36 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2008 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 03/27/2010

2008 Ford f250 - right rotor only disintegrating causing major damage to the caliper and rubber boot. Had truck to dealership twice and they could find nothing wrong with the truck, now dealership is saying that it is lack of maintenance on my part. I seriously believe that this is a defective part. Brake on right hand side is completely gone. I think if the dealership would have check this out better they would have found the problem while the truck was under warranty.

37 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2008 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 03/12/2010

I bought my truck in November 2008 brand new. At approximately 13000 miles I had my right front brake caliper freeze up. I was on my way home from work pulled in my driveway got out and saw smoke coming from around my left front wheel. I took it in to the dealership the following day and the dealership had to install a new caliper, pads and rotor. This was all done under warranty, unfortunately this same thing has happened 3 more times - once on the right front, once on the right rear, and again on the left front. The last time was at 48000 miles and I had to pay for the repairs because I was out of warranty. Every incident was the same with the resulting repairs being the same (new caliper, new rotor, and new pads. I hope that something can be done to make Ford remedy this situation before someone gets hurt. Living in michigan I drive on slippery roads and if this were to happen on slippery roads I fear what the outcome of the incident may be. This I feel is a very unsafe condition, I pull a 34 foot fifthwheel camper and would not want to experience this while pulling it. I know of at least 5 other trucks with this same problem ranging in years from 2005 to present. Ironically Ford has issued a TSB on the 2010-2011 Ford superduty for this exact problem. I believe they need to expand the TSB or issue a recall on all of these trucks. I am on the verge of getting rid of my truck because I feel it is not real safe to drive. Hopefully something will be done about this.

38 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2008 Ford F-250

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Ford f250. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the front and rear rotors, the calipers and the front and rear brakes. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure was mileage 42,000. Djr.

39 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2005 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 11/15/2009

The rear breaks lock up on the caliper pins. The calipers and pads have been replaced under warrantee, and three times out of pocket. The Ford dealer now says the problem lies in the caliper pin, after locking up buy new pins grease and you are good. This only last until the truck sits 3-5 days. When the breaks lock up the rear break are hot enough to catch on fire and the stopping abilities are impaired. You look on the internet and this is a very common problem with the superduty Fords. There is no fix available. We are afraid to drive the vehicle because you never know when they will lock. You may drive to town fine but on the way home it is locked and dangerous.

40 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2002 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 10/08/2009

On my Ford F-250 crew cab, all four brakes and rotors went bad and had to be replaced on 10-08-2009 with 81,125 miles on the vehicle. On 11-10-2009 (one month later) I had to replace a caliper on the left rear axle. On 5-16-2013 with 100030 miles (18,905 miles later) I had to install another new caliper and rotor on left rear axle and replace both brake pads. On 8-1-14 with 106,861 miles, (again with only 25,736 miles since last being replaced) both front calipers froze and ruined the left front rotor that will need to be replaced. All replacement parts used were genuine Ford parts. I bought the vehicle when it had approximately 54,000 miles so I don't know how many times the brakes were repaired prior to me buying it. From the internet I see that many others are having the same problems. These brake parts are unsatisfactory. Not only is it unsafe when they freeze from vibration, but it is extremely costly. I feel that this is a huge problem and a recall should be made. Thank you.

41 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2005 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 02/22/2009

On about Feb 22 2009 my truck driver side rear brake caliper froze up causing the rotor to get extremely hot. This could have caused a fire. Truck only had 22600 miles on it. Out of warranty because of year, therefore costing me over $400. 00.

42 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2002 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 03/27/2007

The contact owns a 2002 Ford f250. While driving 65 mph, the contact felt a vibration from underneath the vehicle. The steering wheel shook and the front driver side tire detached. The vehicle drove off the road, crashed into some trees, and caught fire. Both the driver and passenger were injured. A police report was filed. The contact stated that there was no blow out or loose treads that may have caused the failure. The insurance investigation concluded that the tire self-detached from the vehicle because the hub and caliper were defected. The failure may have also been due to heat fracture that caused the caliper to fail. After inspecting the vehicle, a mechanic suggested that the failure may have been caused by bad metal. The manufactured distributed a questionnaire, but the contact has not received a response from Ford. The vehicle and tire are in storage. The powertrain was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 100,000.

43 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2005 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 08/10/2005

I've experienced a recurring problem with the brake calipers on my 05' Ford F-250 super duty. It's an intermittent problem of a caliper hanging up or not releasing after braking. The caliper heats up, the truck shakes, sometimes violently and braking ability is diminished. I purchased the truck brand new from the dealership, and it first occurred at 19,000 miles on a front caliper. Ford has since replaced all the calipers at least once under the original warranty, but now refuses to help. I've replaced the rear calipers at my cost with remanufactured ones, and I'm still continuing to have the same problem. I've spoken with other owners of the same vehicle who have also experienced this problem, so it doesn't appear to be an isolated incident. I've been reluctant to get rid of this vehicle because it's paid for in full, and because apart from the obvious brake defect, it isn't otherwise a bad truck. I strongly feel the caliper design is faulty and could easily cause a person to loose steering control if it occurs in a front caliper. I received a notice from Ford about a year ago, describing what they termed a "handling anomaly" where the truck shimmies uncontrollably and fails to stop shaking within a few seconds like a "normal shimmy". While Ford attributes this to tires and suspension, I believe this is the brake defect that's causing the shimmy. It's easy to tell which individual caliper is sticking as it and often even the wheel will be very hot to the touch while the other three are cool. In fact I've had visible smoke coming from a single brake. It should be easy to investigate this problem-- drive my stupid truck for a week and you'll find it. I'll gladly let you.

44 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2000 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 04/20/2005

I bought the truck used with 138,000 miles on it. I have put about 122,000 miles on it so it has about 250,000 miles on it now. I have had numerous front brake issues with this truck. I have had 8 brake repairs on the truck since I bought it. The truck violently shakes while braking. I have taken it to multiple brake shops and had Ford original parts put back on it. Everytime they change the rotors and brake pads and every other time the calipers. It is just a matter of time before I have an accident. I recently had a repair done and I have only went 2,100 miles and it is violently shaking again. I usually get around 18,000 miles between brake repairs. I have researched the issue and have found hundreds if not thousands of people having the same issue with this truck.

47 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 1999 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 05/01/2002

The vehicle began experiencing a brake fade while coming to a hard stop. After the third time this happened, consumer tried to duplicate the event but was unsuccessful. Consumer took the vehicle to the local service station to have the brake system inspected. The technician looked over the brakes and saw no signs of damage or abnormal rotor wear. The tech suggested theat the rear rotors and all pads be replaced. In addition, the tech informed consumer that the brake line may not have been adequately bled from a previous recall service prior to purchasing the vehicle. Two weeks after the inspection there was a faint scraping sound coming from the right rear of the vehicle. Two weeks after hearing the noise, the brakes failed. On the ground were pieces of the brake pad and small fragments of cast steel. Brake fluid leaked heavily from the rear passenger side. The vehicle was towed to the local service center. The owner of the center concluded that the cause appeared to be a caliper which froze in the engaged position due to condensation within the caliper leading to inner corrosion and thus mechanical failure.

48 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2002 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 04/26/2002

Since 300 miles I have taken the truck to the dealer every 3000 - 5000 miles for the rotors warping, shaking during stopping, severe pull to the right unexpectedly during stopping, no brakes when it is raining or wet out. I don't feel safe driving this truck, I have so far been able to keep from getting into an accident by driving off the road onto the berm until I could get it stopped. The dealers turn the rotors and lubricate the calipers(???) since when do you put grease or oil on the brake components? this works for about 3000 miles and back to shaky and no stop again. The dealer now tells me that it is out of warranty and will cost over $1000. 00 to fix. I pull a 30 foot camper mr Ford, would you like to be in front of me during an emergency stop? I would like you to be there.

52 Brake Disc Caliper problem of the 2002 Ford F-250

Both front brake calipers continuously rattled. They sounded like they were loose and felt like they were going to fall off. The noise stopped if the brake pedal was tapped. The dealer installed new rotors and pads, however the noise persisted.
