1 Ignition Coils Failure problem of the 2002 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 07/28/2012

While driving I began to hear a loud popping noise coming from the engine. After stopping and checking the engine I notice I had a blown out spark plug and busted ignition coil. I have a 2002 Ford f 250 sd. I have attempted to put in a new plug but it will not screw into the hole. Damage estimates are from $150. 00 on labor fees and $75-100 on a temp. Fix helicoil or head replacement for $2500. 00. Ford mech. Said it happens all the time, due to poor design.

2 Ignition Coils Failure problem of the 2001 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 02/24/2007

(1)event was instant without warning. Roads were ice and snow covered. (2) popping sound from engine and sudden loss in power causing minor loss in control. Speed was approx 35 mph. Engine continued to run with constant popping noise after stopped. Upon pulling over and inspecting engine I found a blown spark plug and damage ignition coil. (3) initial corrective action was the purchase of replacement spark plug and ignition coil based on spark plug maintenance. Further inspection revealed damage in cylinder head threads caused by poor design standards.

3 Ignition Coils Failure problem of the 2001 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 07/15/2005

While out of town I had just exited the interstate when I heard a loud pop. My truck, a Ford f250 with a 5. 4 ltr triton v8 started running terrible and making a god awful noise. I managed to make it to a nearby parking lot. I opened the hood to find an ignition coil pack and sparkplug laying on top of the engine. I was able to reinstall the sparkplug and replaced the coil pack due (coil pack attachment ear had broken off when plug was ejected from engine. ). Approximately 2 weeks later my wife and kids were on their way to a local park. They had just turned off a major street when they heard a loud pop, they described as sounding like a gunshot. The same thing happened and to date I'm suprised that a fire has not occured or no serious injuries have occured. This is very danagerous the spark plug is actually ejected like a missle.

4 Ignition Coils Failure problem of the 2001 Ford F-250

Failure Date: 11/29/2003

Engine mis-fires and loses power when accelerating from stop/ going up hills, etc. This problem started, on an intermittent basis, at an odometer reading of only 9,000 miles. Vehicle was brought to the dealer four times over 2 years to remedy - - could not diagnose or repair. Suddenly became much worse at 48,000 miles. Two ignition coils found faulty and replaced. Now seeing the same problem at 51,000 miles. Potential safety concern, due to hesitation/ lack of power when turning left across traffic or crossing traffic lanes. Dealer and regional Ford rep. Refuse to cover repairs, even though the problem was identified under warranty, but not found and fixed until out of warranty.
