Just bought this car from private owner, I asked of any recalls, she told me none at all. Didn't even have it a week and transmission stuck in neutral and couldn't remove the keys.
The vehicle keeps getting stuck in a gear then dropping into neutral while driving. Its very dangerous.
Gear becomes stuck in the transmission while driving at low speed causing vehicle to rock as if it was hit from the back, took it in multiple times and was told the transmission software need calibrated but I suspect it is due to unexpected shifting of the transmission to neutral, resulting in a loss of drive which may increase the risk of a crash.
The vehicle randomly downshifts into first gear while driving approximately 30 mph. It is a very hard down shift accompanied by getting stuck in neutral. This occurred while driving down a city street.
Very clunky and un even shifting. If I speed up and let go of the gas the wheels lock up and it feels like someone rear ended me. Sometimes when going in reverse and the want to go forward it seems the car can't find the gear and it get stuck in neutral for a while.
I bought my 2014 Jeep Cherokee oct. 2016 I noticed when I would come to a stop or pull out it would stay stuck in the gear and then all of a sudden it like kicked into the gear with a jerk. I took it back to the service department and they told me there wasn't anything wrong. Well, it has never stopped and has gotten worse. What upsets me that there was a recall on this Jeep July 12, 2016 NHTSA campaign number: 16v529000 transmission may shift unexpectedly to neutral if the vehicle unexpectedly shifts to neutral, there is an increased risk of a crash. What makes it worse the dealership was unaware of this when they sold it or when I brought it back?? Friday I left work at 6 am I drive an hour I drive on busy highways my Jeep suddenly lost power on a dbl lane road with cars behind me and to the left, I am thankful I was on the right side that I could drift over to the side, but the snow that was packed along the guard rails still left me 1/2 in the lane flashing something about my transmission. Thank god I was not on pennsylvania, interstate 70 when this happened because it would have been a major catastrophe with multiple vehicles and tractor trailers. I call the dealership where it was bought told him what had happened . . . I got an appointment in about 2 weeks this Jeep is unsafe!!!! plus there are other issues with it.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. When the vehicle was engaged in drive or park, the gear shift became stuck. Also, when the vehicle was shifted into park, it failed to display on the instrument panel in a timely manner. The vehicle was taken to bergeron auto Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (3525 veterans memorial blvd, metairie, la 70002, (504) 888-2131) where the contact was informed that they knew of the failure, but could not assist. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 63,000.
While driving on freeway around 70mph, the transmission warning light along with other warning lights came on and the engine immediately lost power along with losing power steering. Was barely able to get off freeway. Was able to drive home on city street with transmission acting like stuck in one gear. This car needs to be recalled immediately before someone gets killed or seriously injured. I've read of hundreds of complaints with this vehicle and it's a matter of time before something tragic happens to a family. Jeep knows there is a problem with this particular nine speed transmission and needs to be forced into taking action.
Bought this at steve jones Jeep in owensboro ky in may of 2014. I took it back to them 4 times complaining about transmission shifting erratically. This is a similar complaint that I have read over and over about on this site and other forums. Jeeps response is to do an other software download. They did 2-3 software reloads but said it was running normal and there was nothing they could do. I have learned to deal with it for last 1. 5 years. It has days where it shifts really rough other days it is great. My friends joke with me whether my car is having a good or bad day, seriously! sounds funny but it has been really aggravating. Every once in a while it stalls when coming to a stop at stop signs/lights, or when taking off. To restart have to remove key and then it usually restarts fine. This morning it seemed to be running fine, I pulled out of subdivision and it stalled in middle of road. I tried restarting and it wouldn't, could hear fuel pump up and engine turned over then starter disengaged. During this I was nearly hit by a on coming car. I push if to side of road. After 8th or 9th try it finally started. It had a red warning "service transmission" and engine light on. It stalled several more times after putting in gear. It felt like it was stuck in 3rd gear. I shut it off for 10 minutes then restarted it and warnings were gone and it drove normal to work. Coming home it also stalled once while leaving work. Today was the first time this has happened that it nearly caused a major accident. I really fear this problem will end up in my death, I will end up killed in an accident because of a software glitch. I made another appointment foe this Saturday at dealer but I already know what the out come will be. They will reload the software and there will be no change. I can not afford to buy another vehicle but after this morning I feel I have to do something.
At 15,000 miles my Jeep started to shift hard, and get stuck in low gears when trying to accelerate. The check engine light came on. I took it in for repairs, after a week in the shop, I tried to drive it home, didn't even get it home before check engine light was back on and it was back in the shop now needing a new transmission.
If you slow down then try to speed up the vehicle hesitants at some point it bangs into gear then takes off. I almost was in an accident trying to merge into traffic from a ramp onto a major highway when I applied pressure to the gas pedal the vehicle did not speed up it was like it was stuck in a low gear and would not accelerate this caused the person behind me to swerve around me so he could get ahead of the speeding traffic then my vehicle had a loud bang as it finally went into gear and took off like a bullet. Scared the hell out of me. So yielding in this vehicle is extremely dangerous. I know this happens so I am very cautous when driving as this could cause a major incident to happen and it is scary. I had several recalls on this vehicle and had them all fixed. Took this to be fixed, but they can fix it. They knew exactly what I was telling them as they were getting complaints from other owners. Stop and go traffic and slow and go traffic is everyday life this is extremely dangerous to myself and others.
While driving the car and slowing down, the transmission dropped to a low gear and never recovered. Service transmission indicator came on as I limped home. Brought the car in and it was upgraded with new firmware. Took the car back and after a week had another occurrence. Was driving on the highway and again the service transmission light came on. This time the transmission was stuck in a high gear, and then I lost all gears and coasted. I was lucky to reach the highway shoulder, as tractor trailers flew by me. Turned the car on/off a couple of times (and went from park to drive) and suddenly the car jerked into gear (jumped forward violently). Got going and took it back to the dealer. In my opinion this is a real safety issue. My family is not willing to use the car, and at this point, I would not allow them to use it. I see many similar issues. Can't believe such poor quality is acceptable!.
My car will shift hard in reverse, sometimes into drive, and also from 1st gear into 2nd gear. Also, when turning, and trying to accelerate, I notice the car feels like it is in slow motion and does not accelerate, even if I am stepping hard on the pedal. I have also noticed that the car will not shift into higher gears when climbing in elevation. Many times I have been driving up in elevation, and will be stuck in 4th gear unable to shift to a higher gear. The problem all seems to revolve around this new 9 speed transmission. I have taken to the dealership, and they have checked the computer to find nothing. I am updated on all of my recalls. I was told next time, "I should buy a v6" by the dealership.
Started car in garage and in shifting to reverse, heard very loud clunking noise and transmission warning lights on dash turned on. Put in park, turned off vehicle, started again and same thing happened. Drove vehicle to dealer and car felt like it was stuck in 3rd gear. Slow acceleration at stop signs and while on highway, vehicle would not shift and was at 4000 rpm at 60 mph. Same thing has happened on 9/19/14 and 10/6/14. Dealer updated transmission software once and is waiting for new software update.
Transmission safety complaint : built 1/2014 delivered 6/2014 purchased Jeep Cherokee on June 2, 2014 with 170 miles on odometer from capo motors dba orange coast Chrysler, Jeep ) . Returned Jeep to sales agent June 10, 2014 complaining of transmission not shifting from forward stopped position correctly . He informed us that transmission must adjust to us. ( 1 ) Jeep seems to down shift to a neutral mode even though the transmission indicates Jeep is in the drive gear mode. When applying gas to the Jeep the transmission hesitates then lunges forward requiring driver to apply the brakes to avoid rear ending vehicle in front. ( 2 ) when applying gas the Jeep seems to " quick " shift from lower 1-3 gears to middle gears with excess strong loud force. ( 3 ) when driving down CA. 18 steep mountain two lane highway from 5500 ft. To 1500 ft. . In drive mode the Jeep suddenly shifted into neutral when gas was applied rounding a hair pin bend. I could not apply the breaks because of heavy July 4th. Boat trailer traffic behind me. I shifted to manual from drive and the number 9 drive mode was indicated. I then move the gear shift to drive minus and 2 mode was indicated. The Jeep then lunged to a slower speed. I was able to regain control of Jeep to round the bend and immediately pulled to the side of the mountain road. ( 4 ) Jeep gets very poor mileage, seems to have high rpm and seems to be stuck in too low of gear on highway. ( 5 ) in city driving any 90 degree stop light turn from a stand still position requires diligence and extreme caution due to transmission hesitation and erratic nature of problem. ( 6 ) transmission oil has had a foul smell at times.
Immediately after purchase, I noticed a degree of sluggishness during transmission shifts and lack of ability to reach 9th gear using the automatic transmission in drive mode. 9th gear is unattainable. The dealer told me that the transmission "learns" to an individual's driving style; be patient. At 3775 miles 4 Aug. 2014, I returned the vehicle to the dealer, and they did, as they termed it, a software update; but the update didn't really fix the problem. On 09 Apr. , 2015 I again returned the vehicle to the dealer with the same complaint. They reported that they had performed a reprogram of transmission and powertrain control modules (r01 18-r0-11-84 0. 5 & 18-ro-11-52 0. 8). Since then, my vehicle has been performing even worse. Approaching an uphill incline, the transmission doesn't downshift until it nearly stops; then it suddenly after 3-5 seconds, lunges forward. Also I experienced a near 't' bone miss, as I attempted to accelerate from a stop sign because. The vehicle seemed to be stuck in a high gear and wouldn't respond expect in a sluggish way that only got me in the way of approaching traffic. By aggressively pushing on the gas it eventually shifted and bolted out of the way of oncoming traffic. I contacted the dealer about this, and was told there is another software update due about the end of June 2015. I contacted them again during the week of 6 July, but was told that there is no update. Frankly, I'm afraid to drive it. It just isn't safe behaving in this unpredictable manner. I've given it enough miles to allow the transmission/drivetrain to learn my driving habits. When I do drive it, I'm reluctant to have anyone else in the vehicle. Is there anything that your office/NHTSA can do to motivate Chrysler-fiat to eliminate this concerning issue? the dealer is york, 500 prescott lakes parkway, prescott, az 86301.
Since the purchase of my new 2014 Jeep Cherokee the transmission has shifted rough when in stop and go traffic, getting stuck in the lower gear and then finally slamming into the next higher gear causing the car to jump forward - extremely dangerous when in close traffic! it only happens when in stop and go traffic up to 15-20 mph and it seems like it will not shift no matter how much I accelerate then it releases suddenly. On the highway in the higher gears it seems to slip only occasionally. The rear seat belts also have consistently "locked up" removing all slack until you have to pull over and stop the vehicle, turn it off, unbuckle the belt let it all the way back in and then reattach it. Yesterday 4/28/14 it did this again to my granddaughter, when we found a place to pull over it would not let us unbuckle the lap piece or give her any slack in the shoulder strap to get out of it, I was forced to pull into a recycling center and borrowed a knife from one of the workers to "cut" the belt in half so it would release her. Both rear seat belts do this on even roads with no sort of incline or bumps! I will be carrying a pocket knife from now on, what if we were in a accident or needed to exit the vehicle quickly??!! dealership said they would order new belts and have them installed, I have an appointment to take it in tomorrow for them to diagnose the transmission problem & seat belt problem. I will follow up with the remedy or lack thereof. The current mileage is now at 8700 miles.
Wife was driving new vehicle to work traveling approximately 20 mph. Vehicle stalled. Tried to restart and the en drive on. Service transmission appeared in dash. The check engine light came on and the drive indicator was flashing. Vehicle stalled again. Restarted again and vehicle moved roughly stuck in one gear acting like it was going to stall again. Dealer was called to come get the vehicle for service. The dealer completed update for drivability. No other problems found at that time. Began to notice rough shifts sometimes around 8000 miles. I was driving in town on 06/21/2015 and car stalled holding up traffic. Same scenario of stuck in one gear, check engine light on,service transmission light on and the drive indicator flashing on and off. Had to restart twice and limped home. Taking back to dealer today. Milage 14889.
