I have 46000 miles on my truck and four times my rear brakes have locked up on me. I bought the vehicle used with 17000 miles so can not tell you how many times it has happened previously. It is no wonder I got a used vehicle with so low of miles. I have lost all faith in driving this truck for any kind of distance. I have been completely unable to move stranded on the road. On another occasion I had to drive fifty miles towing a trailor with vice grips crimping my brake line after I broke the caliper free and guess what they are locked up again. This is a real problem and very dangerous.

While in motion, more often on hot days, the brake calipers, in both the front and back, lock up and the truck needs to be left stationary until they release. The brake pads, calipers, and rotors have been changed numerous times. Ford will not take credit for faulty calipers when I explained the problem at 30,000 original miles. When I asked an experienced local mechanic about the problem, he explained that Ford used two different types of metals in their calipers so they expand and contract at different rates, causing them to lock up.
Driving on our driveway , I went to step on brakes and I had a very hard pedal and truck did not stop, it kept rolling. Stepped on it several more times before I finally came to a stop and kept from going into traffic. It happened two times. Also when turning wheels will being stopped the brakes calipers are making loud chipping noises.

My F-250 has had every brake caliper lock up and cause total brake system failure and repair. Starting at 40k miles it is out of warranty but there is an obvious defect in the design if every caliper has had this problem. My shop did a repair history search and found that the 2009s had a higher failure rate than other years. I also had the manifold warp and needed replacement at just 40k miles. Thanks - dan.

On several occasions, my f250, super duty 6. 0 diesel became sluggish and gas mileage suffered immensely. Then, with only 53,000 miles, my left rear disk brake caliper was dragging and started smoking. At my cost and on the left rear, I had Ford replace the caliper, pads, brake line and resurface the rotors. Also, the right rear rotor was resurfaced. At 54,000, I make a 100 mile trip and the right rear caliper started dragging. I am not sure how to fix this since no one has the solution. Additionally, I do not have the money to replace the entire brake system. However, this could cause total brake failure and a possible fire resulting in fatalities.

Brakes are spongy have blown through stop light twice without time to pump brakes. Dealer replaced front calipers resurfaced rotors and replaced pads at my expense no improvement. Pedal travels 1/2 to 3/4 to floor on initial braking without significantly slowing vehicle, better each time you pump brakes. While towing trailer gain has to be on full so trailer brakes can help stop vehicle, vehicle brakes are insufficient. Took truck back to Ford of kirkland after spending $1000 and was told braking is normal, drove a friends 2011 f250 and brakes are much better. The lack of response on the pedal has created more than 1 near accident and should be addressed by Ford fully as a safety issue. The lack of brake pedal response is consistent regardless of type of driving or speed and has been on going since about 36,000 miles. Truck currently has 48,000 miles.

Loud squeal from wheels when starting from parked location. Subsequent investigation by technicians at Ford dealership service showed that brake calipers were sticking. This problem is same as found on same model in 2011.
Ford dealer reviewed squealing and determined the brake calipers were sticking. This problem is noted in a tech service bulletin from Ford for model year 2011. Dealer indicated this problem has been noticed on other f250 model year 2012 but no TSB from Ford. Dealer replaced calipers on all wheels.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Ford F-250. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle suddenly began to vibrate and pull to the left. While inspecting the vehicle it was discovered the brake caliper had become hot to the touch. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was unknown 109,000. Jft.
Was told by dealer, rear caliper was dragging, I replaced rear brakes and in the process noticed both back calipers were defective at 62000 miles. One piston on one side was attached to the pad and cracked in half. The other side, both pistons were broken. At such a short mileage interval, calipers should not be defective and dragging on the rotors.
We came to a red light and the brakes failed to stop we had to put the truck to a sudden stop by using the trailer switch. We called the dealer but they said they couldn't help so we had to make the repairs on a back road we could not find any company willing to tow truck and trailer so we got a ride to a parts store and got the parts oem brake pads and calipers, problem is the truck is showing signs of same issue with 130 miles on repair.

This safety concern occurred on a 2011, Ford f250, with "26,400" miles on it. Upon leaving my residence, the truck felt sluggish, as if the emergency brake was on. I never use the emergency brake, but checked anyway to confirm it was not set. I pulled over and existed the vehicle, and immediately noticed a burning odor. The odor came came from the driver side front wheel. I reached in to feel the rotor and burned my finger tips from the heat. As a precaution, I checked the remaining wheels and all exhibited very high heat with a burning odor. Luckily, I was within an 1/8 mile of s service station. The mechanic inspected and determined all four brakes had seized due to corrosion. Two calipers were salvageable, two were not. The repair was made with the calipers held for the local Ford dealer for review, and disposition, but the Ford dealer showed no interest, and had declined to personally examine the corroded calipers. The truck was 21 days out of calendar warranty.

While driving I noticed that the vehicle was sluggish and when engaging the clutch in order to shift there was a noticeable braking feeling even though I was not touching the brake pedal. Upon reaching home I saw my front wheels/rotors/calipers smoking and the heat from the wheels could be felt almost 3 feet from the vehicle. I took my pick-up to the dealer and was told that my front calipers had frozen as well as the right rear and the left rear was just as bad but had not frozen yet and probably would. This repair required four (4) new calipers, brake pads and required the rotors to be resurfaced. The dealer said that no recall had been made for this item.
This is the third time I have encountered this problem, and reported this problem as well. . Brought to Ford dealership and told they did not find anything wrong with the vehicle. It continued to happen. I brought the truck to an independent repair shop who knew right away that the calipers were seized. . I paid approximately $1100. 00 for that brake job and told that Ford would not warranty the parts it was beyond the warranty. I was told there was a re-design of the brake shoesl. They replaced one rear rotors, "freed up" one rear caliper. I did advise drivers front was seizing up at one point as well. I was provided the rear rotors and shoes. The shoes were well within usable range which was noted by myself, also a diesel mechanic and a independent auto repair shop. The day I picked up the vehicle I was driving home lost all brakes. I had it towed at my own expense then they discovered the other rear caliper had in fact seized like I had told them they replaced it cost me for the repair. This year may 2013 was again noticed smell of the brakes burning, along with familiar bouncing. Only this time I drove 8 miles when heavy smoke was coming from front wheel what I told them last time and they didn't fix it back to the dealership it went. Although they fixed the problem it cost me the fee for the service. I paid the outrageous price of $2400. 00 in 2011 for the extended warranty knowing this truck would be costing far more than that in future. The mystery vibration some experience that cant be "repeated" at the dealership other than the crap of tire inflationor "road force balancing" which there is no tire shop within 50 miles of me that has ever heard of such a thing is most likely the brakes.
The brake calipers on the F-250 s. D. [right side only] locked up causing it to pull very hard to the right. On the rear I had to replace: rotor, caliper, and pads. On the front, [right] just the pads.
While backing up applying braking, heard pop then had brake pedal pressure failure. Vehicle stopped after striking embankment. Applying brake pedal again pressure returned with grinding and erratic wheel braking. Mechanic found broken caliper support bracket defective caliper and rotor due to interference had this occurred at a greater speed or other location the outcome would have been catostrofic.
I was on my way to the building supply with the truck. I was towing a small utility trailer. As I approached a fairly sharp curve I applied the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. The truck brakes were gone without warning. The trailer brakes locked and slowed the vehicle enough to get safely through the turn. I relied on the trailer brakes and the transmission to complete the trip and get the vehicle safely home. When I got home I called the dealer and had the truck towed there for repair. The dealer said that the failure was due to badly worn brake pads causing the calipers to overextend and a caliper piston seal had failed. Pads on all 4 wheels were badly worn. It was the left rear caliper that failed. I do not understand how the brakes can be this badly worn after only 21,000 miles.
The left rear brake gets hot and smokes and wont release. We took it to our Ford dealership while it was still under warranty. They drove it and said there was nothing wrong with it. We've had to replace the brakes on that tire only now 3 times. Each time the brakes are completely worn through the metal, the rotor has had to be replaced as well as the calipers. Again this has only happened with the left rear tire. The other tires have the original brakes on them. Something has been wrong with this tire since the truck was brand new.
I noticed that when I hit a bump the bed of my truck bounces about two inches, when I looked under the truck I noticed all the supports under the bed were completely rotted. I have also had problems with my brakes. In less than 90,000 miles I've replaced three brake calipers, two rotors, two sets of brakes, and the last time I had it serviced the backing plates were so rotted that the emergency brake wouldn't work and couldn't be replaced without also replacing the backing plates. I have been driving for 50 years and have never experienced this much rot. I feel that the structural damage shouldn't happen this soon, and feel that I shouldn't be responsible for the cost to repair it.
In late 2011, while driving my truck down highway 90 east in pascagoula, ms, the truck began slow down and pull dramatically to the right after applying the brakes. I managed to wrestle with the steering wheel and, in combination with the slowing speed, brought the truck safely to a stop in a walmart parking lot in about 1 mile. I inspected the truck and the front right rotor was smoking and glowing red hot. Apparently the brake caliper had seized after application. I went inside walmart to kill time and let the brakes cool off, hoping that when cooled, the caliper would release and the truck would be drivable. After approximately 1-1/2 hours, I returned to the truck and noted that the wheel was not smoking, but was still radiating heat. I began to drive the truck and it drove without any noticeable issues until I applied the brakes again to stop at a traffic light. After releasing the brake, the truck was now pulling to the left. Expecting a similar issue, I decided to drive directly to the Ford dealership in pascagoula. However, upon needing to apply the brakes again, they did not work at all. I had to use the parking brake to bring the truck to a stop as the regular brakes had completely failed. I continued to experience similar brake issues (pulling and heating from seized calipers) and in June 2015 had a similar experience to the one in 2011. Looking at blogs and complaint sites, Ford's super duty series of trucks, as well as f-150s, are known to have brake issues. This is a serious problem that Ford needs to be held accountable to fix. Please help. I'm tired of shelling out $2,000+ when all I should have to do is replace the brake pads due to normal wear and tear. Due to the sudden and severe "pull" and subsequent loss of stopping ability, this has the potential to be a very serious safety problem.
After a 10 mile trip , got to my home and rear driver brake was smoking. I had continuely complained to local Ford delaership about excessive heat I. E. You could hear crackling after parking the vehicle. I bought a centec hand laser heat temperature lcd gun and demonstrated to the Ford service manager that all discs had excessive heat. They claimed they serviced the brakes. Continually blamed the new york winter and salt. Since I got my last service satisfaction survey shortly after this smoking incident, I wrote that Ford should recall these trucks for this problem since the dealerships either cannot fix the problem or wait till the warranty is up(is Ford itself covering up?) I replaced the caliper myself in my yard since I felt it was unsafe. The pistons in these calipers freeze up due to a manufacturer defect.

Both rear brakes burning, then left front. Loss of braking. Broghut to dealer to have repaired. After having it repaired ( not covered under extended or other warrantee and spending $1100. 00) I was told it was due to not driving the truck enough. Drove the truck the next day and the right rear brake was burning again and lost all brakes. Again towed back to the dealership at which point it was explained to me that the model year 2005 has had a problem with the brakes freezing in the calipers consisitently, however Ford has not had any recalls. I was also advised there has been a re-design of the brake pads, which my original pads had not changed, but still had brake material.

In April 2010, my 2008 Ford F-250 super duty's right front brake caliper froze, causing the brakes to heat up and begin smoking. The Ford dealership claimed to fix the problem in April, but in July, the same thing happened to the front drivers side brake (smoke began billowing from the wheel on the highway). Upon inspection, the Ford mechanic found all four brakes on the truck seized, including the front passenger side brake again. The mechanic stated that he sees the problem all the time on the super duty trucks, but Ford motor company refused to acknowledge that there is a problem with the brake design on its trucks. So far, the brakes on my truck have seized twice within a three month span, and the dealership more or less assured me it would happen again, and that I would need to take my vehicle in for an expensive brake overhaul every time it occurs. This faulty design not only presents a financial burden because of costly repairs, but also puts my life, and my family's lives, at risk every time I drive this vehicle.

Front brakes failed twice within the first 15,000 miles . Caliper's froze up causing pads to stick, causing them to drag and over heat, causing rotors to crack and split. Problem was first fixed Feb. ,2010 at approx. 7500miles. Caliper rusts or corrodes when exposed to any moisture and freezes up/sticks. Ford says I don't use truck enough but the same problem happen to my last f250 after 100,000 miles; please note that the brakes would not release after applying causing premature ware from dragging also no warning lights came on.

This is the first of four times that I have had to have brake work done on my truck. Three of the times I was told that the calipers had frozen and so calipers pads and (except this last time) rotors had to be replaced. This is absurd for a truck with less than 45,000 miles. Understand this is expensive!! have never had anything like this on any other vehicle. Also, I have experienced the oft talked about "death wobble" a few times on the highway. Was rear brakes in 2010' fronts in 2011' now rears again in 2013.
