Abs brakes, air bags, and fuel system failed. At 4700 miles they replaced the entire brake system. Had it a mechanic shop and discovered it was the abs. While going 55 mph and making a left hand turn kept pushing the brakes and nothing happened causing a wreck. Kept taking vehicle to Ford, they could not find anything wrong. Upon impact, air bags also did not deploy. Also, fuel lines shut off. This happened on March 15, 2002.

6 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2002 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 03/02/2004

When driving on icy or snowy roads the abs engaged, it stayed released for 3-4 seconds. This resulted in the vehicle free wheeling. As a result, the vehicle rear ended another vehicle. The dealership indicated that the abs were working normal. The abs released itself. The consumer requested reimbursement.

7 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2002 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 09/26/2003

Abs braking system made a loud hollow sound when brakes were applied. There was vibration and trembling throughout the brake pedal.

8 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2001 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 08/24/2003

Firestone tire 265/75 16, tread peeled off the tire. Caused severe damage to front driver side of truck. Broke wires loose including antilock brake wire. Swerved dangerously to the left across 3 lanes, luckily was able to get the truck back under control. The tire and the 4 others came with the vehicle, 2001 f250sd crew cab, 56,000 miles. Last week our other truck, 1998 f150 with wilderness ht tires had a tread separate and 3weeks prior to that the steel belts were broke in another tire. This truck has 28,000 miles. I think something needs to be done with firestone tires, maybe they need to shut down or quit making tires for SUV's and trucks.

9 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2002 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 02/25/2002

While traveling on expressway consumer applied brakes and pedal went all the way to the floor, also there was smoke coming from passengers side wheel. Dealership is aware of problem.

15 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2002 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 12/01/2001

When applying brakes in emergency situations pedal feels hard, and there is no braking action, at any speed. Vehicle not taken to dealer yet.

16 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2002 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 11/02/2001

When applying the brakes hard as in near emergency baking the steering system becomes inoperable. Sometimes it feels as if power steering is lost, other times it feels as if the steering locks up. I feel this is a fatal design flaw and goes totally against all information that the use of anti lock brakes should be a "stomp-stay-and steer" process. I no longer feel safe driving this truck in heavy traffic.

17 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2001 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 10/11/2001

The problem occurs when applying brakes which causes steering wheel to lock up, resulting in loss of steering control. This occurs at a low speed as well as at a complete stop. Dealer states that a "higher steering effort w/sitting still w/brakes applied" is normal. When ask to try it for himself, he refused. Leading me to believe it was impossible for them to use the "higher steering effort" theory. It is impossible to turn the wheel or steer when brakes are applied at a low speed or at a stop!!!.

18 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 07/20/2001

The power steering went out and the brakes were not working properly, the vehicle shook very hard when the brakes were applied. In July of 2000 the newspaper in beckley, wv , the register-herald, ran an article that NHTSA reports that the Ford f-series super duty truck had problems of losing their steering and brakes. And they could go out without any warnings. That happened to my truck. Ford denies knowing anything about it. What do you know about the report? I have asked to talk to Ford engineers and have been refused. What can you do about this? what do you know about this?.

19 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2000 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 07/10/2001

I have had to have the brakes machined on this vehicle 3 times in 30,000 miles.

20 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2000 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 05/05/2001

When braking hard and trying to turn/steer as in accident prevention and evasive maneuvering, the steering will lock momentarily. It is a hard situation to duplicate since it is a reactionary action and is adrenaline powered, but it can be simulated with the engine on and the vehicle in park. ?dealer insists this is a normal condition and there is nothing to fix!!! this has occured twice within the month of may and both incidents resulted in near collisions.

21 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 04/20/2001

Vehicle had rear brake fire due to rear brakes dragging.

24 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2001 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 04/01/2001

While applying brakes and slowing down engine will continue to surge and accelerate. This problem is causing an increase in stopping distance and trouble maintaining control of truck. Could not determine a cause for this problem. Please provide any additional information / attachments.

25 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2001 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 04/01/2001

I have had three incedents in which I had to use heavy braking to to avoid an something. All of these incedents where at speeds above 40 mph. In the first incedent I had to make a heavy emergency application on the brakes. When I did this the truck pulled violently to the left almost causing me to loose control of my truck. It appeared that I did not have any control of the steering of this vehicle. Since then I have tried several times to duplicat this situation. It does not allways do it to as a severe degree. But I have got it to violently pull the truck to the left on two other occasions. I am a above average driver because I have been a deputy sheriff for about 16 years and have had alot of experience and training in driving in extreme conditions. I have not taken this truck back to the dealer or rotated the tires because I have been advised that the NHTSA wants to drive one of these trucks before any work is done on them. I would be more than willing to let you drive this vehicle . Please advise me what your intentions are.

26 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2001 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 02/06/2001

Automatic fails to shift into lower gears for engine braking. When decending a steep grade the automatic transmission fails to apply. This has the same effect of putting the truck in neutral when going down hill. When driving in the mountains this is extremely dangerous in that it requires the brakes to do the work of slowing the truck. If the brakes overheat then the truck will "run away".

27 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 02/03/2001

On februaary 3, 2001 my wife was pulling into the customer pickup area of sears in amarillo, texas as she pulled up to the pickup area and removed her foot from the accelerator to apply the brakes, the accelerator stuck and our pickup truck rammed the backend of another pickup truck in from her. She shifted to revers, the engine still running at a rapid speed, to back away from the vehicle that she had rammed. Since the engine ws running at a high speed, our vehicle raced backward. In order to keep from backing tnto someone behindher, she then shifted into forward gear and rammed the pickup in front of her again. All of this time the rear tires were spinning and smoking. After she rammed the pickup the second time, she turned the ignition off to stop the crazy situation. Had she known, of course, that the throttle was going to stay engaged at high speed, she would have killed the engine earlier. The combination of anti-lock brakes and an uncontrollable throttle is a recipe for disastor.

28 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2000 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 11/01/2000

When brakes were applied power steering wheel would lock or seize up. There would be no controlling of vehicle. Problem was happening for a short period of time, and it was getting much worse.

29 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2000 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 11/01/2000

When driving in snow and applying brakes all 4 wheels lock up, regular brakes did not work at that time either. Consumer was without brakes for 20-40 feet.

30 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 2000 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 10/11/2000

When brake pedal was applied, brakes grabbed and released. Vehicle kept rolling, brake pedal pulsed and the vheicle did not stop and struck another vehicle in the rear. Dealer has been contacted.

31 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 08/01/2000

I think that Ford has a problem that needs to be addressed it is not a complete failure but it will lead to some faital problems. They have addressed the problem on current models but the older ones are still driving around on inadaquit brakes. The rotors are warping with little use and left unattended will cause loss of control of the vehicle. The dealer is putting a bandage on a serious problem.

Failure Date: 07/07/2000

While driving could step on the brakes pedal and vehicle will pull to the left without a warning.

34 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 02/28/2000

At about every 7000 mile increments my brakes begin to exhibit "brake shudder" a vibration that occurs when the brakes are applied. Not until I was able to obtain a technical service bulliten and show my Ford dealer was I able to get the problem resolved. Followng is the technical service bulletin: some 1999-2000 super duty f-series and 2000 excursions may exhibit brake vibration or shudder while braking. Engineering has released a new brake pad (p/n f81z-2001-ea), which is equipped with a "v-spring. " the v-spring keeps the brake pad off the rotor, which increases brake pad life and decreases brake shudder and noise. When replacing these brake pad use the pro-cut brake lathe to machine the rotors on the vehicle to a lateral run-out of . 001" or less. Besides the shudder the thing that concerns me the most is the vehicle starts to pull to left or right when I apply the brakes. Thank you for you consideration on this issue. L.

35 Brake Electric Antilock problem of the 1998 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 01/18/2000

Abs system does not work properly when vehicle comes to a sudden stop. This usually happens at 30-40 mph. Contacted dealer, and dealer rotated rotors.
