I was driving down the road my eps light came on and power steering stopped working. That it indicates a plroblem with the vehicle's power steering system. I have sharched and read that there was a recall. On my 209 hyundia Elantra but when I VIN it says no open recalls. Does this mean it has been fixed before or is mine not covered under ecall. My VIN is [xxx] any help would be helpful. I am a disabled man. That this is my only car to take care of mine and my disabled son needs. When my car was stolen and crashed the whole front end was smashed in but the air bags did deploy. I saw there's several recalls on these cars, one was the airbags. I never got any recall for it and it shows there are no recalls. The brakes have problems, being that it takes forever to slow down. I have to leave about 3 car lengths ahead of me because I can't stop, it takes a while to slow it down. And the steering wheel feels stuck. I had a friend drive it and he said the same thing. It's difficult to handle and not lose control. I'm to the place I'm scared to get on the highway anymore because not being able to stop quickly and swerving all over cause it's hard to control the vehicle. I have had zero recalls tho even with me experiencing this. And the paint is coming off, but at least that won't kill me.

Loosing power steering assist while driving.
On Saturday September 14, 2024 after working a full shift I started my 2013 Hyundai Elantra and the ecs light came on. Which locks your power of steering. After several restarts to disengage the light. I called the tow truck pay the $80 for it to be brought to the dealership and was told that they can work on it on Tuesday. On Monday I received a phone call on stating I will be paying $3000 out-of-pocket. Even tho I have extended warranty nothing would be covered.

This vehicle is part of recall campaign 127. This vehicle had a software update to "fix" problem but is now recurring. The dealership says they will not fix it.
The contact called on behalf of their son who owns a 2020 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while their son was decelerating, speed was unknown, and coming to a stop sign. The next thing their son was able to recall was that the vehicle had suddenly turned right crashing into an electrical pole nearby. The air bags deployed. The driver had lost consciousness during the crash making it difficult to recall all that occurred. The vehicle was towed but they had not yet received any confirmation if the vehicle had been totaled. The electrical pole had fallen and began to catch fire. The fire department had put out the fire. The contact was not completely sure of the damage done to the vehicle. The driver lost consciousness and received an injury on their right arm. Medical attention was needed. The contact could only assume a police report had been filed but had not heard from the police department to confirm. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The steering wheel is locking up and unable to turn key/ignition while parked. This has happened multiple times. I jiggle the steering wheel while trying to turn key. It takes much effort and time until it finally unlocks. The first incident happened perhaps 2 years ago. This week it has occured 3 times within the past 3 days. I do not see any warning lights on my dashboard.
My steering wheel locks up on me and the my check engine light flashes on as it does. I also have a steering wheel light with an explanation point beside it flashes when and before my steering wheel locks up! I can be sitting at a red light and my steering wheel locks up on me. My traction control light is also on and will not turn off. It turned on when my steering wheel locked up and my steering wheel icon came on.
Power steering is loose or tight. It turns off while driving. Clunky sounds when it's working.
On several occasions, starting in the fall of 2023 and occurring most recently on 8/9/24, I observed my Elantra's red eps warning light turn on, and the steering wheel became very "stiff" while driving. Power steering was instantly disabled, resulting in momentary loss of control of the rate of turning in the vehicle. These symptoms are in accordance with Hyundai recall campaign 127, but a VIN search revealed the vehicle has been serviced for the recall. I have reached out to Hyundai customer service and a dealership, neither of which attempted to fix the issue.
When driving the car loses power steering and is harder to control. I am at risk because I cannot control the car how I am suppose to. I have called before but there are no Hyundai service dealers close to me. There was nothing prior but now that it is happening there are warning lamps on.

My car's steering wheel is making a weird rubbing noise after driving for a short time on wet roads. It sounds like rubber is being turned against something (ie not metallic-sounding) this occurs whether I am in park, drive, reverse, and occurs when turning the wheel in any direction. No warning lights turn on. Currently, it only occurs after driving on wet roads (it doesn't actually have to be actively raining; just for the roads to be pretty wet from a recent rain). My mechanic did hear it one time when I was able to drive over immediately after it rained, and said it sounded like it was coming from the area of the mdps, but, was later unable to duplicate it (the sound usually goes away after sitting for 2-3 hours). I've contacted the dealer because there are numerous tsbs out regarding the steering column; however, they said since they can't duplicate it, they will not repair it under warranty or as a courtesy (the jury is out as to whether it is covered under my drive-train warranty, but, as I said, since it's only a TSB, they won't cover it anyway at this point). I am concerned it will get worse and cause me to lose power steering/cause an accident.

The steering wheel clicks and feels loose when it moves. The repair is to replace the steering coupler a piece of plastic for $5 but it will cost $300 or more for my mechanic since it is a 2-3 hour job. This should be replaced by the dealer for free since the part is made to wear out and be defective.
The contact owns a 2023 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while the contact's daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the lane assist was activated, however the vehicle independently steered to the right. The contact stated that the failure occurred on a two-lane road. The contact stated that due to the failure, the vehicle went into a ditch, where there was a concrete covert. The contact stated that the transmission and other parts were detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The vehicle was condemned total loss. The contact stated that the vehicle had been taken to the dealer previously because of failure and an unknown sensor had been replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. In addition, the contact was advised to contact the NHTSA hotline and report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,305.

Steering has become loose and unsafe due to coupler malfunction. Unable to control wheels while driving and clicking noise while turning.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving 20 mph, the contact became aware that the steering wheel was making a loud rattling sound. There was no warning light illuminated. The dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 113,000.
Eps electric power steering warning and unable to steer to drive. I was quoted $3,200 to repair.
We were on our way home from the beach on [xxx]. Coming through birmingham on [xxx] in the far left (fast) lane traveling 78-80 mph with traffic flow, the car starts sounding a loud alarm with red flashing lights on the dashboard. The notification flashing said to “check hybrid system hev battery, stop safely”. The car began to power down with no acceleration. I was unable to get across to the far-right lane to pull over, we had to just squeeze in between the concrete barrier and the cars flying by. Not to mention no flashers – nothing. The car is dead. We started to google hoping someone else had this issue and posted what we could do. There was a video for this exact issue stating to push a button on the left side of the dash that would reset the battery. We did that and it began to power back on. We rode in the far-right lane for the rest of the ride home, worried it would happen again. It did. On [xxx]. , I was able to move over while it was powering down and get out of traffic. We received a notice from Hyundai around this time stating there were 3 recalls that needed to be fixed and one involved the hev battery. We assumed it would fix this issue. We got another notice about 3 additional recalls (one also involved the hev battery) and we called to get it scheduled but they were already booked out until sept. So, we scheduled that appointment for the 2nd week in sept. Fast forward a few weeks after making that appointment and after the recalls were done, it did it again 2 days in a row on my way home from work. One of these times it powered down and the only place to pull off was in a turning lane. The turning lane happened to be for oncoming traffic, but I thought I could hit the reset fast enough to be safe. It took a little longer than expected and I have many videos of this and cars were having to go around me to make their turn. I have one other I can go into more detail another way. We dropped the car at a dealership on 8/12 and have h information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act.

My 2010 Elantra just started making a clicking noise when slightly turning the steering wheel back and forth. Doing online research, I discovered it is a common problem on Hyundai, with the same symptoms as my problem, that there is a rubber star damper gear in the electronic motor system inside the steering column that fails, it completely falls apart, and is very common defect in these vehicles. No warning lamp was illuminated. I am now stuck without a car that I can not drive for fear the whole steering may fail. Because it involves the steering, Hyundai is putting all our safety at risk knowing there is a problem with this “cheap rubber” gear part that controls the steering and is prone to failing. The fix is around $800. Many people have complained on utube comments. Hyundai should be made to recall and fix all these defective Hyundai vehicles. As a safety authority, NHTSA should stop unsafe vehicle production practices when uncovered and dealers force to fix them all.
Since day 1. Brakes have failed. First recall took years. They “updated my software “ brakes still failed. They failed to believe me “couldn’t find a problem “ there’s no warning lights no nothing. Out of nowhere. The brake goes to the floor. Makes a grinding sound and your either going towards on coming traffic or a ditch. Brakes failed at numerous intersections. How I’m alive is beyond me. The best part, either the seat belt is too baggy or strangles you there’s no in between. My entire steering system is junk. Wasted money on tires alignments brake pads brake censors. Dealership has another recall on these brakes with no remedy. I’ve sadly driven this car over 10 years with failing brakes. I drive with my right hand on the e brake ready to yank it at any given times. I’m honestly traumatized by this car. Engine and transmission are junk. Nightmare.
I heard a noise and felt a pull when turning the steering wheel while the car was stationary or at low speeds. Aaa said there was a recall and Hyundai would repair at no cost. The dealer stated I had a defective steering flexible coupler. If I did not replace, it could disintegrate in the steering column. I was told Hyundai extended the warrantee to 10 years or 100,000 miles. My 2013 car is 11 years old with 63,000 miles. The cost of the repair was $657. 68. This is a safety issue with lots of complaints. This should be a recall. I want to be reimbursed for this manufacturing defect.
Car horn doesn’t work.
When reversing and turning my wheels either right or left would hear a clunking sound. When putting my car in drive and straighten wheels, I would hear and feel something slip. While driving and making a right or left turn, on several occasions I have had to literally jerk the steering wheel to straighten vehicle wheels back straight to prevent from keep turning. Dealing with this issue and several trips to a dealership and the issue unresolved I went elsewhere. The automotive repair shop immediately shared with me the issue was related to the "steering coupler"! to date I am very concerned about the safety of driving my vehicle as to not knowing when or if it will completely fail while driving? safety issue!.
Some bad guys tried to steal my 2017 Hyundai Elantra. They broke the ignition from the steering column to gain access and try to start the vehicle. This is the same issue that still happening after 3 years from the kia/Hyundai boys ticktock hack. The federal gov need to intervine. This a very concerning safety issue. The cars are getting to easy to steal. We as consumers can do as much we can, but has been very difficult. It’s not fare for all us to paid for cost related to this issue (cars without immobilizer) like Hyundai and kia’s. This 2 company’s should paid and respond to the gov and the customers for their fatal flaw in designing this cars.
I had my steering wheel telescope out and tilted up when driving down highway I had to hit my brakes because of the car in front of me hitting his as I did so my steering wheel collapsed inward and down we'll do an approximately 45 miles an hour on the freeway. This could have caused me to lose control of the vehicle. And cause major injuries to others and was locked in positiand should have not been able to push in without it being unlocked.
The bulbs are constantly blowing out, and need to be replaced. The steering wheel/column makes noises, and doesn't always lock, but when it does lock, it can be difficult to unlock it! the suspension shakes and rattles. There is a campaign for the corrosion of the undercarriage/suspension, that I was not aware of until a few weeks ago(I do have an appointment for that). The most pressing concern is with the steering(mechanic thinks it could be the coupler), and there are numerous complaints about this on various internet auto forums.
Faulty steering column issue.
I am not able to steer my car. I was taking my 5 year old son to school and I was not able to turn onto the street of his school. I had to slow down in traffic an forcably strain and pull the wheel to the right and pull over on the side of the road. I as very scared I was going to be hit or cause and acident. There was a recall for this problem with this car but it ended for cars that where built as of 2010, but NY car is a 2011 and the issue is still happening.

The contact owns a 2009 Hyundai Elantra. The contact sated while starting the vehicle, the electric power steering warning light was illuminated. The contact attempted to turn steering wheel but was unable to do so. The contact stated there were other unknown warning lights illuminated, that were unrelated to the failure. The vehicle was at the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 15v100000 (steering) as a possible solution however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 311,500.
A steering coupler is failing and will eventually cause a loss of steering control while driving. The steering problem was diagnosed at a local car- x by a certified mechanic. The vehicle is available for inspection. I took the vehicle in for inspection because of a clunking and rattling vibration while driving. The rattling and clunking and vibration caused me unexpected alarm distracting my focus while driving, also I have noticed while turning right or left there's slack or oversteering. The problem started approximately two months ago. There were no warning lights.
The bsd system keeps malfunctioning Hyundai to me that I should report it to yall because it should be recalled if just stops and also the brakes keep having a burning smell to them and the steering wheel when you turn left and right keep making loud popping noises those things should be recalled.
Good morning, I was hearing a rubbing noise every time I turned my steering wheel on my 3020 Hyundai Elantra. I did some research and found a Hyundai service bulletin explaining the worm gear shaft. I brought it to my local Hyundai dealership in manchester new hampshire. They confirmed that it was indeed the worm gear shaft. They replaced it and charged me but when I called the Hyundai corporate office, they explained to me they would not be able to reimburse me even though it has happened on many of their Hyundai and other cars. I am requesting help for this unfortunate situation. The cost of replacement was over $500. Why is the worm gear shaft problem not a recall as of yet? if I would not have had this fixed, it would have caused other problems in the steering. Ty.
