My car has been wasting to much engine oil. Has had two oil changes in the last three months. At start up and while driving the check engine warning light illuminated and remained illuminated. While driving the vehicle there is a knocking and clicking sound coming from the engine at low speeds and especially when you first start the car until I get to higher speeds.

Tl- the contact owns 2011 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that while driving, a knocking and clicking noise occurred that was coming from the engine. The contact coasted into a parking lot and added two quart of oil, fifteen to twenty minutes later, the failure recurred with the noise louder, the vehicle started shake then lost power and stalled. The contact shifted into neutral to restart the vehicle, the vehicle was restarted and was able to drive. In addition, the contact stated that while he was making a right turn about a half a mile, the hill got steep, the vehicle lost power going down a hill. The brake was depressed but was failing to stop, the contact had to depressed the brake pedal numerous times and bring the vehicle to a stop. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was later towed to stockton GMC dealer, (address unknown, (814) 238-4905) and was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure a year ago but did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 147,000. The VIN was not available. Aw.
In August, 2019 I had the oil changed and when I wen to leave the parking lot and put the car in reverse the car sputtered and the engine stalled. This happened several times. I then brought it to a dealership. They replaced the timing chains and actuators ($1,416. 60). Two days ago there was a ticking sound and then while I was in gear (drive) waiting for the garage to open, the car started trying to "buck" forward while I had my foot on the brake. I called the dealership and was told that this model with lots of miles (under 70,000) tend to burn oil. I added a significant amount of oil (none on dip stick) and now the vehicle is running fine. Why is this car burning so much oil? I have never had a car burn oil and to be told by a dealership after it was supposedly fixed that burning oil is normal is disturbing as is the unreliability of the car. Will it buck again or die again?.

The car started to "buck" and making a tap tap tap noise like a lifter tapping while driving to work. When I got out of the vehicle, something smelled hot. Checked under the hood and there was nothing wet or steaming. No check lights ever came on. Later at lunch, I left and the tapping noise was louder and the heat gauge increased fast. I stopped at a repair shop. While I waited I checked the oil. There wasn"t any!!! at all. The dipstick was milkey. The oil fill cap was wet inside and milkey. Underneath my car was covered in fresh oil. It was determined to be a busted rear main seal. 4 qts of oil added so I could get home. My mechanic confirmed the diagnosis. He was shocked. He found gm bulletin 14882 online. What is described in that video is exactly what happened. We had a sudden hard freeze x 3 days. The pvs connection at the intake was full of water. When that froze, it blew out the seal. My car has 88,000 miles on it. There are videos after videos online of the same engine doing this exact same thing. I called gm. The best they could do is tell me to report to you.
My car oil consumption is excessive. I have repetitive codes: p0089, p0300, p0366, p228d, p0014 and the check engine light being on. Car is jerking back and forth when at a stop light. Tapping noise made also. Every 1000-1500 my car is always needing oil (at least 2 quarts) and I also have to put more than the usual amount of gas in it then when I first purchased.

I've had this vehicle for 3+ years and right from the beginning everytime I changed the oil was told it was low and asked where it was going. My mechanic told me it was a crankshaft sensor code and just change the oil and so I did and the check engine light would go off . Then one day 800 miles before I'm due to change the oil it starts jerking while stopped and check engine light came on display stated engine power reduced then it kept stalling out then when I saw an autozone store they checked the code which was the camshaft sensor again limped home and did nothing later when I started the vehicle to go to work it made an awful clanging noise and shut it off immediately had it towed to the dealership where they said it blew a rear seal and would need an 8400 dollar new engine the special warranty coverage is well known by the dealerships and to gm so why was the consumer not been notified that this could be a problem if I was told about this I would not have bought this vehicle and I guess that's what they wanted a sale. Now I have a vehicle that I still have monthly payments and they want to charge me for a new engine on top of it ludricas I say.
Janurary 7th 2018 my 2012 GMC Terrain ran out of oil even though it was already fixed 6 months prior for special adjustment coverage 16118 which had pistons, piston rings, timing chain etc. Fixed to repair the oil consumption issue (see adjustments 14882 and 16118. Coverage 14882 is a result of failure to correctly fix the 16118 and is a direct result of 14882 and GMC states they will cover me if this happens. GMC customer service says my VIN # is not covered under this coverage. If its the same exact issue for (model/engine) why would VIN # matter? on top of that I took my vehicle to another dealer (dealership b) as I brought my vehicle to lets call it dealership a so many times before with the same issue. Dealership b filled it with oil and sent me on my way. I told them to make sure the issue was fixed. They said they test drove it and everything is fine and they didnt do anything but put oil in it and test. On the way home Jan. 7th the same day the car starting dying on me, stalling and making popping noises and jerking wildly which is why I brought it in the first place. Dealership b knowing dealership a "fixed" this issue 6 months before so they said they would not fix it even though they know for sure this issue was caused by coverage 14882. I told dealership a this and they said they are only going with what GMC says which is that my VIN # is not covered but they were willing to split the cost with me (roughly $850, admitting partial fault, lol) I said no and then pleaded with them that I shouldnt pay anything cause im covered. They ended the conversation with the vehicle is not covered because coverage 16882 is not related in any way to 14882 but even GMC and dealership b says they are directly related. Who is lying here? I pay $450 a month for a giant SUV that sits in my garage. GMC is knowingly breaking the law, how can they do this to so many people?.
Takata recall- the radio screen goes completely black when it comes back on its un- readable. Also whenever you turn the ac on it makes a clicking sound. Both happen while driving( in motion, stationary, city streets as well as highway. . . Also, the back windows click when rolling them up or down.

Requesting a recall on the 2010 GMC Terrain. Mileage that was on the sticker was incorrect. Far from the truth. Major oil consumption, never seen anything like it. Tapping noise was reported @ 3,000 was told it was normal. Knew it was not. Had to replace camshaft, electrical problem, head lights constantly going, never lasting anytime. Will now have to replace transmission and probably engine. GMC stated they have no record of any problems with the Terrain they stated if there were any problems there would have been recalls and that the NHTSA would have done this. Will this be done? not sure how GMC is getting away with this. So many complaints on line. Are there any class action suits for the Terrain? can we start one? there are plenty of people with the exact same problem. Not even similar it's exact.
I use 1 qt. Of oil every 450 miles and there is a loud clattering noise on initial start up.
Ticking noise from engine along with excess oil consumption. Mechanic says this definitely should be a recall. Timing chain will need to be replaced. There is a noise from the engine when the car idles and accelerating. It consumes approximately 2. 5 extra quarts of oil between oil changes of 3,000 mile intervals.
I had just purchased the 2013 GMC Terrain denali and noticed that it has a bogging sensation in the steering at idle when turning. It feels like the steering is going to cut out - almost like not fully enganging the clutch on a manual transmission when the engine is about to die. Very noisy and annoying in the tight parking garage when you have to turn the steering at a standstill during idle. There is a ticking noise coming from under the dash that sounds like a construction worker jackhammering about 1 block away with the windows up. It can also be described as a helicopter hovering overhead at around 200-300 feet. You can only hear it from inside the cab. I should have noticed this during the test drive, except that the radio was on and there were no tight steering situations. I was told that both of these items are normal by the GMC dealer. Be sure to test out these two scenarios when test driving. Too late for me, and unfortunately I have to live with it but would rather not.
This vehicle boggs down when giving it gas and will often cut off after stopping for no reason. There is a noise when you start the vehicle (like a clicking noise). The vehicle do not get the 32 mpg as what is stated, I get about 20 mpg highway. The gas needle does not work properly. I will fill up and still show 1/4 short. The leather seats are buckling and dealer says its normal but know others with leather seats & not happening to them. Recently took in for "service engine" light and malfunction light. This is new car & none of these issues should be happening this soon. I feel like it's a "lemon" and dealer is no help and these problems will compound as car gets older and warranty is over I will be out of luck. Unhappy customer.
The contact owns a 2010 GMC Terrain. While driving approximately 30 mph the contact heard a clapping noise coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the air conditioner compressor was replaced. The contact continued to hear the noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer a second time where there were other repairs made. The contact was not sure of what repairs were made. The noise continued after the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the noise was constant when the vehicle was driven. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the technicians could not diagnose the failure and offered no further assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 15,000. Updated 02/11/11 the check engine valve and catalytic converter assembly were replaced. Updated 04/21/11.
