1 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2018 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 07/31/2018

My check engine light came on while on cruise control on the interstate going 80mph on a 75 and a few seconds after the check engine light came on , the car shut off and locked up and caused me to lose control. Car was taken to a dealership , and the entire bottom end was torn apart and a few engine components were replaced. After receiving the vehicle back from the dealership the vehicle continues to have electrical and engine problems. The car will at random times shut off while driving , main times is the freeway. Second issue is the car has loud knocking to the engine , sounds like a lifted knock , the car was taken to a dealership, and my car was next to a same year Mustang to compare sound and mine was definitely knocking compared to the other Mustang. Third issue is there is a constant squealing sound like a lose belt coming from the back side of the engine (this recently started) and the fourth issue is when I'm coming down to a stop or slowing down even without touching the breaks there is a metal clinging sound that doesn't stop until the car comes to a complete stop. The car only has 17k miles and is never abused , and has always been properly maintained.

2 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2016 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 09/23/2016

I bought a new 2016 Mustang in April. I was driving uphill at 40 mph. All of the sudden the engine cut off. When the engine went off a large wrench came up on the display and it said see manual. I tried pressing the start button but it would not start. I had to come to a complete stop, put the car in park and then was able to restart it. This could easily lead to death! if this would happen on the beltway or I-95 I could get killed. The car didn't overheat and all the gauges showed normal. Now I am afraid to even drive it; I don't want to be killed or kill someone if the engine stops.

5 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2007 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 08/26/2011

Harmonic balancer/crankshaft pulley came apart on a 2007 Ford Mustang v6 while driving. It had less than 37000 miles on it. Luckily, all that happened was serpentine belt slipped off, which I realized immediately when I lost power steering. I was near home and got home safely. This could be a major problem if it happened at highway speed. Replaced by my mechanic, who says that he has seen this numerous time in the past, and that Ford now sells an "updated" part for the vehicle. This suggest to me they know there is a problem, but don't want to pay to replace it.

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Mustang. While backing the vehicle up she noticed a banging noise coming from the front of the vehicle. She exited the vehicle to look for a failure but did not notice any so she proceeded to her destination; however, noise became louder. 10 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 04/18/2009

On Saturday April 18, 2009 my daughter called to say that her car was hard to steer. She pulled over and her main belt had come off, which in turn caused the car to overheat. Upon further investigation and turning the ignition over, the belt fell off again and so did the pulley on the harmonic balancer. We had to have the car towed to a shop. Upon arriving at the shop I was told that the harmonic balancer broke off the crank shaft. When the new part arrived you could clearly see that it has been redesigned. We paid $600 to have the necessary repairs done. I was told by our mechanic that he has never seen anything like this and there should be a recall on it. I hope this will make that happen.

12 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2002 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/30/2006

I was traveling home from work on June 30, 2006, in my 2002 Ford Mustang gt during a heavy rain storm. Upon turning into a subdivision near my house I went through some water in the street that was higher than usual, but not high enough to stall my car's engine or to spray up over the wheel wells. Shortly after that, the steering and brakes of my car quit working. I opened the hood and saw that the drive belt was missing. The next day I had my car towed and the person towing the car indicated that this type of failure happened frequently. According to this person, the drive belt hydroplanes when substantially wet and comes off the pulleys. I had the dealership fix the car and was astounded to find out that Ford knows of this problem and has not notified the owners. On the invoice for the repair it is stated that the tensioner on the engine needs to be updated to a tensioner with a rail. I was also astounded to find out that my extended warranty didn't cover the work ($186. 32). If this kind of failure can occur at speeds in excess of 40 mph, I believe that an accident could happen.

14 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2002 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/29/2004

While driving 40 mph and when brakes were depressed the vehicle pulled from side to side. There was a clunk after the brakes were released, the front tires rubbed on the frame when turning, three belts were installed within 6000, the vehicle smelled like oil, even with the a/c on. The motor rattled before the gears were shifted, with the a/c on the motor would surge up and down to the point where the vehicle would pull. After the consumer would take his foot off of the gas there would be a slight acceleration, the vehicle would hesitate and lunge forward. The vehicle was sometimes hard to start and must be cranked several times. There was a rattle in the rear of the rear of the vehicle as if something was loose moving back and forth. Poor alignment had worn the tires on the outside edge. The bolt from the vehicle was found in the driveway, and the rear window had an air leak.

20 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1999 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 05/10/1999

The pulley slides on to an aluminum sleeve that is part of the front plate on the engine. I was doing a routine inspection when I noticed the pulley slightly tilted. I applied pressure to the belt and was able to pull the pulley, bolt that goes into the plate to hold the pulley on, and the metal sleeve that was broken off of the front engine plate. If this pulley would have came off, the belt would have been instantly frayed by an adjacent engine component resulting in loss of control of the vehicle and possibly power steering. I contacted Ford and they told me there were no reports, recalls, or factory defects. I appreciate any assistance you can provide in letting me know if this is a factory defect or just shoddy workmanship in my particular vehicle. My home number is 011-49-6333-980903. I live in germany. Thank you for any assistance you provide.
