The car will put the automatic transmission in neutral when stopped, and will require an acceleration to cause the car to enter first gear. When this happens, the car lurches forward. This is not every time, but is inconsistent, and leads to a risky situation where there may be a moment of unresponsiveness. The dealer has not been able to replicate the problem.

After changing the battery on my 2006 Ford Mustang gt with 5 speed manual transmission it idles very rough and sometimes dies during driving or idles so low the power steering is not fully functional resulting in excessive steering effort. The car ran fine until the battery was replaced. I followed the relearn procedure in the owners manual but it did not help.

On my 1996 Ford Mustang gt with the 4. 6l engine 3 spark plugs blew out of the engine. I took the car to the local Ford dealer and they informed me that it was a problem that Ford was aware of and that it would be $1,341. 98 to repair the damage. I looked it up online and saw that Ford blames the damage on improper torquing of the spark plugs. As the car only has 49,000 miles it has never had the plugs changed in any way. Three blew out and 2 more would not come out of the engine as the aluminum head and aluminum spark plugs had seized. Ford knows about the problem and refuses to fix it.

My 2000 Mustang gt blew out a sparkplug while on the highway going about 45 miles per hour. This engine has about 40,000 miles on it. It was bought directly from Ford to replace more first engine after 160,000 miles. This is the 2nd engine Ford sent to replace my old engine. The 1st replacement engine blew out a sparkplug on initial startup in the repair shop.

All technical service bulletin stating that vehicles built before 12/19/04 have this problem. A engine cylinder with no compression. Ford is aware but does not want to do anything about it. If fact they want the damaged part return and it's not for a core exchange since the new part has to be brand new replacement. Must be for evidence of faulty part.

I started my car and put it in drive and began to accelerate when the engine raced to 6000 rpms. Put my foot on the brake and the car kept accelerating. I pulled my parking brake and got the same result. I then put my car in park and at that time I was doing about 60 in a neighborhood heading straight for a light pole. I just barely missed the pole but still hit the curb and totaled my car. After turning the key the engine stopped. A mechanic at the collision center looked at my engine and saw that my throttle was stuck wide open. The car is still sitting at the collision center waiting for a Ford representative to come and look at it.

My 2000 Mustang gt, with the 4. 6 engine and with 80,000 miles, experienced a blown out a spark plug while on the highway at 55mph. Just the sound of this (a big "bang!" when the plug hits the inside of the hood and the engine now misfiring, running on 7 cylinders) is enough to distract the best driver and along with the lost of power is an accident just waiting to happen. After being almost rear ended, fortunately there was a parking lot nearby that my car barely coasted to. The plug came completely out of the cylinder head and was laying on the side of the engine with the coil still attached. I understand from Ford, there is only 3 to 4 threads, in the cylinder head, that hold the spark plug in. As anyone with any engineering or engine knowledge would know, 3 - 4 threads are not nearly enough to secure a spark plug in a cylinder head with the compression pressure of the piston. This is clearly a engineering defect that could have disastrous effects if my car was unable to move off the highway. This time luck played into it (with a parking lot nearby), but what about the next time? am I suppose to stop on the highway and take my chances? a plug blows out and there isn't anywhere to park and/or the plug also takes out the fuel rail resulting in a possible fire. As I stated above: an accident just waiting to happen. After further research I've found that this is a common problem on Ford v8 engines made from 1997-98 to 2003. I'm really confused as to why there hasn't already been a recall involving these engines. If I make a mistake, I'm held responsible for that mistake. Why shouldn't Ford be held responsible for their failures that could result in serious injury or even death? the NHTSA should immediately issue a recall involving these Ford engines. Any NHTSA action short of a recall is just plain irresponsible. The NHTSA is a government agency charged with protecting the public. Please investigate this Ford engine defect. The american public deserves nothing less.
A valve keeper inexplicably failed on my 2005 Ford Mustang with only 41,000 miles on it causing the #4 cylinder valve to go into the cylinder and damage the piston and cylinder. End result need a whole new engine.
1999 Ford Mustang gt appears to have crack in plastic intake system, and is losing coolant. Previously owned a 1997 Mustang gt, and this was replaced under a recall. I can not find any info relating to the same problem with the 1999.

The contact owns a 1998 Ford Mustang gt. Approximately fifteen minutes after parking and exiting the vehicle, the engine compartment became engulfed in flames. The vehicle was destroyed. There was damage to another vehicle and to a neighboring home; however, the contact did not know the extent of the damage. A fire report was filed. The VIN and purchase date were unknown. On cold start, there is a "ticking" sound. Took it to mechanic and he gave me a technical service bulletin article #03-25-6, dated 12/22/03, regarding Ford, Lincoln and Mercury engines built before 9/17/2003. Emailed Ford motor company to find out what could be done to rectify the situation as it is a known defect of the car although it is not a safety issue. All they could tell me is there is no recall and take it to an authorized dealer to have it diagnosed and repaired if need.
Spark plug blew out on the 2000 Ford Mustang gt 4. 6l modular engine while driving. Car started to lose power, back fire, and had a strong odor of fuel / oil. Had to tow vehicle to repair shop. 91000 miles on engine when this happened. This was a known problem on Ford modular engines 1999-2003.
- the contact stated that while idling the engine would suddenly rev up to 2500 rpm. The 2005 Ford Mustang would then lunge forward, causing the vehicle to accelerate without touching the gas pedal. The contact stated that he has been experiencing this failure since he purchase the vehicle. The contact currently has the vehicle at sheltz Ford and this is the first time he has brought it to this dealership, but took it to four different dealership trying to fix the vehicle's malfunction. The dealerships stated that there isn't anything wrong with the vehicle and that he might be driving the vehicle incorrectly. Updated 1/29/2006 - when the vehicle was taken to the dealer they informed him that the high rev would go away and that it was a normal break-in condition.
I don't know much about the mechanics of cars, but a spark plug blew out of my 2001 Mustang gt causing a loud repetitive noise and a notable loss of power. It was still under the 30 day/3000 miles used vehicle warranty and it was fixed at no charge to myself. The same thing happened again a week later and I was told (in the best words that I can describe it) the threading in the hole of the part of the engine that the spark plug screws into, would no longer hold the spark plug and that the engine needed to be sent to a machine shop to bore the hole in deeper costing a around $3000. 00.
Car will bog/ have little power on acceleration then you will feel the car pick up and go. Also, when accelerating from into a turn car will bog down then pick back up. If gas is pressed quickly the car will bog then pick up. Mass air sensor replaced in 2003 but problem still happening.

Ford spark plug blow out on 1999 Ford Mustang gt 4. 6 l motor.
While sitting at the traffic intersection awaiting the light to turn green. I heard a loud pop from under hood and all of sudden the car began to run like crap. I pulled over to check under the car to see if something had fallen off, but I found nothing. I then checked under the hood to find out my spark blew out my passenger side cylinder head. I took it to the Ford dealership for repairs, but my extended warranty would not pay for the repair because they do not cover spark plug damages. This left with a $4,463 repair cost to fix my car that I only owned for three months. While doing research on the internet and asking questions in mechanic shops, it has been apparent that Ford engines have defective cylinder heads and recall needs to be issues in regard to this matter. There are many victims affected by this issue and Ford has done nothing about this problem. I drive a 2003 Ford Mustang cobra. I have not repaired my car yet because I'm still hoping for $4000 to fall from the sky.

Hello please forgive my poor english but my problem is that I had just bought my first car from a car dealer within 35 days the plastic intake started spray out of the engine area every time the gas pedal was push then causing other problem to the engine. The 1996 Mustang gt 4. 6 has a cracked plastic intake that should never been on this car please help it cost a lot of time and money.
Coming out of a red light, I heard the sound of compressed air being blown out. I immediately parked in a local store parking lot and got towed to a local pep-boys. Pep-boys indicated that one of my spark plugs had blown out and that the threading on the head was damaged. However, they indicated that they did not do that type of repair and recommended that I take it to a Ford dealer. The first time I contacted Ford was when I towed my car to the dealer for repair. After performing an inspection, they indicated that the one of my spark plugs had blown out and that the threading on the head was damaged. Ford indicated that there were two methods of fixing the problem: 1. ) I could replace the engine head (and associated hardware) on the side that blew out. This option was estimated at approximately $3200. 00. This option however only included 1 yr. Warranty on the side that would be replaced. In addition, Ford would not guarantee that the same problem couldn't occur on the other side of the engine or to another spark plug. 2. ) the other option Ford recommended was to replace the entire engine. This option would cost approx. $4565. 00. This option included 3-yr or 36,000 miles of warranty on the engine. This is the option that I chose. Prior to taking the car out of the dealer, I asked the service techinitian if there was anything that I could do to prevent this from happening again. He indicated that there was nothing that I could do. Furthermore, he indicated that they had seen this problem before. He explained that they had seen these types of failures on Ford trucks like the f-150 and specially the f-250.
After having a strong vibration in the dash at higher rates of speed 60+, and then developing heavy engine knock with rough idling, I took vehicle to the dealership. There I learned that I had 3 bad rods and needed a complete new engine after only having 57,000 on the original one.
While the vehicle was parked, the driver noticed smoke coming from under the hood. The driver opened the hood and disconnected the battery and extinguished the fire. Please provide further details.
The plastic intake on the engine (4. 6 sohc), cracked in the water jacket area causing, an anti-freeze fluid leak.
My 1996 Ford Mustang head gastkets have gone out. My car has 87000 miles on it. I have heard that many 95 Mustangs have had the same problem. I bought my car a year ago and I beleive that the problem was not completly fixed in the newer models. I was told that because my car is a 96 it was not covered by Ford, they informed me that the new models have been fixed and that the head gastket failure was due to my "excesive wear" on my car.
Vehicle's engine has died several times when decelerating. When this happens, the power steering and brakes are obviously lost as well. The first time it happened I nearly sailed into a busy intersection. The second time it occured I was coming off of an freeway exit and almost rear-ended the person at the light in front of me. My understanding, from talking with various people on the internet is that this problem is widespread among 2003 Mustang cobra owners. Something needs to be done to correct this situation before someone gets injured or killed.
Original owner of a 1997 Mustang gt. Car had 124,289 miles on it at the time of this incident. I was at a stop light with one car in front of me. Light turned green and we preceded through the intersection. I was still in first gear, car let out a loud bang. It honestly sounded like a gun had fired. I was through the intersection so I turned off the engine and coasted to the shoulder. I had the car towed to Ford. They told me that the spark plug had exploded and cracked the head. Repairs by Ford totaled $2956. 91 and it took them a week to fix the car. I have the receipt from Ford showing a detailed list of parts replaced, which included replacing the right cylinder head, 8 new spark plugs and gaskets, oil change, engine coolant flushed.

Contacted dealership prior to failure about overheating problem and Ford head gasket history, but they did nothing then and will not cover in warranty.
Vehicle began losing coolant at 58000 miles, blown head gasket, this is a recurring problem with several Ford models and company refuses to acknowledge.
Antifreeze drips out from defective timing cover, and starts causing a burning smell, and severe engine damage. Consumer feels fumes are dangerous.
Blown head gasket, front seal, and cracked timing cover. Ford did not cover head gasket repairs though this is a known problem.
Timing cover is also leaking and saw on the internet that that can also cause major damage.
