1 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2025

I purchased this 2014 Jeep Cherokee from taverna collection in Feb 2025 and received it in March 2025. The selling dealer was required to inspect the vehicle before delivery and did not report any transmission or valve-body issues. On June 25, 2025, the vehicle received a multipoint inspection at auto angel in santa fe. No transmission failure, shifting issues, or valve-body concerns were found. The Jeep was not showing symptoms related to recall u90 at that time. After this, I attempted to have recall u90 (pcm/tcm reprogramming) performed. Lithia Chrysler in santa fe confirmed the recall by email and scheduled an appointment, but after towing the vehicle to them they refused to perform the recall and repeatedly stated “there is no recall,” forcing me to tow the vehicle home and then again two days later to a dealership in albuquerque. At the albuquerque dealership, I gave clear instructions not to perform any paid repairs—including a transmission valve-body replacement—until the u90 reflash was completed and confirmed. I never received confirmation. The dealership later claimed they followed protocol but refused to release the witech session report or timestamps showing when the recall work occurred. They told me I could only see documentation after paying $2,600. I contacted fca/stellantis. The case manager said her supervisor stated the dealer “followed protocol,” but fca admitted this was based solely on the dealership’s word. Fca could not confirm whether they reviewed the witech diagnostic session or any recall repair records. Under 49 u. S. C. §30120(I) and 49 cfr part 576, manufacturers and dealers must retain detailed recall records, including diagnostic data and timestamps, to verify proper recall completion. Fca’s inability or refusal to verify the recall using these required records raises concerns that recall u90 may not have been performed correctly or in the proper sequence. I request NHTSA review this matter.

2 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2025

10/20/2025 I was driving my sons car because he told me the car transmission locked up on him while he was driving 65mph on highway, and sure enough it did it to me. I took it to davis moore Jeep dealership and they told me the tcm needed to be replaced ($1,200. 00 out of pocket), so on 10/25/25 the tcm was replaced 10/26/25 we picked car up after work was done and not even 4 miles from dealership the car locked up again, but this time it had to be towed back to dealership. Today 11/04/25 dealership told us the pcm is out qand needs replaced and it would be $4k out of pocket. Now this problem happened on the highway at 65mph and a student driving and could have been bad luckily there was no one on road yet. The tcm and pcm have both had recalls done advising to reprogram both components which have been done and now Jeep car care says there is nothing they can do.

3 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2025

We have had the vehicle inspected by 2 different mechanics, first saying the tcm was out now both confirming our ptu is failing. This is our sons only vehicle; while he driving the vehicle to and from work, and going to school sometimes the car will start flashing “esc off” and will stop while he was driving. Almost like the car has slammed on its breaks. This has happened while he was going 10mph and happened going 40mph, the last time he was going 65mph down interstate and car locked up causing him to slide down exit ramp luckily no one was beside him at the time. Of course this puts not only him as risk of serious harm or death, but the other drivers on the road if his car decides to slam on its breaks and someone hits since this happens out of nowhere. Again, this issue has been confirmed by two separate dealership service centers and two separate dates. The vehicle has not been inspected by manufacturer, insurance representatives, or police except for the two separate mechanics we took our vehicle to. 1 week before this issue began the esc off button started flashing which we immediately took it to the dealership a few days later and was diagnosed with a failing ptu. This car is incredibly dangerous to drive and each time we drive it — it feels like a death sentence.

4 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2025

My 2014 Jeep Cherokee began exhibiting repeated transmission and electrical malfunctions, particularly after startup or while idling. The most concerning issue is the appearance of a “switch to park” warning message, which occurs while the vehicle is already in drive. When this happens, the transmission fails to engage properly, and I’m unable to shift into gear without cycling through park multiple times. **seems to start happening after filling gas tank to full** this poses a major safety risk, especially in intersections or during stop-and-go traffic. The car has also experienced flashing odometer issues, rough idle, and erratic behavior when shifting — all of which point to a communication failure between core modules (bcm, tcm, pcm). A Chrysler-certified dealership performed a proxy alignment after acknowledging that the modules were “talking at the same time. ” while no fault codes appeared on my obd-ii scanner, the dealer determined that the issue required a software-level alignment. However, I was told this is not part of any current recall or TSB, despite my symptoms being identical to other complaints already logged (e. G. , NHTSA id 11425007). This problem has occurred multiple times, both before and after dealership service. I was also informed there are no current recalls, but VIN-based systems like vinseeker. Com have suggested there may be open recall alerts related to transmission or software issues. This type of malfunction places the driver and passengers at risk of unexpected stalling, transmission disengagement, or inability to accelerate — especially dangerous in high-traffic areas. The issue appears to be known, systemic, and potentially tied to faulty transmission control software or defective module synchronization.

5 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 04/29/2025

When swapping from park to drive my tcm code came up and vehicle went into neutral/limp mode.

6 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2023

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle began to shake, after which it lost motive power and suddenly jerked forward. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the pcm wiring harness. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 23v338000 (electrical system, structure), and the VIN was included, but parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. VIN tool confirms parts not available. The failure mileage was 103,000.

7 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2023

1st repair attempt: on April 2, 2021, 14 days after I purchased the vehicle (purchase date: 3/18/2021), I received multiple error messages stating "service electronic parking break" "service anti lock breaking system" "service park brake" "mil" light was blinking "cel" light was on as well and my vehicle would not accelerate. I was on a high traffic interstate and could not move the vehicle to exit to the shoulder. The dealer stated that my pcm/tcm needed to be "flashed" and my abs module needed to be replaced due to a csn w20, w84 and w80 code. The part to replace the abs module was not in stock and my vehicle remained with the dealership until April 16, 2021 (a total of 15 days) 2nd repair attempt: on may 21, 2021, 35 days after the repair attempt, for the 2nd time I received multiple error messages stating "service electronic parking break" "service anti lock breaking system" "service park brake" "mil" light was blinking "cel" light was on as well and my vehicle would not accelerate. My children were in the car when this happened. The dealer once again, for the 2nd time, had to order an abs module as well as reprogrammed according to all manufacturer recommendations (pcm/tcm/dtcm, etc) and my vehicle remained at the dealership until June 1, 2021 (a total of 12 days) 3rd repair attempt: on October 6, 2022, for the 3rd time I received multiple error messages stating "service electronic parking break" "service anti lock breaking system" "service park brake" "mil" light was blinking "cel" light was on as well and my vehicle would not accelerate. I was in the middle of a busy interstate when this happened. My vehicle remained at the manufacturer approved dealership in repair until October 27, 2022 ( a total of 21 days) all receipts, invoices and services completed to attempt repair are documented and can be provided upon request. Most recently, August 10, 2023, all of the same error messages and issues above are occurring and I am unable to move my vehicle.

Failure Date: 05/27/2023

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph all the warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle began to down shift independently and then upshift. The contact stated that the vehicle had begun to lose forward momentum and then had stalled. The contact pulled over, he had power steering and brakes functioning, however the instrument cluster was blank. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts and all functionality returned. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the tcm needed to be reset. The vehicle had been repaired. The contact stated that the failure had reoccurred. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

9 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2022

Driving with 5 year old grandson when vehicle violently began shifting into park. Dash panel warning said to shift into park before selecting desired gear. This happened multiple times while in traffic, almost causing us to be rear-ended. Gear shift changes became violent as if we were being rear-ended as vehicle slammed into gear. Car shut down several times. Problem re-occurred in July when driving my 97 year old father on the 495 beltway (after dealership charged $1,100 for replacing tcm and reprogram). This time car bucked and message came up on dash display to shift into park before selecting desired gear. Car did this 4 times while driving causing great risk because car had shifted into neutral and would not go unless stopped and placed back into park. Now dealership saying no codes and wanting to change rear diff on a guess.

10 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2022

Unknown. While driving one day the traction light and check engine light came on and then the 2014 Jeep Cherokee sport SUV started shifting gears funny like on delay mode. Engine tach gauge showed engine was reving higher then normal but the vehicle wasnt moving any faster. Then when taking off from a standstill at a light the SUV shifted like it was stuck on first and then jerked when it finally shifted up to next gear. Took it to oriellys to have them hook up the scan tool and it read tcm - gear jerked while in neutral type of code.

11 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2022

Recall was issued stating transmission would shift into neutral while driving. Recall was performed and vehicle is still shifting into neutral just like before the recall was performed. (recall v69 reprogram tcm 18v69182).

12 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2021

So I took vehicle in for recall because transmission was getting stuck in neutral and I wanted them to reprogram tcm for update to see if that helped. He stated that no recall was needed but he replaced tcm which is costing me 1500. 00. If they couldn't reprogram tcm am I paying for a replacement?.

13 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2020

In October of 2020 while driving on the highway my Jeep shut off and lost all motive and electric power. The steering wheel locked up and the brakes applied themselves. My wife was driving, doing about 40-45mph. A message came up that said put vehicle in park and turn off. After doing so my wife was able to turn the vehicle back on and get home safely. We took our Jeep into to be looked at by the dealership. They said they found a code for low voltage but the battery was good, just loose connections. . No other codes were present. They also stated that they found loose grohnd cables to the chassis and pcm, both were tightened. On 11/18/2020 after filling my gas tank, I turned on to the frontage road and my jee again lost all power. Gave me a message that vehicle must be stopped before shifting gears.

14 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2020

Vehicle spontaneously shifted into neutral while driving in the morning of 11/3/2020 to work. I had just gone up a small hill into my work parking lot and was going 10mph or less. I had just begun to press on the brake to slow before turning into a parking space when I felt my vehicle lose power. I immediately stopped the vehicle and shifted it into park, my car stalled so I turned the ignition and restarted my car. When I shifted it into drive and began to release my foot of the brake I felt the car slightly roll back before the gear shifted into drive. I parked my car and went into work. After online research, there was a recall (Chrysler recall no. V69) on 2014 Jeep Cherokee suvs with a 3. 6l engines with the same issue regarding the transmission software. My vehicle is a 2. 4l engine but had the same exact pattern as listed by other owners such as recently filling up the gas tank and it giving a warning on the dashboard screen but having no warning lights or other indicators that there was an issue. I took my vehicle to a Jeep dealership on 11/4/2020 and had the software updated. Upon closer inspection by the dealership they concluded that the transmission needs a full replacement. I have contacted Jeep directly and they have stated there was an extended warranty on (x80- 9spd transmission) that expired in August of 2020. I never received notification of this, or of the need to update the tcm or pcm.

15 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2020

Our mileage/odometer is flashing and states TSB. The tcm has been reprogrammed 3-4 times and still malfunctioning. Electrical issues through out cause stereo to not turn on sometimes and the all the sudden turn on its own. We have made complaints to the Jeep and they said the recall have already been done they wont help us and then close our case with out any solutions. We have already spent 2000 or more fixing issues that don't help the problem. We completely replaced the shifter and the whole assembly that goes with it. We have had a quick learn done to the transmission. We still had codes popping for the tcm prior to the shifter going out. We have had codes come up for the drive train and where told that recall was already done and we still have issues. We are at a loss here and dont know what else to do. We have only got this car a little over a year ago and have reported problems since day one.

16 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2020

Following transmission related recalls r01, s55, u63, v69, and the latest one in August 2020 w47- the transmission will shift into neutral with out warning in motion. The dealership attempted to reprogram and replace the tcm at no resolve. Jeep has been contacted and responded with a "no goodwill" approach, as in not assisting in any way.

17 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2020

The safety recall to reprogram the transmission control module was completed on 9/4/19. My vehicle worked properly until August 2020 and has returned to lthe same issue I had beforw the recall was completed. The Jeep loses power when braking to below 20 mph but not coming to a complete stop & pressing the accelerator. There is a second or 2 delay before the car will accelerate, then a hard shift as if the car has gone into gear.

18 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2020

After having the recall for the transmission control module fixed my car started stalling out. It shifts into neutral while driving and you have to stop and shift to park then back to drive. It will not idle for long and will die if you don't constantly pump the gas pedal. It almost died on me while making a left turn into a parking lot in on coming traffic. And it didn't want to go up hill into my driveway, which is a tiny incline. I didn't have any issues with my car until after the recall.

19 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2020

A continuous problem exists with the tcm/pcm for our vehicle whereas it gives little to no warning that power is failing and stalls out while car is in motion; runs rough; rpm indicator shows acceleration when it's basically going under 25 mph; list goes on. Three weeks ago, new starter put in. Two weeks ago, car started acting up again. Dropped off at Dodge to locate problem. This is the third time in past year vehicle has had same issue. In Dec '19, Dodge claims it needed updates for the transmission. Okay. . . Run updates. . . $500 later. Vehicle has been into Dodge dealership several times since car was purchased, and both tcm (recall replacement) and pcm (last week) have been replaced. We inquired about any further updates needing done at that time. . . "no, it's good to go. " unfortunately, during this pcm repair process, they informed us that the "bad" pcm had also damaged the starter (yes, the brand new one) and the car battery (new as of oct 2019). The pcm parts/repair alone sucked $1300 out of my account. It's been less than one week since we finally got the vehicle back, and we are right back where we started as far as performance, ie running rough, dashboard messages, losing power, stalling out, etc. . . And the new pcm was supposed to have been the problem. Why isn't there anything that can be done to remedy this issue? it's costing a small fortune just trying to ensure it's even safe to drive. Other drivers tend not to be very alert when it comes to approaching a vehicle that is going much slower than other traffic; very scary when our Jeep begins to fail in traffic. This issue presents safety concerns for my kids driving vehicle. These are common, known issues among other Jeep owners and I don't understand why the consumer is responsible for upkeep/repair on a bad auto engineering design, much less driving an unsafe vehicle.

20 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

22 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2019

Intermittent jerky transmission shifting, typically at lower speeds (<20 mph). When this happens, often results in transmission error that states vehicle must be stopped or placed in park. Until stopped and put in park, no acceleration or ability to shift otherwise. Typically happens at intersections or stop/go traffic . . . Very dangerous. We had the v69 recall performed . . . Still happened. We took it back in and dealer replaced the tcm . . . Still happens. Need to resolve before allowing my teenage daughter to continue driving vehicle.

24 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2019

Had the recall for the transmission control module done hoping that would solve the issue, but it didn't. Our car when at a stand still or when driving the car will all of a sudden be stuck in a gear and then find itself real hard. Recently the car was at a gas station and went to put it into drive and it wouldn't move, then all of sudden boom in gear it drops.

25 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2019

Service shifter message on. All the gear shift lights are on. Dealership reported wire harness wires are 'frayed' needs to be replaced. Never had any work done in that area. Has to be a manufacturing problem. This has also caused the following engine code to arise. P0222 description the throttle position sensor/switch is located on the throttle body of the intake manifold and the pedal position sensor/switch is part of the accelerator pedal assembly. These sensors tell the engine control module (pcm) how fast the driver wants to go and how quickly it needs to get up to speed. When the pcm detects a problem with this sensor or the circuit for the sensor, it will set code p0222. The pcm may also limit the speed of the vehicle to 20 miles per hour or less ("limp home mode") to protect the engine and the driver due to the control module's inability to accurately detect the engine performance being requested. Almost caused me to wreck going to work.

29 Automatic Transmission Control Module problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2018

Previously had 2 separate recalls regarding the tcm (transmission control module), both we're immediately remedied at the dealer. However, at 111,000 miles my check engine came on and my transmission began acting funny. Prior to taking back to the dealer I stopped at the local autozone and had them identify the code that triggered my check engine light. The tcm was not accepting the data correctly, meaning the tcm needed re-programmed or replaced. Due to my vehicle being 11,000 miles out of warranty, the dealer refused to correct the problem, even though this was clearly a Jeep problem, and not a user problem. I have never done any towing and all of my miles are highway miles. I researched this issue and this is, by far, the most common complaint for this particular year and make. I feel since it is a Jeep issue, it should have been corrected.
