16000 miles and I have noticed for about a week that the transmission has been slipping. Then when I put it into reverse, it sounds like it is going to stall but doesn't. However, when then going into drive my car has stalled 4 times. I took it today and that was the second car today brought in for the same problem. They automatically said it would take a couple of days and got me a rental car till Tuesday.

49 Transmission Gear Slipping problem of the 2002 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 06/03/2005

The vehicle was being driven at roughly 35 miles per hour when the tachometer suddenly surged and the vehicle began to loose speed. The transmission had obviously failed to engage. Putting the transmission into 2nd gear allowed the transmission to re-engage and the vehcile began to surge forward. An attempt was made to drive the vehicle to a dealership about 7 or 8 miles away. The transmission continued to to engage and disengage for the next several miles. Finally, it disengaged one last time and did not engage again. Since it was on a main street, the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road of a side street. The vehicle was towed to kreiger Ford in columbus ohio. This took place a Friday. The dealership was informed that a complaint was made about the transmission slipping and then thudding into gear on 1st to 2nd gear shifts on a service call prior to the experation of the warranty. At that time the dealership assured the owner that there was nothing wrong with the transmission. On this incident, not only did the car have to be towed in, but the dealership was also informed that the motor on the rear window wiper had failed and the cd player would no longer eject the cds. On Monday the dealership called to inform the owner that the transmission had totally failed and would have to be replaced at a cost of $3500. Within an hour the dealership called back and said the Ford was willing to put a rebuilt transmission into the vehicle, repair the wiper motor, do the 60,000 mile maintnenace, extend the drivetrain warranty to 100,000 miles, and repair the cd player for $1500. This is preposterous. No transmission should fail at 61,000 miles. And after reading the incidents reported here, it is becoming apparent that there is a problem with the transmission on the Escape.
