Ford F-250 owners have reported 53 problems related to brake disc rotor (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-250. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle's front end wobbled uncontrollably. The contact stated that the vehicle felt as if it were losing control. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the wheels and rotors were the cause of the wobble and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle lost components that needed to be tightened. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken back to the dealer again, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Pickup is a diesel f250, 2002, extended cab. Brakes overheat too easily and rotors become warped. When running down hill and hold brakes for extended period it becomes nearly impossible to maintain control of the vehicle. Pickup is designed to carry loads, and tow trailers, but this occurs with virtually no load. It is apparent that the same brakes are used on lighter weight pickups (I. E. Gasoline engine f250's) and the diesel version should have heavier brakes. I have noted that Ford recognizes the problem in that they have been installing much larger brake rotors on their newer diesel pickups. I have had to purchase aftermarket brakes to increase the cooling ability to minimize this problem. First time brakes were replaced with Ford rotors and same problem occurred almost immediately. Date, number of failures, etc. Listed below are misleading as this is a problem every time I brake. Ford service persons and parts persons just shrug their shoulders at me when I complain!!!.

No accident. 2002 Ford f250 4x4 short bed crew. Brake rotor warping all the time. Not driving through water while hot!.
Vibration when appying brakes because rust on rotors. New rotors installed new rotor rusting, still have problem.
Approximately every 6,000 miles, my brakes start vibrating when coming to a stop. I believe the disc is warping but to date, nothing concrete has been done to fix the problem. So far, the rotors have been turned twice and the disk replaced twice. The problem is reoccuring and I will be taking the car in again. This is a safety hazard as the car doesn't stop properly and the vibrating steering wheel may cause a loss of control. I see several other complaints of the same nature and most seem to be from alaska. Is the cold weather somehow responsible? it takes time, effort, and a lot of emotional grief to argue with the dealership each time I take the car in and tell them that the brakes haven't been right since driving the car of the lot. When is Ford going to permanently fix the problem? changing the disk is apparently not a permanent fix. There is a major problem with the system itself. What do we have to do to get satisfaction, start a class action law suit? have an accident caused by faulty breaks with injury or death and publicise a large settlement law suit? all I want is breaks I can trust. As it is, I get into the vehicle and wait for the vibrtation to start!.
When driving at an undetermined speed vehicle vibrated. The consumer took vehicle to the dealership for inspection, and mechanic determined that both front rotors failed. The consumer stated that front rotors were replaced at 38,000 miles, and currently need to be replaced again at 77,000 miles. The rotors would get extremely hot rather in use or not.
The vehicle shook all over the road and it misfired. It vibrated and rumbled. It was not a problem due to the balancing or alignment. It was something within the engine. Took the vehicle to the dealer, and the problem was still not fixed. Also, had a brake rotor problem. Took the vehicle three different times for the rotors. Had to pay out of pocket to have the brakes fixed. These problems started on March 1, 2004. The back window was leaking water. Took vehicle to the dealer, and that was not fixed. The consumer filed a lemon law complaint.

Warping of front brake rotors. Truck has not pulled anything heavy or carried a heavy load. Pulling to the left, and front end shaking during normal braking. Symptoms increase with braking pressure. Only 25,000 miles on truck. The dealer charged for repairs and would not cover rotor under warranty.
Very rough shaking during highway speed braking and truck lunges during low speed stops. Replaced my rotors multiple times and fix lasts only a short time. I travel a lot of highway miles and very little city. No towing or heavy loads involved. This greatly affects my steering while braking ability and greatly lengthens my stoping distance. Very unsafe!!!! same problems with excursion used by my fire department. If problems continues I know it's the last Ford the city will buy.

Brake rotors warp all the time, causing severe vibration while braking. I have had this problem fixed 5 times. First the rotors were turned, then replaced, then turned etc, etc. I'm due to go in again for the 6th fix, with only 5,000 miles on the newest set of rotors. I only have 52,000 on the truck. So far the dealer has stood behind the fixes but this is a safety concern for me as well as a financial concern since they will start to make me pay. I've been a highway patrolman for 18 years. I abuse my cruiser brakes on a daily basis and they last 40,000 miles! my truck is babied and it eats up brakes. . . Unacceptable.
My vehicle has 34000 miles, it's a f250sd 4x4 diesel. When braking the front end shakes. This has been attributed to rotor warp. Depending on the mechanic I have between 70-90% of the brake pads left. The vehicle doesn't normally tow or carry a great deal of weight. I think that there is a problem with the rotors or some mechanical problem that causes rotor warp so quickly.
The consumer stated no matter how fast the vehicle was traveling, when the brakes were pressed the pedal and the steering wheel vibrated terribly. Pioneer Ford had been informed, but stated that the rotors needed to be machined, and was not under warranty.

Severe brake pedal pulsation since truck was new. Have had four major repairs to the system. Pads, rotors, etc. Still experience the problems. Heat affected poor quality of metal in the calipers.
The rotors over heated, when driving.
Ford f250 2003. Warped rotors, replaced 3 times. Have arrangements for a 4th replacement.
Front disc brake rotors warping. I have had the front rotors turned 4 times and replaced front rotors once in 55,000 miles. I do not tow a trailer or carry heavy loads. Most of mileage is interstate highway driving.
Seveir vibration on brake application . . . . Replaced brake pads and new rotors. . . . Suspension seems fine. . . . New tires. . . . Balanced.
The brake rotors wore out which caused a heavy vibration and extended stopping distance.
Vehicle is hard to steer while driving. Vehicle had been to dealer and problem was reoccurring. Steering is becoming difficult to handle at higher speeds. Consumer has to continually be aware because you never know when the steering will fail. Also the front rotors needed resurfacing at 25335 miles. The right front was badly warped and was causing a vibration while in motion. It was grabbing at stops or when slowing down.
While changing front lower ball joints, consumer noticed the front rotors were chipping on the inside. Consumer replaced rotors.
Brake rotors and front wheel assembly failure at approximately 40,000 miles. Severe front end vibration on brake application. Six visits to turn rotors, replace rear rotors at 50,000 miles, finally replace front rotors at 63,000 miles then new brake pads at 73,000. Still no cure. Ford refused initially to do anything about this, so I was taking vehicle to local tire/brake shop. Schawb tire 1201 hilltop dr redding CA. 96003. . . Ph. 530 221-5314. . . . Finally took pickup to dealer, found front hub failure, worn out ball joints, warped rotors. Covered under extended warranty. However. . . . 7,000 miles later, problem is back!. At time of service by corning Ford, I asked service manager, steve lowery, what was to prevent the brakes from failing again in this manner. He said. . . Nothing! sure enough, he was right! this started in 2001, on the way home from alaska. . In the yukon. Took it to shop as soon as I got home. My extended cna service warranty terminates at 100,000 miles. Since I keep my vehicles for 200,000 to 300,000 miles, I'm very concerned as to the potential safety problems that this failure could cause, and the money out of my pocket to keep this vehicle in safe operating condition. I'm submitting this in hard copy also with corresponding bills by way of us mail . Thank you.
Warping of front disc rotors. The rotors warped out the first time at 30000 miles. Since then the rotors warp between 10 - 20000 miles consistently. Again going online I found many people are having the same problem. All with the Ford f250, 350 model year 1999 - 2003. Presently I have had my front rotors either cut or replaced 4 times. Estimated time line that work was required. ; 30000, 44000, 60000 and the chimmy is back at 76000 . This problem causes the truck to shake and chimmy. Greatly extending the distance which the truck can stop.
2000 Ford superduty built at kentucky truck plant exhibits excessive shaking during braking since @ 3,000 miles. Replaced front discs/calipers 5 times by 100,000 miles even though truck is driven very lightly (no towing, mountains etc. Just normal highway and town driving) Ford dealers (three consulted so far) say this is a known problem and that post-2000 my vehicles receive improvements. We have put the best possible materials/parts that we can identify to minimize problem. We believe that replacement parts represent post-2000my improvements. Brakes continue to wear rapidly, warp and cause significant vibration during even very moderate braking. This is not just and accelerated wear issue but a safety issue in terms of braking performance and handling during breaking.
Vehicle shudders violently upon applying brakes. Dealer informs that rotors are warped. This is second repair for this problem in 8000 miles. Dealer/manufacturer insinuates driver error. Experienced driver-no error. Ford denies responsibility for further repairs.
All the brake rotors had worn excessively and caused a vibration at only 5000 miles of operation. The manufacturer would not resolve the problem. Mr scc.
There was vibration in vehicle when brakes were applied. Dealership examined vehicle, and informed consumer that brake rotors were worn and had to be replaced.
Had rotors turned at 32000 miles. In november2 00o, when applying brakes, vehicle vibrated all way to steering wheel. On Feb 19, 2001 took vehicle to dealer, who said he could not find a remedy. Rotors were warped.
We've been previous new Ford trk owners - and have never entailed such a problem like this. We feel that there is more than adquate reason that Ford should give priority attention to this matter. At general highway speeds, then when beginning to apply brakes, all occupants can easily feel very hard erratic trembling begin on the front end. When having our dealer check into this, he assured us that the front end was okay, but that excessive heat is causing the front brake rotors to distort, and thereby needs lathing/cutting - to correct, and rid the problem of the trembling when applying brakes. This is the third time that we have had to resort to having the rotors lathed. Our two prior Ford F-250hd trucks that we've owned, never displayed these problems in any form.
Was driving and applied the brakes, pedal started to chatter. Stopping distance was diminished. Took to dealership and was informed that rotors were warped. Was not under warranty for repairs. Electrical crossed wires in alternator system were smoldering. It was repaired. Front end would make clunking noise while turning. Nothing was found.
Abs system does not work properly when vehicle comes to a sudden stop. This usually happens at 30-40 mph. Contacted dealer, and dealer rotated rotors.

The was a problem with the brake rotors. When the vehicle was driven, the brakes became warm and the front end of the truck vibrated when applied. The consumer was told by the mechanic, the brakes were warped and it was normal for most of these kinds of trucks. The vibration was caused by the front spindle and rotors.
Rotors warped & had to be turned prior to 1 year.
While getting new tires put on vehicle dealer noticed that front brake rotors were cracked. Dealer refused to fix problem, even though car was still under warranty.
