1 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2020

Transmission jump out of drive while driving on the highway to work.

2 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2019

I purchased this vehicle used in the summer of 2018. At the time I noticed that it seemed to shift rather hard but didn't think much of it. Over the last year the shifting has gotten worse. It either shifts late while the engine is winding up causing a rather large jump depending on the speed. Or it doesn't shift out of gear at all causing me to slow down on highways and then accelerate again. In the last few weeks it has also started stalling at random times. Sometimes it will stall when shifting from reverse to drive. This morning it stalled while I was maintaining a speed around 30mph on a side street. I was stuck in the middle of the road until I was able to start the engine again. Even though the car was in park it wouldn't start because the computer still thought it was in drive. Issues are becoming more frequent in less than safe situations. These all seem to date back to the release of the vehicle. Either the software wasn't updated before I purchased the vehicle or the software update isn't a permanent fix. Either way it's just a matter of time before this causes an accident.

3 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2018

Wife was driving vehicle on highway at night, "service transmission" light went on asking her to "put car in park". . . She pulled off road and car slipped out of gear at stop sign, where she had to turn engine off and restart. She was able to drive car home with check engine light on. Car is currently with johnson Jeep in washington, NJ. No contact from them as of yet to issue/repair. I was unaware of recall at time of purchase. I have concerns about safety of vehicle.

4 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2017

While driving on a city street at approximately 45 mph. The vehicle shifted out of gear, lunges and goes again in a jerking/ hesitating manner. Check engine light came on and service transmission light came on. Pulled over put in park and re selected a gear. When doing so it makes a horrific grinding noise and has no power. The battery has been replaced twice since 2014 for a "bad battery" after both of these replacements within 4 months we have now experienced these transmission problems. I stress this is the second time with the transmission issue and also the second time for the battery replacement.

5 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2016

The transmission in my 2014 Jeep Cherokee will slip into neutral at slow speeds, will not downshift when passing a vehicle but instead bogs down and loses acceleration, many times it will start in the wrong gear not downshifting all the way to first when slowing to near stop and accelerating up again. Transmission is jerky between shifts on highway as well as accelerating from a stopped position. When shifting gears the automatic transmission just kind of drags from one gear the the next in a long drawn fashion instead of shifting crisply like it should. I have had a couple close calls at intersections with the car slipping out of gear as I am entering traffic. Also had a near miss yesterday changing lanes to pass a semi truck when my Cherokee just bogged down in front of it instead of having a smooth acceleration to pass him. At the last instant the car finally grabbed the gear it was hunting for and I was able to clear the near miss. I have been to Jeep service where they have admitted to knowing of all these issues and are at a loss to find a fix. They have used flash updates three times without success. After my last visit for the latest update which they practically guaranteed would fix my issue. . . I was contacted by service and told my software was not compatible with their update and that they now want to put in a new transmission. I have been involved with Chrysler diamond service for months asking them to replace the car or arrange to give me a fair trade on the car thinking they would take some responsibility and they have denied my request. I actually bought two Cherokees in 2014. . The first one showed these transmission issues, so I traded it for another one absorbing a loss with hopes that a different Cherokee would get me out from under the problems, but sure enough the second one has the same issues so I lost all that trade value for nothing.

6 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2015

My Jeeps transmission is shifting out of gear, accelerating and driving up the rpms going downhill while I am trying to brake, jumping out of gear and speeding up, or reving up at random moments. This is causing very dangerous driving conditions as my vehicle takes off when it should be slowing down or speeds up for no reason and I have to slam the brakes to get the transmission to "reset". When its in these conditions it revs up the motor and often shifts very hard into the next gear. I did record this on video as its happening to demonstrate how difficult it is to drive the vehicle this way. Its two weeks before the car dealership can take my car and inspect it, so, I am driving around at risk.

7 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2014

Purchased a 2014 Cherokee trailhawk with 0 miles on oct 25. At 200 miles, and 48 hours later I took it onto the beach. As soon as it got into the sand, it dropped to 2nd gear and rpms shot up to just over 3000. Car would not shift out of second. Temp went up to 230. Later on all computers in car started to flash like white noise. Brought it back to the dealer and was given a variety of excuses. Bad abs sensor, loose fuse etc. Went to pick the car up from the dealer after hours when they were closed. As soon as I turned it on, flashing white noise on all the screens. I also took it on the beach a day or two later, and again car wouldnt shift out of second gear on the beach. The car now began to shift very irraticaly. It would up shift very fast accelerate when my foot was not on the gas. When coming to a stop it would down shift so hard. When I brought the car back to the dealer, (now with 700 miles on it) they told me they were replacing the entire transmission. They have had the car for 3 weeks total. Finally picked up the car last week. When I got into the car the odometer ready 6000 miles! I dropped it off with 700. I told him for the 3rd time that I did not want it. I have also been dealing with a Jeep resolution team from Chrysler. Its been a week, the car is shifting more erratic than it has since the new transmission. The sunroof leaks water, the windshield is constantly fogged and looks like there is a clear coat that may have gotten on the car that makes it impossible to see when driving. Also, when I turn the floor heat on, the front defroster comes on. Chrysler contacted me on Friday, and my Jeep has offically been deemed a lemon, and I am entited to a replacement. I dont want a replacement. I want a full refund and to head over to the Toyota dealer.

8 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would erroneously shift into neutral or shift out of gear and failed to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the transmission computer chip was faulty. The computer chip was reprogrammed but the vehicle continued to experience the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer multiple times due to the failure. Also, the contact indicated that the rear passenger side seat belts would erroneously unlatch while the vehicle was in motion. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 15,000. Pam.

9 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

Vehicle surges ahead when stopped, or hesitates on acceloration and sometimes slips out of gear when accelorating. These problems have happened since I purchased the car and so far there have been 3 software upgrades that aren't helping.

10 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2014

Two problems came up at around the same time. The car was delivered with the transmission 4 quarts low on fluid. The car was slipping out of gear, lurching and shuddering. The transmission is a sealed unit so there was no way for me to know that. Then the dash display went completely dark. No feedback was given, its a digital display. So I had no speedometer, tachometer etc and the warning lights were out. I feel like a vehicle with no dash display that slips out of gear when passing or lurches forward when stopping could be dangerous to other drivers and pedestrians.

11 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2014

Vehicle shifts from park into reverse without anyone touching the shift lever. Vehicle also changes gears occasionally when driving, e. G. , shifts from reverse to drive when backing up, or reverse to neutral. Reported to dealer immediately in July 2014 (not aware of problem) and Chrysler on 9/29/14 and again 9/9/15. We are now vigilant when shifting gears and before initial acceleration. Once moving, the Jeep stays in the gear selected, e. G. , hasn't shifted out of drive while driving down the road. The shift problem is a progression downward, I. E. , park to reverse, reverse to neutral, reverse to drive. Unfortunately my wife had another and potentially serious incident this weekend when she parked on level ground, placed the Jeep in park, left the engine running, got out of the Jeep (briefly to check on something), then the vehicle shifted into reverse and started backwards. My wife had to run and jump into the moving Jeep to stop it. On this occasion, she wasn't even in the Jeep and there were no passengers, so no one touched the shift lever. There was a significant pause (I. E. , time to get out of the Jeep and start to walk away) before the Jeep changed gears. On the occasions when the Jeep shifts from reverse to drive, we have been fortunate that no person or object was close to the front of the Jeep and the driver was alert and able to stop within the first few feet; we will not always be so lucky. Other manifestation of this shifting problem is when shifted to reverse, we watch the indicator say reverse then, after a noticeable pause with no one touching the gear lever, the Jeep will shift into neutral or continue into drive. Knowing that this is a problem, we watch the shift sequence closely and catch this "slipping out of gear selected" problem to avoid an accident. Is this a drive by wire electrical problem?.

12 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2014

While turning at a stop light the car slipped into neutral. Check engine light came on, service transmission message on dash, parking brake light came on and also traction control light. Pulled over and restarted car still would not engage into to drive. Had to let car sit for 30 minutes then restarted and went back in to drive. Made it to dealership but slipped out of gear one more time on the 20 minute drive. The exact thing has happened 2 more times and has now been at the dealership 3 times in 2 weeks. Afraid for my safety at this point!.
