8 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 05/31/2014

Vehicle experienced catastrophic brake failure while maneuvering in driveway. Rear steel brake line failed due to installation error which caused it to wear through on a frame mounted fastener. I was under the impression that vehicle braking systems were "2 channel" in that if a catastrophic failure was experienced that only half of the system would be affected. My experience yesterday has caused much concern for other owners of this type of vehicle. In my opinion, all brake lines should be manufactured from stainless steel as it appears the fuel lines currently are. I feel this is a serious deficiency that should be addressed. Thankfully, my experience occurred at a slow rate of speed. If it had occurred at road or highway speed, I may not have been able to file this complaint.

9 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 09/04/2013

Truck is lightly used. Today I hooked up the horse trailer to haul horses and when I was headed down the driveway and used the brakes they completely failed. I engaged the tow mode on the transmission and used the ebrake to stop. There was no warning just brake pedal to the floor failure. If this failure occurred 2 minutes later I would of been at highway speed. There was a large leak on the main brake line above the rear fuel tank. I inspected the main brake line and every place the brake line is attached to the frame there is significant corrosion of the brake line . 2 inches from the attachment the brake line looks brand new. Looks like the engineers used a dissimilar metal and caused a corrosion cell. 10 year old truck and I am spending $800. 00 to replace the entire main brake line. This type of failure on a $50,000 truck should not be happening. Dealer says he has never seen this before. This is a serious safety failure.

10 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

While backing out of my driveway, the brake pedal slowly sank to the floor. I put the truck in park and got out of the vehicle. I noticed an expanding pool of hydraulic fluid forming underneath the truck, just forward of the rear, driver's side tire. Upon investigation, the right rear brake line had chaffed a hole on the frame rail resulting in a loss of brakes. Had this brake line failed at any other time, rather just backing out of my driveway, it could have resulted in dire consequences.

11 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 05/04/2013

2002 Ford f250 super duty rusted steel brake line which caused the brakes to fail at 25mph in neighborhood. I have 84,507 miles on the vehicle and do not live in a harsh environment. The location of rusty area is approximately 6 - 12 inches away from junction splice for the front brakes and rear brake line. The rusty brake line is the long rear brake line. The steel brake line is rubbing a cable cover that has metal tape on it and has caused premature rusting. I live in east tennessee and the weather is not harsh. I purchased the vehicle new and had brake rotor problems before and had the dealer to turn the rotors once and replace the front rotors. Thank goodness I was traveling in the neighborhood when this happen. The week before I drove the truck on I-40 going to north carolina thru the gorge. What if it happened then?.

12 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 07/11/2012

The contact owns a 2002 Ford f250 sd. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the brake pedal traveled rapidly to floor upon engaging. The vehicle failed to slow down until after repeated pressure was applied to the brake pedal. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated the brake lines fractured due to corrosion. The vehicle was repaired. In addition, the entire under carriage was completely rusted beyond repair. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

14 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 10/06/2011

The rear brake lines have rusted out on my 2003 Ford f250 - we received a letter from the ntsb asking if our brake lines had rusted out - they just did last night and almost caused an accident. This is incredible that a 7 1/2 year old vehicle lost it's brakes already.

15 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 10/25/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Ford F-250 super duty. The contact stated that the rear brakes would malfunction when driving in reverse. The contact stated that the brake line collapsed causing the calipers to close in on the brake pads. This caused the caliper seal to burst and brake fluid began leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where the entire rear braking system was replaced. The manufacturer advised the contact that repairs would be at the contacts expense and they would not assist. The contact stated if the vehicle was traveling at a higher rate of speed, a crash could have potentially occurred. The failure mileage was 51,500.

16 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2001 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 07/18/2010

17 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2001 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 08/10/2009

A rear brake line on my 2001 Ford F-250 super duty truck rusted through, causing a loss of brake fluid and braking ability. I replaced the brake line with a part from Ford, but Ford seemed uninterested in addressing this failure, which I had never heard of happening before. I still have the old part.

18 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 02/25/2009

Main brake line rusted through. Catastrophic loss of all braking power to all wheels. Sailed through a seven lane intersection. Poor quality materials used that lead to brake line rusting. Should have used stainless steel to prevent rust. Ford denied product liability claim as "out of warranty". Class action lawsuit should re-plumb all brake lines to be stainless steel. Will never advise people to buy Ford trucks.

19 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 01/20/2009

Brake line failure.

20 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2001 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 04/14/2008

There is a brake line to the rear wheels located roughly above the differential. That line is in close proximity to another cable (maybe the emergency brake cable) and the brake line and cable are rubbing together. The brake line is very worn in that area from contact with the cable. It looks to be worn to a point that would be very close to the "core"of the brake line. Of course excess pressure or further wear could cause a failure of that line and therefore loss of rear braking.

21 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 01/27/2008

Approaching intersection applied brakes and brake pressure failed. Rear impacted another vehicle and pushed them into another vehicle. Upon inspection after accident passenger side brake line was hanging and leaking fluid. Had truck towed back to my shop and removed all 3 lines to have replaced with stainless braided lines. Upon intersection of the driver and passenger side brake lines the crimp clamps located under the rubber covering on rubber line before it turns into steel and goes into caliper. Spoke with brake line builder and states that it is an everyday occurrence. Replace front and rear lines on vehicle. The rubber stores all the moisture, salt, sand and other elements. I was ticketed with careless driving from rear ending the truck in front of me. I have pictures of the line for visual inspection.

22 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2000 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 09/15/2007

Brake line failure, while backing down driveway, brakes were put on the stop, pedal went all the way to the floor, used emergency brake to stop, pulled forward back up the driveway and noticed a lot of brake fluid on the driveway, upon investigation, noticed main brake line had ruptured near the fuel tank due to rust and corrosion, went to napa to get new brake line and replaced ourselves because it was on Sunday and no dealers were open, talked to Ford mechanic at local dealership and was informed that this problem is well know with this truck,"poor design he says".

23 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1996 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 09/07/2007

I have a 1996 Ford F-250 heavy duty pickup which I purchased new and all the brake lines are completely rusted through. I was testing the brakes after adjusting them in front of my house when the pedal went to the floor. All the fluid was blown out of the rusted line on the front brakes, after I repaired them and was bleeding the air from them, while holding down on the pedal another line on the rear brakes blew out. In short, I spent 10 hrs. Replacing all the brake lines that were rusted out. I have older cars and trucks and have never had this issue before. If I had been hauling a load that this truck is rated to pull (14,000lbs. ) towing capacity,I could have run right over someone. I wonder how many other trucks are out there on our roads with this same problem? I contacted Ford motor CO. For which their response was to contact the dealer for repairs that I told them I have already completed. I hope this is an isolated incident but I have my doubts. Updated 01-15-08. The front and rear brake lines rusted through. Updated.

24 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2000 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 08/05/2007

I have a model year 2000 Ford F-250 pickup truck with approximately 45k miles on the odometer. This truck is driven primarily in the summer, and has never been used for snow plowing. Yesterday, as I was driving with my young son in the truck, I experienced a failure of the braking system when I tried to slow down descending a steep grade. Fortunately, I was able to downshift to slow the vehicle and eventually bring it to a complete stop safely. Had the brakes failed when approaching stopped traffic or even pedestrian traffic, the outcome could have been far worse. I know two other people who have had similar experiences with Ford trucks, one of whom was in a crash due to it. Since I haven't heard of incidents like this with any other vehicle, I suspect this is a pattern unique to Ford, and wanted to make sure it was reported. It appears to be a brake line failure, presumably due to corrosion, but I have not yet had it serviced.

25 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 05/06/2007

Drove truck with no noticeable problem, when arriving home parked in driveway. Later went to move truck and observed puddle of fluid in driveway where truck was parked. Crawled under truck before moving it and discovered brake fluid dripping from line that runs from front of truck to rear. Brake line had severe evidence of rust. Replaced steel brake line that ran from junction at front to junction at rear axle. Old line that was removed is available.

26 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 03/24/2007

The main fore-aft brake line rusted through where it follows the frame rails on my 1999 Ford superduty pickup. As a result, the line failed, and I lost all braking capabilities. Luckily, this happened at home, and no injury or crash occured.

27 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 05/25/2006

2002 Ford F-250 brake line rotted. Letter to manufacturer not attached. The consumer believes the rotted brake line may have been the result of poor material.

28 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 03/21/2006

: the contact stated while approaching a red light at 15 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle did not stop. After depressing and pumping the brake pedal several times, the vehicle did not slow down and ran the red light incident free. The vehicle was towed to a local independent repair shop for inspection. The mechanic determined the right rear brake line corroded and rusted completely through in pinhole size spots. The mechanic replaced the brake line and the vehicle operated normally. Updated 5/10/2006 - the consumer still has the corroded line in his possession.

29 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 11/22/2005

Contact stated while driving pressed on the brake pedal and there were no brakes. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home where he checked the vehicle and found the brake lines rubbed together, causing a hole to rub through the metal brake lines. This resulted in loss of brakes.

30 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2000 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 09/17/2005

The consumer stated the brake line failed and rusted in two. The other two lines were like brand new. The one that was rusted must be made out of different material. The vehicle failed on the highway while driving at 55 mph. The brakes just completely failed. This happened on 9-17-05. The dealer said that there was nothing they could do about it. The manufacturer said the same thing. The consumer reported no problems prior to this. (11/17/05).

31 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 06/20/2005

Brakes line from master cyclinder to rear brakes failed causing the loss of brake fluid and all braking capabilities. Power steering cable was apparently chaffing brake line, causing the brake line to rust, and over time, fail. Truck has less than 18,000 miles, with very light and infrequent usage.

32 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 06/19/2005

Applied brake pedal, went to floor, no brakes. The brake line ruptured. I investigated to see where the leak was, the entire line from the undercarriage back is badly corroded, all the way up to where it connects to the line coming from the master cylinder (enen the coupling is corroded). There is obviously a chemical reaction occurring between metals. I had this happen in my driveway with no speed, used my emergency brake to stop truck, if this had been a normal stop (e. G. , a stop in traffic, it most likely would have resulted in serious injury or death. There was no warning of this pending failure.

33 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 04/28/2005

1999 Ford sd f250 crew cab long bed - diesel 6 spd manual: front left break line cut by engine plastic splash shield. Vehicle has 158k miles no rust on break line but you can tell that the splash shield has been rubbing against the metal line. There is obviously not enough clearance created in the splash shield design. I am not sure if this applies only to diesel applications due to the hydraulic power assist …. This almost created serious accident when the line ruptured; we were pulling a 26 ft trailer which had electric breaks that help stop the vehicle before we reached a major intersection. The truck had just been in for service at the Ford dealership two days before for various services. There was no warnings the breaks were firm and the they went withg one step of last step on the break. Break line will need to be replaced, modified to miss splash sheild or splash sheild will need to be modified to assure clrearance to break line.

34 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 03/29/2005

Fail to brake, found hole in brake line to rear axle due to corrosion . I will replace line ASAP.

35 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 Ford F-250
