I was driving my sons to school at around 7:45 am, my vehicle cut-off in rush hour traffic. I had to quickly put on my hazards and flag the vehiclesin my lane and driving behind me to move ahead of me. I called GMC who told me to go the nearest dealership but my insurance said they would send me a tow truck to get me there. The car was towed to rockville center GMC which diagnosed the vehicle. They charged the battery and claimed a cable was loose but that didn't make any sense. Three years after the same thing happens again but this time the dashboard warning stated the engine needed checking. This time I took it back the neaborhood's autozone which ran diagnostic tests and suggested I return to my dealership with those diagnosis codes/issues. The dealership took notes from autozone's printout, completed a scan test and stated that a camshaft actuators needed replacing to prevent stalling while driving. Whe nasked why this wasn't done when I took there for that very same issue 3 years ago he said that wasn't the issue but now I have to pay for the repairs because I'm 1 wk short of the warranty expiring.

Within two days' time, my 2012 GMC Terrain stalled four different times, all at low speeds. The first time was backing out of the driveway; the other three happened the following day starting up from city street intersections. My concern is being rear-ended in those situations, or beginning to make a left hand turn in front of oncoming traffic thinking you have enough time and then having the car stall. Another concern is having the stalling issue occur at higher speeds, although that never happened to me. I took the car into the dealership on that second day, and they replaced the intake camshaft position actuator solenoid valve. The problem has not repeated itself since. Thank you.
My GMC Terrain has stalled out while driving at highway speeds 65-70mph (I wasn't turning, stopping, or switching lanes). Completely shut off, no power steering or power brakes. I was able to coast over 3 lanes of traffic, in rush hour, and come to a stop on the shoulder. The truck would not restart. Previous times it stalled, and I was able to put it in neutral and turn it back on. Today (January 6th, 2016) however, it would not turn on. It would crank, but that's it. I called a tow truck and have it at the dealership now.

The contact owns a 2011 GMC Terrain. While driving various speeds, the stabilitrak and loss of engine power indicators illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 85,000.
This happens every time I drive. It is like my car is not getting enough fuel. It will stall when we are driving slow and if I am on a hill it will completely loose power. When I loose power the engine is still running but I can't put it in gear. I the. Have to shut my car off start it again and put it in neutral to get off the hill. I am afraid that I will loose power or stall on the highway and I will get in an accident. My warranty ran out less than 2 months ago and I have been talking to the dealership for almost three months. They kept saying nothing was wrong now they are saying I have all these engine problems but now it's out of warranty.
Driver had stopped at stop sign on the exit ramp and as she began to accelerate to crossover to appropriate lane the car stalled in the middle of the road, reduced engine light came on, and check stability light lit. This was in a very dangerous location as the side road the driver was located was at the bottom of a hill, so oncoming traffic would not have been able to stop and it would have been a t-bone hit for the driver and head on for the oncoming vehicle. The car slowly (very, very slowly) moved forward enough to finally get across street and to a safe place. Although no accidents or injuries occurred, it was by the grace of god that no traffic was coming over the hill. This had the potential and has the potential of being a deadly problem if it occurs again or if another vehicle has the same issue. Immediately had tow truck pick up car and take to GMC dealership. I am awaiting the results from the dealership. My work requires a lot of travel and now I do not feel safe in this car with this issue (which after research today seems to happen a lot in GMC vehicles. ).

While driving the vehicle stalled from 35-40 mph to 5 mph. A message came on the screen " engine power reduced". Had I been on highway that would be ended in accident. Contacted gm and everyone I have been talking to them seems to be reading a script to me.
Several times over the last week my car is stalling. It happens if I am at a stoplight, don't get up to speed fast enough, etc. The m as malfunction indicator lamp keeps going on and off. There are several complaints of similar issues and this should be handled by GMC.
Well it appears that there are several complaints on here about the 2011 Terrain stalling. It's been happening to me off and on the past several months. I would be in traffic and it would stall, I would be at a stop light and it would stall, I would go to back out of my driveway and it would stall. I took it in and they can't find anything wrong. Well last night it finally died. Great!! I heard noise when I started the vehicle that sounded like plastic water bottles rubbing together. I had a bag in my front seat so assumed it was nothing. It bucked forward as I put it into drive and stalled. Well. . . The stalling I'd become accustomed to so I re-started. It seemed fine until I went to accelerate onto the main road. . . It bucked, started shuttering, and wouldn't go above 5 mph. I barely got it into a parking lot before it died. I counted no less than 5 similar reports on here. I live in the metro detroit area. . . Had this happened on a highway or during rush hour, I could've been killed. Someone needs to do something before GMC has yet another scandal on their hands or how many people have to be hurt, maimed, or killed before NHTSA gets involved??.
The contact owns a 2011 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and the engine warning lamp illuminated. The contact stated that the steering wheel seized as well. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the cam actuator was defective and needed to be replaced. The remedy failed to repair the problem. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 12,000.
While the car is idling, and moving at crawling speeds it stalled out 3 times, both in drive, and reverse.
I have a 2. 5 month old 2011 GMC Terrain. At 4984 miles it is in the shop for stalling, for a horrible rattle upon start up, and for it jerking between first and second gear. When I took it in this morning it had stalled six times within the past 2 days. It stalls after start-up in forward and reverse and it stalled three times while in idle in a fast food drive-thru. There is also the rattling which happens on cold and warm starts, whether the a/c or eco mode are on. It sounds like metal rattling and like it is harming the engine. The least of my worries, is the fact that between 25-35 miles an hour the transmission shifts very hard and kicks myself and passengers forward. Apparently there is a tech bulletin that has been out for the rattle for several months. Why not fix them before they sell them? also, there is a recall #11195 for "rough idle, poor driveability" that doesn't show up on the NHTSA site or anywhere else but the GMC dealer's computer. Additionally, despite the claims, I have never gotten better than 21 mpg while driving this car including an all highway trip from michigan to indiana. I think it is false advertising and the fuel economy in eco or not is not what they claim when the y sold the vehicle to me.
Tl- the contact owns a 2010 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled and all of the warning lamps illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to dealer. The technician diagnosed that the throttle body and cam shaft were defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 500 and the current mileage was 44,000. Pm.
