2 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2009 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 09/11/2019

Steering column problem started 2 weeks ago. Every time that you steer or move the steering wheel a knocking sound resonates from the power steering column. I have checked if I was having a problem with the tie rod ends but both are fine. I trace back the problem going from the firewall heading towards up and I have isolated the sound coming form the electronic power steering (eps) motor just right above the universal joint. The steering once seize to operate when park but I have not duplicated it yet since that incidence. No codes have reflected on the dashboard. This is a vehicle being driven by a senior adult woman.

3 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/20/2008

10/2008, I was driving down a steep hill and began to downshift, while braking. My car jerked and skidded at the bottom. I was able to get it to the side of the road. A flatbed towed it and determined that the front drivers side wheel/tie rod had broken. The mechanic noted some corrosion, but repaired what needed to be done. March 2009, I had new front tires placed and balanced. Shortly afterwards, I got a flat tire, had the spare put on and brought it back for replacement. The front end seemed out of alignment, so it was brought back to the mechanic for realignment. It was then they saw that the entire subframe was corroded and "dangerous" to drive. The front arms were bent and subsequently collapsed. The repairs at this time would exceed the value of the car and I am reduced to "junking" my 7 year old vehicle.

4 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2005 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/18/2007

Purchased 2005 Hyundai Elantra November 14, 2007. Dealership carfax showed 40,836 odometer miles. Dealership odometer disclosure statement showed 8,494. November 18, 2007 drove I-26 in columbia, SC. Drove on emergency strip to avoid debris on road. Rear end spun out and lost control of car. Crashed into 18 wheeler and pushed across interstate, up an embankment, under a catch fence and stopped on a service road. A total loss. Not until 11/29/07 that I was made aware of a possible recall on the steering linkage tie rod assembly. Air bag did not deploy. Dmv. Org report of 11/24/07 shows odometer reading 40,836 and no odometer problem title record. Carfax report stated no recalls reported. I contacted the dealerships headquarters about the odometer discrepancy. Shortly thereafter, the carfax info was changed showing odometer reading 8,584 and also they backdated information. Showed odometer discrepancy on the altered report. Just clerical errors? if we suffered a total loss, how come our air bags did not deploy? did we have a true steering linkage tie rod assembly failure? did we truly have 40,836 miles on our odometer? was scheduled maintenance up to date for 40,835 miles?.

6 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2001 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 09/15/2001

After 1 1/2 months of driving this brand new car I began having problems with the steering. The car would wonder in different directions on the road and freeway. I also had steering wheel shimmy. They have aligned my car at least five times on different occasions and forced balanced the car twice to no avail. In March of 2003 an independent service evaluated my car and found both tie rod ends (outers)were extremely lose and needed to be replaced. Because of the faulty rods both the front tires are now cupped on the outer edges and the dealership refuses to replace them. Hyundai performed the work and the problems got a little better, but have since gotten worse again. I am so fed up with this car and need help! I have filed complaint with Hyundai customer service, but the problems still exist!.
