1 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2013 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 09/18/2020

I bought a used 2013 v6 Ford Mustang used in August 2019. Almost since the begining I've had a problem with it stalling out. The engine itself doesn't stop running but the car loses acceleration and it does not accelerate when the gas is pressed. This has mostly happened when the car is in motion but has also happened when not moving. It has happened mostly while on city streets. This has today I had a problem with this and the check engine light came on. I put a code reader on the port and received the code "p2111 throttle actuator control system stuck open. " I believe this is the same problem that was alleged with the 2005-2012 Ford escape vehicle. . Read more...

2 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2016 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 08/13/2020

At approximately 61,000 miles, the original engine stopped working. Cylinder #3 gave out. Possibly a lspi condition. The engine was replaced under cpo warranty. My new engine has now given out at 36,000 miles. On the 1st engine, I came from Ford dealer after complaining of check engine lights coming on. Oil was changed, codes cleared. I drove approximately 4 city blocks, accelerated from a stop light, and the engine started blowing white smoke and I pulled it off the road. The engine was determined to have to be fully replaced, at 61,000 miles, a long block, not a short block. On my second engine, which has approximately 35,000 miles on it, I was driving the car and an engine light came on. The car was drivable. After parking it, the next time I started it up it was blowing white smoke again. I diagnoses at the dealer is underway.

6 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 10/22/2015

Wrench light comes on, followed by check engine light. Car goes into fail safe mode, down to about 2 mph; rpms fluctuate dramatically. Happens on the highway, and during normal street driving. Seems to be in the throttle, the same thing as in the recalled Ford focus throttle plate actuator.

8 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 07/20/2015

While entering the freeway in rush hour traffic, my car went into "limp mode", the wrench light came on as did the check engine light. I had to pull over on the shoulder of the freeway, turn the engine off and restart it. This has happened a couple of times in the past couple of days- mostly while driving on the freeway. It is very scary to be driving on a houston freeway, have this happen and need to safely maneuver a vehicle to the shoulder of the freeway, often crossing several lanes of traffic when vehicles are moving at 40-55 mph and I have no ability to accelerate. I have also had to stop in the middle of the freeway to restart my car because I was not able to safely change lanes. It was a terrifying experience and I was afraid I would be re-ended by motorist driving at posted speeds. When researching this issue, along with the mariner's, escapes, focus etc, I have found that many Ford Mustangs have this same problem. Given that this is a very dangerous condition, the cost involved in replacing the throttle body, and most importantly, Ford's long history of vehicles with defective throttle bodies, I do not understand why the 2012 Mustang or any other Ford product with this issue are not automatically eligible for the "customer satisfaction program" which fixes the problem. I do not trust this car and no longer feel safe in it.

9 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/23/2015

6/22/2015: I was driving home from work and my car suddenly turned off and the check engine light turned on. It is very subtle when it happened; no jerky movement noticed. I realized what have happened after my failed attempts to accelerate. I was able to use the car's momentum to make it to a parking lot. I step out and examined my car but nothing was out of the ordinary. After 10 minutes, I attempted to start it up (first attempt after incident) and it started up normally. Everything functioned as normal and even the check engine light is gone. I thought it was a fluke incident so I drove home and forgot about it. 6/30/2015: I was driving on the highway and my engine cut off again. I was very scared because I was on the California 91 freeway and it was during traffic hours. I was able to draw experience from the last incident and cruised my car to the side of the highway. After I examined the car and once again wasn't able to find anything out of the ordinary. I started it back up on the first attempt and the car seemed to be operating normally. I was able to make it home safely but it was a very scary drive home. I will have to bring my car to a dealer and get it check soon and hopefully they will have a fix for this.

10 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 12/20/2014

Driving down the highway full speed in heavy traffic, and engine just shuts down. Wrench light and check engine light come on. Have to coast through traffic to pull off to the side of the road and stop. Restart the car a couple of times, and then it's fine. Took to Ford dealer, who said I had a bad throttle body. Charged over $800 to repair. Completely losing power while driving down the highway is definitely a safety issue! Ford has agreed to fix defective throttle bodies on other models, but not the Mustang. This really looks like the same problem, and should be addressed by Ford.

11 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 11/15/2014

11/14/2014 - vehicle engine appeared to stall or shutdown (no power) with "wrench" displayed while exiting highway. Coasted to shoulder and restarted vehicle vehicle mileage approx 32,100. Re-occurred on 12/9/2014 while traveling on highway at 70 mph - was able to coast to shoulder and restart. Ford dealer ran complete diagnostics next day but could not identify a problem. Vehicle mileage less than 33,000. Occurred again on 1/27 on highway while travling on highway at 65 mph - coasted to shoulder and plugged in obd-ii diagnostic tool I have been carrying which displayed p2111 throttle actuator control system stuck open. Restarted care - occurred again 2 miles later this time - same code reading - and now check engine light also on. Vehicle mileage 34,650. Dealer replaced throttle actuator control on 1/28/15 at my expense (not under warranty / no manufacturer recall). This is a significant safety hazard - unexpected vehicle shutdown occurring at highway speed.

12 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 08/13/2014

Vehicle experienced sudden and unexpected loss of engine throttle sometimes in high-speed situations, activation of limp home mode, check engine light, and engine malfunction indicator. Diagnostic code reported failure of electronic throttle body, code dtc p2111. Dealer confirmed electronic throttle body assembly fault basic part 9f991 and replaced, extremely similar to NHTSA investigation pe13-003.

13 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 07/21/2014

2012 Ford Mustang throws check engine light and wrench going into "limp mode" (car cuts all acceleration, and just idles). I had to pull to the side of the road, and shut vehicle off. Vehicle returned to normal after one or two turn ons. This will occur every other day, and multiple times in a day. Very dangerous if it was to happen while merging in traffic. This is not covered under Ford powertrain or emissions warranty, they claim that it is an "attachment" to the engine, not a part of it. This issue has caused them to extend their warranties on the Ford escape and fusion, but not their other vehicles affected by this issue. They have quoted me $700 dollars to completely replace the throttlebody. This is a very dangerous issue, that is linked to more than just the Ford escape and fusion, and Ford has not given their other vehicles owner's the same warranty.

14 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 07/15/2014

While driving my 2011 Ford Mustang down the road the check engine light and the wrench light came on and lost all power, the engine never died but would only idle very rough. I took it to have the code read out, it showed a code p2111 throttle body actuator wide open. It has done the same thing 2 times today. Once you pull over and cut the engine off then restart it will run fine, but not for long before doing the same thing again. I got online to see what the code p2111 means, to my surprise this seems to be a big problem on Mustangs, escapes, and fusions. Ford has issued an extended warranty on certain throttle bodies. This could potentially be a serious safety problem loosing power while driving down the high way.

15 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 07/04/2014

In the middle of driving down the road, all of a sudden I lose power to the gas pedal and the wrench light comes on. I pull over and put it in park, it makes a horrible racket when in idle. So I have to turn the car off and back on. Sometimes it's okay for the rest of the day and other times it's not even a mile down the road and it's doing the same thing again. . . I checked to see if there were any recalls with the Ford company, and there were none. . . My check engine light has since come on and now I know for sure that it's the throttle actuator motor. . . Looks like there have been quite a few complaints of the same thing! I definitely think there should be a recall on this part!!.

16 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2011 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 05/09/2011

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Mustang gt. The contact stated that the check engine light was illuminated. The failure and current mileage was 7, 800.

17 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2002 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 04/10/2010

I own a 2002 Ford Mustang gt with a 2-valve 4. 6l engine with only 46k miles. Around 1 Apr 10 I started hearing a distinct ticking noise from the engine. Not being that mechanically inclined, I assumed some lifters needed adjusting; so, I brushed the noise off. On 10 Apr 10 I was driving on the interstate when I heard a loud bang and then sounds that patted like a harley running out of gas. My check engine light flashed several times. Fortunately, I was only 2 miles from home; so, I sputtered the rest of the way. As I have a diagnostic tool, I checked the code and it read the #3 cylinder was miss firing. I called my mechanic and he told me to change the spark plugs. Once I figured out how to get all that done, I removed the coil from the cylinder and it was shredded with the coil dangling. I extracted the spark plug with no resistance because it was just sitting in the hole. To my surprise, it was the original spark plug that came with the car. I tried to put in a new spark plug, but it would not tightened at all. I attempted several times and even tried to make it cross-thread, but it would not take. When I took a good look at the spark plug, I saw where the bottom three threads were smashed flat and the metal that you gap was mashed against the electric diode. I called bob moore Ford in okc and the service writer, gerry, told me there were no recalls for that event. I asked him what could have caused it and he responded improperly torqued spark plugs. When I told him it was the factory plug, he said then hot rodding must have caused it. I told him its my wife's car and the car doesn't take any abuse. I asked how much bob moore charges to do a helicoil and he said $500. I let him go. I ended up taking it to a mechanic shop and getting the cylinder re-thread for whole lot less and whole lot better attitude. Hopefully, it holds.

21 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 12/18/2006

Have had this car in the shop two times previously. One because the fuel pump was bad, the second because there was a throttle variance and a variance in the transmission and the wrench came on in the vehicle then disappeared. This was checked and supposedly nothing was wrong with the car, because the wrench light was off and never came back on. On Saturday Dec. 16, 2006 there was another transmission variance and throttle variance with the car. Today, Monday Dec. 18, 2006 on my way to work, the engine light flashed on and off then disappeared.

22 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2001 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 01/31/2006

2 weeks after I bought the car, I had reported problems with engine and trans and rear-end. They knew about it, but said they did not have the knowledge to work on a seleen, which that is what I was told I was buying at the time. Come to find out it is no. Big difference in price. On or about Feb 15th 2006 the engine blew, I had parked it in their parking lot. They had my car for a total of 45 days. Still no trans work or rear-end, they said to bring it back in 30 days. Adding on the linkage was damaged when they had it. I had to pay other shop to fix. Along with engine problems, engine light was on. Since June of 2006 my car has been in the shop 10 times , totaling 55 more days. Rental car cost over 2500. 00 and time and mental anguish . Luzzi refused me the 2nd time engine blew because the fact I am married to david harding. He is not on any contract with me. They refuse to do any warranty work on the engine they installed 9 months ago. I paid for a warranty with them for 1800. 00 and I was cancelled because of the money already paid for the car. 10 months , where's the other 2 year prorated fees? the list goes on and on.

23 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 10/25/2005

Purchased vehicle in 4/05-problems started in 10/05. Engine light on and engine idle rough on 4 separate occasions. Two sensors, a solenoid, and spark plug replaced on those occasions. Now car is at dealer because it will stall when idle and lose power. This is really not safe when you are entering traffic! still waiting for the outcome of this. The fuel sending unit needed to be replaced due to erratic fuel gauge-the gauge would show empty when the tank was full.

24 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 07/18/2005

While driving my 2005 Ford Mustang (v6 with 7,000 on the odometer) at approx. 40mph the gas pedal suddenly became totally inoperative. This occurred only once but was followed in two subsequent events with the check engine light coming on and the (yellow wrench light) for the throttle control. This then activated the "limp home" mode. Obviously loosing all gas pedal response while driving was the frightening part of all this.

This has happened on two different occasions, (while the car is idling and when the car is in gear moving). Ford said that this has been reported on numerous occasions but they cannot fix the problem because when the diagnostic check is done no problem codes are recorded. Have you heard of this problem occurring and what can I do to get the problem fixed.
