My 2014 Jeep Cherokee began exhibiting repeated transmission and electrical malfunctions, particularly after startup or while idling. The most concerning issue is the appearance of a “switch to park” warning message, which occurs while the vehicle is already in drive. When this happens, the transmission fails to engage properly, and I’m unable to shift into gear without cycling through park multiple times. **seems to start happening after filling gas tank to full** this poses a major safety risk, especially in intersections or during stop-and-go traffic. The car has also experienced flashing odometer issues, rough idle, and erratic behavior when shifting — all of which point to a communication failure between core modules (bcm, tcm, pcm). A Chrysler-certified dealership performed a proxy alignment after acknowledging that the modules were “talking at the same time. ” while no fault codes appeared on my obd-ii scanner, the dealer determined that the issue required a software-level alignment. However, I was told this is not part of any current recall or TSB, despite my symptoms being identical to other complaints already logged (e. G. , NHTSA id 11425007). This problem has occurred multiple times, both before and after dealership service. I was also informed there are no current recalls, but VIN-based systems like vinseeker. Com have suggested there may be open recall alerts related to transmission or software issues. This type of malfunction places the driver and passengers at risk of unexpected stalling, transmission disengagement, or inability to accelerate — especially dangerous in high-traffic areas. The issue appears to be known, systemic, and potentially tied to faulty transmission control software or defective module synchronization.

When swapping from park to drive my tcm code came up and vehicle went into neutral/limp mode.
I am filing this complaint to report a seemingly common ongoing and worsening transmission issues in my 2015 Jeep Cherokee, which persist and have become significantly worse after receiving the u90 recall update and a subsequent tcm/pcm software update offered by Jeep. My vehicle shifted regular before the update after the update, the vehicle began exhibiting: •harsh and delayed shifting •sudden jerks and gear hunting during low-speed driving •uncommanded downshifts •severe hesitation from a stop, especially at intersections or in traffic •loss of power under throttle, with unpredictable shifts these symptoms make the vehicle unsafe in daily driving — especially in traffic or at intersections — as it often fails to respond predictably when attempting to accelerate or shift gears. The transmission behavior feels erratic, and software updates have not resolved the issue. Despite the u90 recall and repeated visits to the dealer, the transmission continues to perform poorly and poses a safety concern. Other owners have reported similar issues post-recall. Jeep has not issued a full recall for these problems beyond software updates, which clearly do not solve the underlying mechanical or calibration issues resolution sought: I urge NHTSA •investigate post-u90 transmission behavior in the 2015 Jeep Cherokee •consider a formal recall or service campaign for the zf 9-speed transmission (9hp) due to persistent performance and safety problems •require Jeep to provide a permanent fix for affected owners.

Hi, there are numbers of recalls and 3 of the recalls came back. I got engine light with the codes u0402 implausible data received from tcm u0164 lost communication with hvac control module tcm bcm and pcm needs to be reprogrammed or replaced. Also car is accelerating while cruise control is set. Fca satisfaction notice - r01 fca recall - s55 NHTSA recall - 16v - 529 fca recall - u63 NHTSA recall - 18v - 332 these 3 recalls need to be redone. Thanks.
Pcm fails intermittently. Dealership is replacing it and has the defective one. Safety is definitely an issue because the vehicle stalls without adequate time to pull off of the road. Unable to move it off the road because it does not engage the transmission. Dealer has been able to replicate and confirmed the problem. Component has not been inspected by anyone other than the mechanic at the dealership. Several warning lights go off just as the problem occurs but not in time to get out of unsafe situations. Recall #18v524000 on 8/8/2018 covers the problem I am experiencing but my vehicle is not in the VIN series covered by the recall. I strongly believe the series my car belongs to should be included. This is a safety issue.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle began to shake, after which it lost motive power and suddenly jerked forward. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the pcm wiring harness. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 23v338000 (electrical system, structure), and the VIN was included, but parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. VIN tool confirms parts not available. The failure mileage was 103,000.
I received an error message on the dash that the ptu failed which is a common failure on this Jeep. Mine was diagnosed by a local dealership. They informed me that the ptu ws determined to be ok, and the transmission control module was actually at fault. After waiting for the part, which wasn't available due to the stellantis strike. When I was waiting for the parts to come in, the dealer said I could drive the Jeep since it was electronic part failure and as long as I didn't engage the 4-wh. Dr. To power the rear wheels, it would be ok to drive. When the tcm was received, I dropped the Jeep off for service. The part was replaced, error cleared, and test driven by the technician. The error message immediately returned. At this point, the technician decided to do a visual inspection of the drivetrain. He found the rear differential cracked all the way around, and all fluids had leaked out. If the rear differential had locked up or cv snapped off due to lack of lubrication, it could have caused a serious, possibly deadly accident. I feel the technician should have performed a complete inspection of the driveline first, before trusting the computer to correctly diagnose the problem. After talking to other Jeep Cherokee trailhawk owners, it appears they had similar situations with the rear differential splitting open much too often for a front wheel drive midsize SUV.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 mph, the transmission erroneously shifted from 4wd to 2wd, and the vehicle would no longer accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. After pulling off the roadway and restarting the vehicle, the vehicle remained in 2wd with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that later while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission control module (tcm) message displayed. On another occasion while driving approximately 25 mph, the transmission message displayed, and the transmission erroneously shifted to reverse, and the vehicle would only operate in reverse. The vehicle was towed to the local mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 36,000.
Urgent: date of near life & death situation. 10-6-2023. This 2019 kl Cherokee lost accelerating power while in heavy traffic. As the car was losing speed the "d" drive indicator on center dash started flashing a moments later 2 messages displayed: msg 1: service transmission restart in park with vehicle @ zero speed. Msg 2: shift to park or neutral press brakes and select gear. (center dash is the screen between tachometer and speedometer) followed instructions, turned key to off position for a few seconds then started engine placed shifter in drive, accelerated engine to 2000 rpms, car failed to move. Turned key off a second time, waited about 18 seconds for the mileage readout to clear then another 6 seconds (+-) for the outline light bars for the center screen to clear. Then when started it engaged a drive gear. Even in residential areas there are large trash trucks and large delivery trucks hurrying about, added to this vehicle faulting in roadway much less a center lane on the interstate with no time to pull out of traffic. Don't trust the car seat and booster seat even with air bags to save your children. Action is required to remove these vehicles from service after it has been proven the manufacturer cannot supply the dealership with a successful repair for a well documented failure of a common safety hazard in many of their vehicles. The dealership did not duplicate the problem but did confirm all of the information supplied them matched with the faults stored in pcm memory. Not being able to duplicate leaves the technician with just an image of the perils these faults puts the operator and public in, catastrophic. No specific component could be proven at fault, with vehicle operating normal. After a diagnostic fault code retrieval the option was to allow them to spend maximum 6 hours in electrical testing to verify integrity of electrical connections and components. Trust and confidence in an organizations leadership to accept responsibility for mistakes.
1st repair attempt: on April 2, 2021, 14 days after I purchased the vehicle (purchase date: 3/18/2021), I received multiple error messages stating "service electronic parking break" "service anti lock breaking system" "service park brake" "mil" light was blinking "cel" light was on as well and my vehicle would not accelerate. I was on a high traffic interstate and could not move the vehicle to exit to the shoulder. The dealer stated that my pcm/tcm needed to be "flashed" and my abs module needed to be replaced due to a csn w20, w84 and w80 code. The part to replace the abs module was not in stock and my vehicle remained with the dealership until April 16, 2021 (a total of 15 days) 2nd repair attempt: on may 21, 2021, 35 days after the repair attempt, for the 2nd time I received multiple error messages stating "service electronic parking break" "service anti lock breaking system" "service park brake" "mil" light was blinking "cel" light was on as well and my vehicle would not accelerate. My children were in the car when this happened. The dealer once again, for the 2nd time, had to order an abs module as well as reprogrammed according to all manufacturer recommendations (pcm/tcm/dtcm, etc) and my vehicle remained at the dealership until June 1, 2021 (a total of 12 days) 3rd repair attempt: on October 6, 2022, for the 3rd time I received multiple error messages stating "service electronic parking break" "service anti lock breaking system" "service park brake" "mil" light was blinking "cel" light was on as well and my vehicle would not accelerate. I was in the middle of a busy interstate when this happened. My vehicle remained at the manufacturer approved dealership in repair until October 27, 2022 ( a total of 21 days) all receipts, invoices and services completed to attempt repair are documented and can be provided upon request. Most recently, August 10, 2023, all of the same error messages and issues above are occurring and I am unable to move my vehicle.
I believe my pcm went bad.
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while her husband was driving, the vehicle locked up. While attempting to accelerate, it failed to drive above 25 mph. 2/14/23 dash flashes “put car in park”; battery symbol illuminates, gear shift ‘d’ lit up. Coasted to the shoulder, put car in park, engine was not running. I hit the “start” button. The engine starts up, I put it into drive, and pull onto the road. This repeats 2 more times. 2/20/23 car serviced at Chrysler dealership - service report said updated pcm 181906el module. Ecu from old part number 68493558ad to current part number 68493558ag. 3/7/23 - vehicle lost power. Coasted to nearest driveway to turn off the main road. No power steering, car was successful moved out of traffic, put in park, and then the engine was restarted. 3/9/23mileage in 22536; replaced module - engine controller, crankshaft position sensor, wit all wheel drive, powertrain/engine control. 3/23/23 vehicle returned mileage 22562. 4/4/23, driving freeway, vehicle started decelerate on its own, maneuvered to the shoulder and put it into park. There were no lights or indicators on the dash to say there was a problem. Car did not stall. Returned to the roadway and maintained speed. Approx 22980 miles on the vehicle, cruise control was on 77. The vehicle started slowed to 68 mph, maneuvered to the shoulder; did not lose power; put car in park. Traffic cleared to re-enter the roadway. Next 30 minutes, problem repeated. Did not have anyone behind me so I wanted to see at what point would I lose power, or warning lights come on. Cruise set at 77, the car reduced speed on its own to 64 mph. The car acted like it was changing gears a few times, lurching, then picked up speed to 80 mph, then slowed back to the setting of 77. This happened 3 more times. 4/6/23, 23381 miles on the vehicle, driving 45 mph, w/out cruise control. Vehicle began to decelerate, I tried to accelerate to keep up with traffic. The vehicle continued to decelerate down to 36 mph when it kicked back into gear and picked back up to 45 mph. 4/10/23 back to dealer @ 23,608.

The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 65 mph and releasing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle made abnormal banging sounds and lunged forward. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the tcm software update was completed under a recall; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer, huntington - ram (5080 e jericho turnpike, commack, NY 11725), where the tcm software update was completed; however, the failure persisted. Additionally, the contact stated that the rpms revved up to 5,000 while in adaptive cruise control mode. The contact shifted into gears, and the vehicle responded as needed. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that he would need to leave the vehicle at their possession for diagnostics tests. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the tcm software update was the adequate remedy. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.
W84 powertrain software- July 30 2022 jerry seiner casa grande dealership technicians inspected and reprogram the pcm and tcm software and closed the recall but 2 months later all the lights on my dashboard came on check engine light service shifter park brake etc. I went back to the dealership and the advisor told me to go to the dealership where I bought it from. I ended up going to larry miller Chrysler Jeep avondale in arizona. The vehicle was braking on its own while driving high speeds on the highway and while driving I almost crashed. My vehicle was in and out of the dealership many times and the technicians didnt seem to know what was wrong with the vehicle. Almost 6 months after the initial problem it seems its fixed. 01/13/2023 was the last time I had to return because the dashboard lights were turning on after driving the vehicle an estimate of 100 miles.
When driving my Jeep the dashboard will randomly give me a warning to service my shifter and all of the lights on shifter will go red. I have to turn my Jeep off and back on for the lights to go back to normal. I have had to replace the power transfer unit due to the 4 wheel drive not working anymore. I took my car into the dealership to the pcm w84 recall and two weeks later my transmission fluid exploded and the engine was smoking. Had to replace the heat ignition coil and the inlet hose. Paid $2,000 to repair and a week later my check engine light came on and now my car is overheating. Took it to the dealer and they added coolant and said it was an air bubble in the coolant. A couple of days later the issue happened again, took it in two more times and they filled the coolant, but now saying that the cylinder head gasket needs to be replaced which is another $1,700.
Vehicle loses power sometimes when the gear shift is d position of the 9 speed automatic transmission. This has happened 3 times in one week. The saftey concern is that two of those times were while crossing a busy intersection. A certified dealer reprogrammed the pcm this week(I paid for the service) but I believe the manufacturer is aware of this problem but my Jeep Cherokee VIN is not on a recall list. The service transmission warning appeared after the first malfunction. I have only driven it home from the dealership so am not sure the problem is solved. However, the warning light did not come on. I am sure many Jeep Cherokees were recalled for this problem but my VIN is not included yet.
Driving with 5 year old grandson when vehicle violently began shifting into park. Dash panel warning said to shift into park before selecting desired gear. This happened multiple times while in traffic, almost causing us to be rear-ended. Gear shift changes became violent as if we were being rear-ended as vehicle slammed into gear. Car shut down several times. Problem re-occurred in July when driving my 97 year old father on the 495 beltway (after dealership charged $1,100 for replacing tcm and reprogram). This time car bucked and message came up on dash display to shift into park before selecting desired gear. Car did this 4 times while driving causing great risk because car had shifted into neutral and would not go unless stopped and placed back into park. Now dealership saying no codes and wanting to change rear diff on a guess.
While driving at 55mph. The vehicle shutoff and would not restart. Very dangerous to lose power at that speed. Engine light came on and stayed on. Vehicle would not restart. Engine codes read high voltage on pcm modules, brake modules, automatic transmission modules.
Unknown. While driving one day the traction light and check engine light came on and then the 2014 Jeep Cherokee sport SUV started shifting gears funny like on delay mode. Engine tach gauge showed engine was reving higher then normal but the vehicle wasnt moving any faster. Then when taking off from a standstill at a light the SUV shifted like it was stuck on first and then jerked when it finally shifted up to next gear. Took it to oriellys to have them hook up the scan tool and it read tcm - gear jerked while in neutral type of code.
Recall was issued stating transmission would shift into neutral while driving. Recall was performed and vehicle is still shifting into neutral just like before the recall was performed. (recall v69 reprogram tcm 18v69182).
Took Jeep in for recalls in 2021 for powertrain software update (tcm module and pcm module) & and safety recall in regards to ptu. Received a call from my mechanic today in regards to issues regarding codes for these things. I had noticed that since I had took my car in a year ago my Jeep just did not seem the same. Never thought anything of it until I needed my brakes changed now and wanted someone else who I actually could trust to take a look.

So I took vehicle in for recall because transmission was getting stuck in neutral and I wanted them to reprogram tcm for update to see if that helped. He stated that no recall was needed but he replaced tcm which is costing me 1500. 00. If they couldn't reprogram tcm am I paying for a replacement?.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that at start-up, the "transmission, service required" warning message appeared on the instrument panel. The contact proceeded to drive the vehicle with the warning message displayed and while driving 25 mph, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to park the vehicle and had it towed to an independent mechanic. The mechanic could not diagnose the failure and had to tow the vehicle to another independent mechanic who was also unable to diagnose cause of the failure. The manufacturer was then notified of the failure and acknowledged that the failure was a known issue; however, there were no recalls on the VIN. Upon investigation, the contact linked her failure to a defective pcm (powertrain control module). The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.
2015 Jeep Cherokee limited. While driving the vehicle, lost power abruptly and without warning in traffic on 5 occasions between may 2021 and July. Car towed and taken to dealership each time with repair notations indicating short in pdc causing fuse for ignition coils to blow. That was replaced. An additional note when the car failed again indicated an internal short in pcm which was replaced. I've spent thousands of dollars, not to mention the safety issue of stalling in traffic. The last time, I was on a very busy freeway and didn't have enough power to fully move to the shoulder. I counted about 3 near misses with cars about to hit me. I don't have every *invoice* as they didn't return them all to me but will upload what I do have. This is a serious issue and I'm not getting any resolution with the dealership.
While driving my Jeep suddenly shut off. This happened twice, so I took it to liberty Jeep in libertyville. I was told that they would need to do a pcm reprogram and that it will now burn 1 quart of oil per every 1000 miles and that I would need to keep an eye on it to continue to top of the oil so the Jeep doesn't shut down. This is not acceptable for a dealership to say. I am fearful of driving long distance on highways with this now and would like to get out of this lease. I have attempted to discuss with the dealership and I haven't had any luck. Owner or managers do not return any emails or phone call. This is very disturbing.
Hello, in March I received a performed recall w84 for my 2017 Jeep Cherokee. A recall w84 the pcm and tcm modules. Since then I have had on the cluster a warning light which came on stating 'service shifter'. When this happened, all the lights on the shifter turned red. This happened when driving. This was a intermittent issue that was becoming more consistent. I went to mckevitt for reparation. It costed me $735! $360 for diagnosis, $120 for parts and $235 for labor!.
In October of 2020 while driving on the highway my Jeep shut off and lost all motive and electric power. The steering wheel locked up and the brakes applied themselves. My wife was driving, doing about 40-45mph. A message came up that said put vehicle in park and turn off. After doing so my wife was able to turn the vehicle back on and get home safely. We took our Jeep into to be looked at by the dealership. They said they found a code for low voltage but the battery was good, just loose connections. . No other codes were present. They also stated that they found loose grohnd cables to the chassis and pcm, both were tightened. On 11/18/2020 after filling my gas tank, I turned on to the frontage road and my jee again lost all power. Gave me a message that vehicle must be stopped before shifting gears.
Vehicle spontaneously shifted into neutral while driving in the morning of 11/3/2020 to work. I had just gone up a small hill into my work parking lot and was going 10mph or less. I had just begun to press on the brake to slow before turning into a parking space when I felt my vehicle lose power. I immediately stopped the vehicle and shifted it into park, my car stalled so I turned the ignition and restarted my car. When I shifted it into drive and began to release my foot of the brake I felt the car slightly roll back before the gear shifted into drive. I parked my car and went into work. After online research, there was a recall (Chrysler recall no. V69) on 2014 Jeep Cherokee suvs with a 3. 6l engines with the same issue regarding the transmission software. My vehicle is a 2. 4l engine but had the same exact pattern as listed by other owners such as recently filling up the gas tank and it giving a warning on the dashboard screen but having no warning lights or other indicators that there was an issue. I took my vehicle to a Jeep dealership on 11/4/2020 and had the software updated. Upon closer inspection by the dealership they concluded that the transmission needs a full replacement. I have contacted Jeep directly and they have stated there was an extended warranty on (x80- 9spd transmission) that expired in August of 2020. I never received notification of this, or of the need to update the tcm or pcm.
Our mileage/odometer is flashing and states TSB. The tcm has been reprogrammed 3-4 times and still malfunctioning. Electrical issues through out cause stereo to not turn on sometimes and the all the sudden turn on its own. We have made complaints to the Jeep and they said the recall have already been done they wont help us and then close our case with out any solutions. We have already spent 2000 or more fixing issues that don't help the problem. We completely replaced the shifter and the whole assembly that goes with it. We have had a quick learn done to the transmission. We still had codes popping for the tcm prior to the shifter going out. We have had codes come up for the drive train and where told that recall was already done and we still have issues. We are at a loss here and dont know what else to do. We have only got this car a little over a year ago and have reported problems since day one.
Following transmission related recalls r01, s55, u63, v69, and the latest one in August 2020 w47- the transmission will shift into neutral with out warning in motion. The dealership attempted to reprogram and replace the tcm at no resolve. Jeep has been contacted and responded with a "no goodwill" approach, as in not assisting in any way.
The safety recall to reprogram the transmission control module was completed on 9/4/19. My vehicle worked properly until August 2020 and has returned to lthe same issue I had beforw the recall was completed. The Jeep loses power when braking to below 20 mph but not coming to a complete stop & pressing the accelerator. There is a second or 2 delay before the car will accelerate, then a hard shift as if the car has gone into gear.
