2 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2015 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 12/19/2020

On December 19, 2020 I made a trip in my 2015 GMC Terrain. The temperature was 16 degrees. Upon arriving home, I noticed a large puddle of fresh oil coming from the Terrain. I contacted my local mechanic and he advised to bring it to his shop. I added two quarts of oil to the Terrain and I drove the vehicle to his garage. He said he would call me after he accessed the situation. Later that day, he called and said gm had a recall on 2012, 2013, & 2014 model Terrains with this engine but not the 2015. The problem he advised was in cold weather the condensation inthe valve cover froze, causing oil pressure to climb and exit out engine main rear seal. The same place as had happened on my Terrain. The gm recall was# 14882. I called gm and sent a lletter to them . I was assigned case I was advised to take my vehicle to burdick chevrole, cicero, NY. Upon contacting burdick Chevrolet, I was advised by a service manager that burdick does not rate other mechanics work. He also stated there was no way to remove the engine and take it apart as the correct parts were inside the engine. He stated they would not do that. I then contacted gm and advised the work was all done internal of the engine and it was not able to verify the work. I was then advised there was no way I would be reimbursed for any or all of the $1648 bill because the 2015 year was not on the recall 14882. On Wednesday, February 17, 2021 after running errands, upon returning home, I again observed a large oil puddle of oil in my driveway. I called my wife and advised her of the oil puddle. She advised she was at church, approx 4 miles away. I immediately drove there and observed more oil under the Terrain. There was no oil registering on the dip stick. I added 3 quarts of oil I drove the Terrain 3 miles to the mechanics shop again. He installed another rear engine main seal.

4 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2016 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 01/19/2020

I was driving to work this day then all of a sudden I heard a noise. Something like a fan. I thought it was the wind so I let the window down and listened because their were no lights on my dashboard. Then all of a sudden every light came on and it said reducing speed. I continued down the road. . . Came to a red light and wasn't able to move after that. I had to get the vehicle towed to my home. I was in maywood and had to go all the way back to lynwood. Not before waiting 87 mins before the tow truck came in 6 degree weather. I had to go to the police station because it was too cold for me to be in the vehicle. I then got it towed to the repair shop the following day and was told it was my engine. . . Again. The rear main seal had blown.

6 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2013 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 12/25/2017

Driving to family dinner on christmas day and vehicle stalled and died on side of road in -35 degree weather. No indication of failure, no dash warning indicators. Vehicle was moving at posted speed limit (55mph) when incident occurred. Road conditions where good. . . Sunny day. Vehicle was towed to local gm dealership (wheeler's automotive of abbotsford, WI) and, after a diagnostic, it was confirmed that the crank shaft malfunctioned causing a connecting rod to go through the engine block. . . A catastrophic malfunction within the engine itself. Contacted gm customer service multiple times to get reimbursement for the repair costs (new engine) and we were told that our vehicle was out of warranty. Our warranty ended 08/30/2017 with 100,003 miles. Our vehicle currently has 102,xxx miles. Oil changes were always completed at a gm certified repair center (wheeler's of marshfield, WI). There was no indicated from a mechanic that there was a problem with the oil, and there was no dash indicators to let us know as consumers there was an issue. This is a malfunction of the gm 2. 4l direct injection engine, and this needs to be investigated and recalled. Countless families depend on a safe and reliable vehicle to maintain their household. 7 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2010 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 08/07/2016

I bought this car 12/2014 in 01/15 I took it in for a noise coming from the engine. It turned out to be the timing chain. It was replaced. In 12/2015 I had engine problems the engine was replaced with help of the warranty I was out of pocket $850. 00. Now 08/16 it ran hot while on the free. I got off a the next exit and took it to firestone they couldn't tell what was wrong. I had it towed to a mechanic and he replaced the thermostat that didn't work. Had it towed back to the dealership who said something about a battery. That didn't even apply. They sent it back to the people they bought the engine from in 12/2015. They said the timing chain was broke again. They fixed it but it's still running hot. They warranty was voided b/c I drove it off the freeway and the temp reached higher than 280 degrees. They are going to replace the gaskets for $1000. 00 that I have to PA out of pocket and it still might have problems and need another engine. All in less than a year. I refuse to believe this. I believe the dealership either didn't install the engine correctly or the engine was already no god.

8 Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) problem of the 2010 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 11/04/2011

Cam shaft position actuator & cylinoid & balance shaft chain malfunctioning four times between 65,000 & 97,111. Two dealerships stated that they weren't aware that this was a recurring problem, even though all dealerships have access to the gm global site that lists all repairs and this new model had excessive powertrain repair issues due to the 2. 4 liter engine. Gm customer care utilized stall tactics by insisting that an "oil consumption" test be done that caused wasted miles and time and stalled correction of the problem by pushing the statute of limitations past the 4 year limit because they knew the car should have been repaired with a new engine or new car. Neither dealership had the integrity to assist me as the consumer with this issue, in fact I had to seek assistance from external agencies to even learn that there was a complaint process higher than the dealership and customer care when there are repeated repairs for the same the issue.
