3 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 05/09/2020

My girlfriend was driving at about 40 mph and noticed a whining noise that corresponded with the acceleration of the vehicle. When she came to the next stop light and the light turned green the Escape would not accelerate, but the whining was very loud and would only move about 3-4 miles per hour. She pulled over, shut off the engine. Waited and started again. The Escape drove for a few minutes and then she felt it slip out of gear and then the engine would just rev. It slipped back into gear and it started to accelerate as normal but with the constant whining sound. She had to stop again. She called a mechanic who came and listened and attempted to drive it and he said the transmission was shot which was obvious at that time. There were no service messages on the dash, no lights came on the dash to indicate low fluid levels. We have serviced our vehicle regularly following the owners manual recommendations. The transmission information only says to check fluid levels at every oil change and change the transmission fluid at 150,000 miles according to the driving conditions. It has 101,900 miles and we still owe on our loan. We purchased it from a Ford dealer in Feb. 2017. With all of the complaints and issues with the transmissions failing at random Ford needs to issue a recall and fix these lemons!!.

4 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 06/16/2019

When on an incline or at low speeds like coming stop a stop light or sign, I push the gas pedal, the car revs up to 5 and 6 but barely moves. All of a sudden it will take off and jump into gear really harshly. At times it will slip out of gear and go super slow while in traffic. I feel like I may get hit at some point from behind. This happens coming from a stopped position, it happens at slow speeds, it slows down at 35/40mph, it happens while turning corners. I have not experienced it on the highway. It seems once I reach highway speeds it works properly. I have a transmission fault notification on the dashboard.

6 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2014 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 09/30/2018

I was driving about 20 mph after accelerating from a stop and the transmission shifted out of drive. I could hear it clunk and feel the car jerk. I stopped and downshifted but nothing happened. I put it in park, turned off the engine. I restarted it, shifted to drive and slowly accelerated. I got about 20 yards and it slipped out of gear again. It wouldn't shift into any gear except park. This was after driving about 100 miles. I had no issues prior to this. No warning lights came on until all of this happened and as I pulled into my driveway a warning came on saying "transmission fault see service station". It has 124,000 miles on it. I've had it for just under 2 years, bought used, and haven't had any issues with the transmission before now. I researched info online and it looks like this is not an isolated problem, but Ford is not recognizing this as an issue. Transmissions should not just break down for no reason, and if they do, Ford should fix the problem.

7 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2017 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 01/25/2018

Transmission failed and was rebuilt by route 23 automall. Once getting it back the transmission intermittently slips out of gear often times after stopping at an intersection or traffic light or during city driving. No error codes when bring it back to dealer. Car is unsafe as I almost got hit while crossing an intersection because the transmission slipped out of gear. Escalated to the dealership and Ford and they refuse to fix it because it is intermittent and no codes shown on the computer.

8 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2013 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 10/04/2016

Purchased used 07/27/16 and since then, on three occasions while going up small inclines the vehicle acted as though it slipped out of gear and started and the motor started to rev up, as if I had floored the gas peddle. After pulling to the roadside, the engine slowed down to normal rpm's after about 5 seconds, so I put the vehicle in park and back into drive and it seemed to be ok again. On the third incident it did the same thing seemingly slipping out of gear and throttled way up, however this time a display showed engine fault, and when I tried to take off again the vehicle sputtered like it was going to die until I brought it to a stop and turned off the motor. When I restarted the message was gone and the vehicle has been running fine for a couple of days now. I had it tested to see if any diagnostic codes were stored, but it showed none. It took about 30 days for it to act up between the first and second incident, but only a week from the second to the third incident. Ford doesn't seem to have any answers, unless a code shows up in the module, however that has not happened.

9 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2008 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/03/2015

My wife was driving when she went to take off and the car went to around 3500 rpm before shifting out of first gear. We took it that day to the Ford dealer and it was diagnosed with a broken overdrive band and the car is missing 2nd and 4th gear. I have done a google search of this issue and it is a very common one on this car. There are thousands and thousands of complaints out there. It is so common that when I picked it up at the Ford dealer they told me there was no charge for the diagnosis even though I had not had it fixed yet as they knew exactly what the problem was without taking it apart. They said they see it all the time. If my wife had been pulling into traffic when this happened and was expecting it to take off like normal she could have been in a wreck as the car will not take off like normal. She was very lucky. How Ford can get away with not doing a recall when this is such a common issue is beyond belief. I am now looking at a minimum $1300 bill just to fix that part. That is if I don't do a rebuild or new transmission. This is the 6 cylinder version of this vehicle.

14 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2009 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 02/28/2010

2009 Ford Escape transmission is slipping out of gear under acceleration at highway speeds. While pressing on the gas at highway speeds the transmission slips into neutral and the engine revs up to 5,000 to 6,000 rpms with no error lights coming on. Dealer was advised of the problem and stated that it was low on tranny fluid. However, the problem reappeared two days later and is not fixed yet. The potential for an accident at highway speeds is quite possible.

15 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem of the 2009 Ford Escape

Failure Date: 04/29/2009

2009 Ford Escape purchased April 2009. Noticed transmission was slipping out of gear when shifting into reverse to back out of driving. Thought this may have been my error for not stepping on brake pedal completely. March 2010, mileage about 20,000 started having problems with transmission when I accelerate at highway speeds. While pressing on the gas at highway speeds the transmission slips into neutral or starts jerking and will not accelerate and the engine revs up with no error lights coming on. Called dealer to schedule an appointment, soonest they could get me in is March 22, 2010. When I was making the appointment the service representative told me that the problem was probably low on tranny fluid. Checked the tranny fluid when I had my oil changed on March 13, 2010 and it was low, service tech added more transmission fluid but the problem reappeared the same and is getting worse. The potential for an accident at highway speeds is quite possible if you are unable to accelerate when entering the on ramp and a semi truck is in the same lane. I've noticed other complaints addressing the same issue. Definitely there seems to be a problem with the 2009 Ford Escape transmissions. I'll see what the dealer says and if they can fix the problem. More importantly, the service rep told me that there is no recall on this issue but she has been having alot of Escapes coming in for the same problem. Will update this complaint after my vehicle is looked at and diagnosed. I'll also do some research online to see if there is any other information available to me.
