Our service shifter light started coming on periodically at around 20k miles. It has happened no less that 10 times now. This is problematic since it will happen while driving and the powertrain will shift into neutral causing the driver to have to pull over while in traffic. I talked to the Jeep dealer who said this is out of the bumper to bumper 3 year/36k warranty and not covered by the powertrain warranty. Service shifter light came on and gear shift lights are all red,p,r,n,d.

Several dashboard warning lights lit up at the same time (with alarms sounding continuously): check engine; parking brake; service airbag system, traction control off, seatbelt warning gear indicator lights were all on at the same time: p, r, n. D and the manual shift +/- indicator (all lit red) the transmission would not shift (out of what felt like 3rd gear) while driving down the freeway. A few times, the transmission would not shift out of neutral, and I could not get the car to move (after coming to a stop) on the off ramp and on the side streets. Key fob would not lock or unlock the doors or set the alarm.

Our 2019 Jeep Cherokee limited has just over 12k miles. The instrument cluster (dashboard, radio screen display, and gear shift lights) go black or dark grey, and we have nothing displayed - speedometer, gas gauge, climate controls, messages, or any other safety information. We are just driving along, and the instrument cluster just quits working. This has happened four times now. Three times the display came back on after several minutes, once after stopping the car and restarting, while one other time it did not work again until we started the car the next morning. This is a serious safety issue, because we are driving without any vital information. We have taken our Jeep to two different dealerships who did not fix the issue because they said there were no error codes displayed. They stated we would need the Jeep at their dealership indefinitely and they would need to drive it every day until it happened while at the dealership. We even pointed out to the dealerships that there was already a recall on 2019 Jeep Cherokees for the instrument cluster failing, but they said ours was not one of the Jeeps in the recall. If you google "2019 Jeep Cherokee dashboard display problems" or something similar, you will find dozens of complaints about this issue.

I have a 2018 Jeep Cherokee. The service shifter keeps coming on and all the gear shift lights are lit up. The car will stall or completely stop operating when this occurs. It occurs when I am driving in city traffic, highway traffic or stationary.

Gear shift error lights! while driving all the service shifter lights came on. Pulled over to shut off the car and the lights went off. When I picked up to speed the lights came back. The car shuts off when turning and started jerking with take off. Once the power shuts off the car didn't want to start and turned over until it caught on. I drive around a large city with lots of highways for a living and I am afraid the car may loss power in traffic! this issue has been happening since summer 2020.

The �service shifter � icon was illuminated as well as the gear selector indicator lights. This is the second time this has happened. After reviewing web sites this is an inherent problem with the Jeep Cherokees.

Upon starting Jeep received message "service shifter" and all the gear indicator lights are lit and message center is inoperative except for that message. Shutting car off and restarting resets, only to come back after a few starts. Jeep dealership charges $145 to tell you what needs to be replaced but is not sure if that will fix problem. Multiple complaints regarding this issue with 2016-2018 Jeep Cherokee's but car is past 36 month warranty period even though it only has 14,500 miles on it, Jeep will not repair at n/c. With the amount of complaints I have read for same issue, why isn't a recall in order ? apparently, if you don't get it fixed, somewhere down the road, the vehicle may become inoperable, or will not shift to park. The temporary fix appears to be , shut the car off, and restart. Not a very good thing.

The notice for service shifter come's on, all the lights on the gear selector light up. You can't tell which gear the car is in. This notice shows in the instrument cluster, where the speed odometer is. This has happened on and off for 6 to 8 months, the dealership found nothing. This happens while driving and just starting the vehicle.

While the car was moving the service gear shift warming came on and all the gear lights where on. . Transmission issue continue when putting the car in drive it jerks very hard or when you press the gas the car jerks violently.

When the vehicle is moved from park to any other gear, all gear indicator lights, light up as well as a message displaying "service transmission shifter". This seems to be a very common issue that nobody can seem to get a straight answer as to how to correct the issue.

When I start my car the display on the dashboard shows 'service shifter' and all the gear name lights on the shifter light up red. The failure recurred while driving at an unknown speed. The dealer was not called. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall and referred the contact to the NHTSA. My 2014 2. 4l Jeep Cherokee is shifting out of gear when making a turn and looses power. When it shifts out of gear (or into neutral) the gear shift light will come on. The gear shiftier will not have moved and still be in drive! engine has to be shut off and then I have to try about three time to get it to start again, and it will not start up like normal. It starts up like it is trying to get the engine motivated into movement. When I am able to restart the Jeep the gear shift light will no longer be on. It is the second time to happen in a week.

I was simply driving down the road at aprox 30 mph. I heard a ding looked at my dash and service shifter soon notice was on my dash. Looked down at gear shift all lights where red p r n d +. . I pulled over left the vehicle running and shifted it to park. All lights and the service shifter soon notice remained. I turned off vehicle for 5-10 minutes. Started again and warning message was gone. Lights on gear shift returned to normal only lighting up the gear the vehcle was actually in. There was no warning prior to this occurrence. Vehicle made no unusual sounds, no shifting funny, no issues going into gear. Nothing completely out of the blue.

The �service shifter� comes on and all of the gears light up. The car has a smell of antifreeze but no indication of the car running hot. The warning goes away after restarting the car. This happens while the car is in motion.

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle stalled with the instrument panel indicating shift to park and shift to desire gears. The failure recurred numerous times. The contact also stated that while entering a driveway or while in reverse and also while driving the vehicle would start to shake and jerk violently. The contact also mentioned that the steering wheel locked up and pulled to the left while her daughter was driving. The instrument panel indicated shift to park and shift to desire gears and also indicated service transmission and also service brakes. The contact powered off the vehicle and restarted the vehicle, shifted out of neutral then into park before selecting drive. The vehicle drove normal to half a block before the failure recurred. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to spirit automotive Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (4611 avenue q, lubbock, TX 79412), but was not diagnosed. The mechanic updated the transmission control software under NHTSA campaign number: 19v447000 (power train). After leaving the dealer, the vehicle started to shake and before reaching her residence the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was restarted, coasted into her driveway and stalled. The contact called an independent mechanic and was advised to contact the manufacturer. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer for them to update the software again. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer but was not diagnosed nor repaired. The technician called the contact and informed her the vehicle was ready for pick up however, the failure recurred. The contact schedule an appointment for a diagnostic test which was still pending. The failure mileage was approximately 97,700.

At about 20k miles, a warning on the display popped up that says, "service shifter" and all of the gear shift lights all lit up. This happened two times, once while the vehicle was in motion and once while it was parked. After those two times, it stopped and didn't happen again until now. The issue has returned at 45k miles and is happening a lot. When it happens while I'm moving, the engine revs up really high. When I'm parked and it happens, I have to turn the vehicle off and back on before I can shift into gear. The dealership has not provided a solution.

While in motion, a service shifter notification pops up. At the same time, all of the gear indicator lights next to the gear shifter light up. Over the past 3 weeks this has happened 4 times, 2 of which have occurred in the past 2 days and 66 miles apart. I've attached photos of the notifications from the 2 most recent occurrences, along with a photo of the illuminated gear indicators. A quick internet search revealed this is a very common issue with this vehicle with hundreds of complaints across various Jeep forums.

Right when my vehicle hit 25,000 miles, I noticed that on the highway while in motion the service shifter light came on and gear shift lights all in red, p,r,n,d. You shut the engine off and all turn off then when you start driving again they'll do the same. It'll stop for a few days and then start again. Finally took it to the dealership it ended up begin wires and a shifter harness. A lot of Jeep Cherokee 2017-2019 owners are experiencing the same thing right around the same miles. This needs to become a recall.

Service shifter light came on and gear shift lights are all red,p,r,n,d during motor operations turning/pulling into my neighborhood. Approx. Speed was less than 20 mph. Upon shifting to park and turning the vehicle off and then back on the error message disappears and shifter lights are no longer red. Has happened three (3) weeks in a row on wed, wed, and tues at approx. 5:45 pm. Service appoint scheduled tomorrow 02/19/20 with the manufacturer. Approx. Mileage on vehicle when error first occurred was 43k. Was told the power train warranty may not cover the issue. Researched online and found numerous individuals expressing the same exact issue, particularly after 36k miles.

Transmission slipped started to slip on my 2019 Jeep Cherokee with 10000 miles. Car is just about brand new and the service transmission/shifter message and check engine light came on as well as all the transmission gear lights are lit.

Have had several issues with this Cherokee, my oil pressure light would come on when I would take sudden turn, I took it in to my local dealer and they stated to start an oil consumption test, it appears the motor equipped in the Cherokee was burning oil and they couldn't determine where the oil was going, also during this time, my �service shifter� light came on my dash and all of the shifter lights would come on at the same time, this would happen periodically, they decided they needed to replace motor due to the oil issue, I asked about the service shifter issue, they stated that they could not find any faults with the service shifter, sure enough 3 weeks later my service shifter light came on again and wouldn't go off, I was unable to tell which gear I was in because of this because of all of the gear lights were on simultaneously, needless to say, the dealer does not have an answer for this issue, I would like to request this issue be documented and repaired or recalled.

While driving and sometimes when turning my car on and putting it in gear all the lights on the gear shifter will come on and it will read a message on the dash "service gear shifter". I will have to come to a stop, put it in park, and shut it off and turn it back on before the message will go away and the lights will go off.

Service shifter warning appeared while driving. All gear indicator lights near shifter illuminated red. This occurred during traffic on highway around 30 mph.

The "service shifter" alarm comes on while I am driving and all the lights on the gear shift light up res. P rdn, all of it. The car still runs. This has happened 8 times now. I pull over and put the car in park, turn it off and turn it back on and it is all okay. The dealer said it just needs an update. Did that the first time it happened but is happening again and again.

Service shifter flashes across dash. All of the gear lights remain lit. Car jerks hard into gear. Car will only move in reverse. I have had several transmission related issues repaired by the Jeep dealership since I purchased the vehicle in June 2017. 6 months after purchase I started having transmission related issues. On 10/25/19, car would no longer shift into drive. I am livid about the situation. While still paying a car note, I'm told I need to pay 5600 for a new transmission.

3-4 months after purchasing my 2015 Jeep Cherokee sport I got a "service shifter soon" message and all the lights on the gear shift lit up. I had the car towed to a dealer and they "fixed" the problem under warranty. Now, out of warranty, the same message and lighting of the gear shift lights is happening again. It usually happens right after starting but has happened while driving a couple of times.

Stopped at a stop sign while driving. All the gear selection lights came on along with "service shifter" message on dash display. I had to shut off engine and restart to get them to turn off. Operated normally after that. Dealer says code reader fault says that shifter wiring harness and bezel have to be replaced. Some type of short in wiring. They say it is not covered by warranty. I see other years of this vehicle have been recalled due to this issue. Not sure why not the 2017.

About a month ago I noticed that when I started my vehicle all the lights lit up red on my gear display on the counsel. I took my vehicle in for an oil change and was told there was a recall that needed performed that had to deal with the computer update for the shifter. The recall was performed on sept. 20. Since this time my dashboard menu has locked itself on � service shifter� in addition to all gears lighting up red, 3 times. Once while I was driving down the interstate at 75 miles an hour. Forcing me to pull over turn off the ignition and restart the vehicle to free my dash so I can even see my speedometer. The other two times occurred when starting my vehicle and putting it in reverse.

In April 2018, my gearshift quit working. I was stationary. It would not shift gears. The lights on the gearshift console all lit up. My car was under warranty as it was only 14 months old at the time. The dealer I purchased from replaced the gearshift. On sept. 18, 2019, the gear shift lights all came on, the car dinged and the dashboard said check gearshift. I am now 49,000 miles and out of warranty. I read online there are many complaints of the gear shift/transmission on Jeeps including mine, a Cherokee.

Beginning at about 19000 miles the gear shift lights would all come on at random times while driving. Stopping the Jeep and switching it off would make the lights go off. At about 90000 miles in addition to the lights coming on the shifter, the dash would light up with "service shifter" message. Once again stopping and turning off the vehicle and restarting as many as 5 times would make the message and lights go off. The vehicle is serviced regularly at the Jeep delearship and was checked several times with no errors showing on computer. After going on line to research this problem, I found numerous websites with people having the same problem and stating that there should be a recall due to the large number of vehicles involved. About 2 months ago the same message and lights came on and it took over 10 minutes of trying to start before I could get the message off and able to put the Jeep into gear to continue on my way home (was over 2 hours from home on this trip). The Jeep dealership ordered parts that they said should fix it (I was originally told that it was not problem as long as it was going off). I spent over $500. 00 getting this fixed. Since this is a recurrent problem with so many people, I believe that there should be a recall to fix the problem. This is also a danger to drivers leaving them stranded beside the road because of this defect. From the on line forums this is a problem with all models and year makes of Jeeps. My Jeep started this problem before the warranty was up (at 19000 miles). However since it was not repaired (and I hope it is) until after the warranty had expired, I had to pay over $500. 00 for what I believe should have been a recall. It took over a month for parts to come to dealership for repair.
