I have had my Escape for about 1yr. And for the past 6 months I have been getting a code p0234 which was read at a local auto zone which reads wastegate solenoid this is happening to me and many many other people around the world the solenoid itself keeps going bad and causing issues such as acceleration problems, losing power and dying down while driving even on an interstate and highways and sometimes it'll do it 2 or 3 times in a row before finally running and getting me where I need to go such as work or my child's school or doctor appointments or to the store. This issue should've been resolved by Ford making it so the wastegate can keep up with the turbocharge in the Ford Escape 1. 6l. Other people used their power train warranties to have it fixed just to have to pay out of pocket for another one. It is a very serious ongoing issue with not just my car but others and the part is $200 each time it needs replaced and it is literally never the hoses it's the solenoid giving too much boost over 4psi which is absolutely ridiculous these cars need recalled the wastegate isn't compatible to keep up with the turbocharge itself in the car and if not fixed then people have to replace the turbo itself or buy a new engine or replace head gaskets and it could cause a serious wreck if someone is driving going 70mph on a highway and then boom your car died all because of a solenoid that doesn't work for the 2013 Ford Escape because Ford doesn't want to deal with the fact these cars are not road material and they are not safe for anyone to drive. They sincerely need recalled andnobody should have to pay for something that should've been dealt with before being sent out to the world. I really hope you consider investigating and getting these cars recalled. It'll save everyone time, effort, and money. I have proof of all the forums I could find too of the same issues I am having.

Wastegate solenoid needs replaced, we have replaced so many parts on this vehicle and had to have the transmission replaced as well. We should not have this many problems with a vehicle that's only 5 years old. We also had to replace the transmission shifter cable after it left our vehicle completely disabled in a town an hour away from our home. We've also replaced the coolant bypass solenoid. These are all known issues and should have been covered by a recall but our vehicle, even though it matches the recall specs exactly, our VIN # was not listed on the shops oasis sheet so we've paid for all of this out of our own pocket. Ford needs to do the right thing and reimburse everyone that has had to deal with these issues and pay out of their own pocket for a known issue that have been recalled on several of their vehicles already. The recalls obviously need to be expanded to reflect the true numbers.

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact purchased the vehicle a month ago. While driving, the vehicle surged and then went into limp mode. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and powered off the engine. The vehicle was restarted and was able to drive normally. The contact also stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to gordie boucher Ford of kenosha (8301 75th st, kenosha, WI 53142, (262) 697-0700) where it was diagnosed that the wastegate actuator failed and needed to be replaced. The technician also stated that the boost control solenoid needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the repair fees and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 210,000.
Car stalling, cutting out, missing a gear and shifting very hard, while driving. This went on for a while before the check engine light came one. Dealership had to replace coolant bypass solenoid, said it was recalled on vehicles like mine but my VIN didn't show a recall even though the engine, year, make, model, build date, build location were all identical to the recall. Vehicle still shifted very hard, like it was missing a gear, advised by dealership to have transmission rebuilt. Spent just under $4,000 to have both repairs done. Had repair completed in August 2019 after dealing with the issues for nearly a year and being told that was just the way the car drove because of the turbo charged engine. No codes ever populated so was told everything was as it should be. Only when the check engine light came on, would they even acknowledge that there was an issue and even then tried to say it was just the solenoid as no codes were coming up for the transmission issue that had been going on for years! I've been told Ford knows about the transmission issue and has the code cleared out with their software so it never shows when taken in for service. Not sure if that's true or not but still frustrating to have so many issues with a car that's not that old.
My 2014 Ford Escape drove fine until my husband drove it to work and was trying to back into a parking spot. The car wouldn't go into reverse. Later that night when he left work the car started shifting rough so had the car towed to prevent more damage. Was told by the dealership that I needed a new transmission at 116,000 miles. So I have been working with Ford to see if they will pay all or at least half. Now 17 months later I have just given up on the run around with the home office for something that should have been a recall for bad parts and just paying for the fix. Either replacement toward planetary disk with solenoid damage. Or new transmission.
Well, my vehicle has been maintained and up kept since day one, and before that my mother. The shifting solenoids are starting to go, which means the tyranny will eventually go. It searches to find gears and has never been beat on. This is quite a nuscense, constantly pulling over and starting it up again just to shift. Never has been low on fluids either. The main problem with the Escapes is the transmission and although mine is not under the recall, as all others are, I feel that I have been outdone by Ford fucking me over. Honestly the worst transmission issue I've seen with any model from Ford, or much less chevy and gmcr or Toyota. My corolla lasted longer than this one, over 200000 in fact! the fact of it is, this one didnt even make it to 200000. Wtf this started out of nowhere, no warning, nothing. Turned the vehicle on one day and it just didnt want to shift. Jw I'm looking at a 4000 dollar bill to fix it while others have had this issue as well. I didnt even pay over 2500 for this thing so for it to be acting this way when it's always been treated w respect is nonsense. I want the recall to be extended to my model as well, seeing how they all are recalled.

I purchased my 2014 Escape eco boost used in mid 2015. It was 1. 5 years old with 74k miles. In December of 2017 the transmission completely stopped shifting with no warning or indication previously. I stopped to get gas one night and took back off and it slipped in second gear and never reengaged. There were no warning lights or code indicators showing on the dash and there was nothing in the way it was driving and shifting previously to make me think there was an issue. It literally just happened all at once. The repair consisted of a complete rebuild. The pressure control solenoid, tcc solenoid, bushing and bearings were replaced totaling an out of pocket $2900. 00 on a vehicle that was less thank 4 years old. Upon further research I have found that this seems to be a common issue with the eco boost and there is even a recall on the 2008 Escapes. As well as some of the 2017 models.
2013 Ford kuga 60,000 km. Automatic transmission. Engine stalls at random while driving. Stalls both at high and low speeds. Has been into dealer for service for two months, for the first 7 weeks they "could not fix it because they could not find an error code". After I drove it in a circle around the dealer for hours I was able to show them the problem and they obtained an error code, 'solenoid'. Ford says "maybe just replace whole transmission because we're not sure of the problem".
Just purchased a certified pre-owned 2014 Ford Escape se. A yellow check engine light appear. Trouble code p26b7 (dealer specific). It looks like there have been numerous issues with the bypass coolant solenoid or coolant leaks. Also, steering wheel controls only occasionally work.
Transmission solenoid wore out valve body in transmission and leaky seal. Both are a known problem for Ford and they have issued a TSB to their dealers on this issue but have not recalled the vehicle. I had to pay $2374. 00 to fix this known issue. . Read more...

Vct solenoids and cam sensors are faulty. The vehicle stalls randomly, engine lags and exibits poor fuel mpg. The problem occured just out of warranty and upon research; I have discovered this issue is very vast with 2009-2011 Ford Escapes, Mercury mariners, 2010-2011 Ford fusion and Mercury milan vehicles equipped with the 3. 0l engine and built on or before 3-1-2011. My 2009 Ford Escape and many others vehicles should be recalled at no cost out of warranty.
While driving on the highway to our vacation, my car felt like it was surging and the engine light came on. I took my car to the local Ford dealership and the diagnoses code was p0012 and p0022. Both vct solenoids were replaced. My 4 yr old car was still under warranty at the time. 2nd incident took place Sunday, 09/08/2013. Was driving at 45 mph and my car cut off!!! no lights came on until the engine stopped, and at that time the oil & battery lights came on. I was barely able to coast into the median. My local Ford dealership could not see me until this Thursday, 09/12/2013. So the problem has not been diagnosed at this time. I have been told by 2 Ford dealerships that it sounds like the full throttle body. Very scary & very, very dangerous!!! I am not driving my car. Mileage is 34,791. This needs to be recalled before someone gets killed. I sent an email to Ford customer complaints &have not heard back. My car is 4 yrs old & has had 2 major incidents that could have caused major accidents.
As per my vehicle report from the dealership: concern verify cust concern, find that veh spins over but will not start, install ids & performed koeo, all pass. Perfom relative compression test, 80% loss 3,4. Correction: perform manual compression test. Cyl 1-180, 2-175, 3-0, 4-0. Perform leakdown & pressure test, find that intake valves in 3 & 4 are not sealing. Remove valve cover & inspect camshafts, no damage found. Spin vehicle over & verify timing. Find that crank pulley has backet out & vehicle has jumped time. 51-1: remove intake, exhaust manifold, timeing components & cyl head. Inspect and finds that valves in 3,4 have contacted pistons, no damage found on pistons. Install new head gasket, cyl head bolts, 2 new diamond washers, all related gaskets & perform timing procedure. Assemble vehicle, change oil & fill FL. 52-2 koeo, pass. Roer vehicle has dtc po524. Perform pinpoint test, replace vct solenoid, koer all pass. Test drive. Vehicle runs properly at this time. 51-5: cylinder head gasket- leakage (external leaks)- test.

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph the vehicle stalled and overheated. The vehicle was later towed to the dealer where they advised that the radiator seal was fractured, causing a leak. In addition, they advised that the rear axle seal needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired for the radiator and rear axle seals. The manufacturer was contacted and provided 100 percent coverage of the repair. Also, the contact stated that the vehicle would shift in and out of gear without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where they advised that the solenoid and another unknown component needed replacing. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000. The current mileage was approximately 67,000. The VIN was unavailable.

I purchased a 2010 Ford Escape limited on 29 July 2010. On 20 Sep 2010 I noticed as I placed the vehicle in drive it jerked violently and sounded like the bottom fell out of the car. When I came to a red light it shifted hard down to first gear. I had my dad check it out and it did the same thing with him. He took it to the dealer on 21 Sep 2010 and they said there was a problem, it was not suppose to do that. They checked with Ford and there was some adjustments they had to do to the computer. This did not fix problem and they kept the vehicle. They now have to take out the transmission and check solenoids before Ford will send a new transmission. This could become a safety issue, if the operator has to accelerate and the vehicle will not respond. The vehicle has 5000 miles on it.
On March 14, 2010 I purchased a 2010 Ford Escape from tutle-click Ford irvine, CA. Within 3 weeks I began to smell oil burning and hard shifting/bucking of the transmission. In early may I received a letter from Ford stating a need for a transmission solenoid reprogramming (program number 10b15). When I brought it to Ford on June 3, 2010 with a mere 4,369 miles for this service I also informed them of the oil burning odor. They dealt with transmission problem and found an oil leak during the diagnostics. I called Ford customer relations and immediately asked for a case to be started on my vehicle (1422071530) the service manager informed me initially the needed to replace a gasket and it would be a couple days. On June 4, they informed me the engine needed to be removed to get to oil leak area and part was to be ordered for the 2010. On June 8, the service manager told me a short block had to be ordered and arrival would be June 9. On June 9 it had not arrived. On June 10, the short block arrived late in the day and the estimated completion was for June 15, 2010. I picked up the car on June 16, 2010 with 4,375 and no further leaks detected. I was told by the service manager that he put more than 10 miles on it to perform a road test and everything was fine. On June 17, I noticed a big puddle of oil/fluid in my parking area. I received a phone call from a friend I visited and she had a puddle of oil on her driveway. I spoke with the regional customer relations contact on June 17, and he informed me that he would have a factory technician come out to the dealership on Wednesday June 23, 2010. I informed him I would be taking back to the dealer ASAP. On June 18, I dropped off the car and told them my assessment of not only the leak but the transmission was chugging/skipping. I received a phone call at 6pm on Friday to inform me that was transmission fluid leaking an axle seal needs to be replaced. I have lost complete faith in this shoddy and incompetent service.
