When car was 1 yr old service shifter warning light came on including all gear shift lights lit at same time. Shifter assembly was replaced under warrant. Less than a year later, same issue, assembly replaced again with what I was told was a new part that came out to deal with problem. 2 months later, same problem again. Was explained to me that this is has to do with wiring harness and shifter assembly. All times, this has happened while car was moving.

I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee with 71k miles. For more than 6 months I have noticed that the car takes a lot of effort to speed, and when it does the rpm is so high and it feels that the engine is going to burn out. It is like the gears are stucked. I took it to the dealer and they said that everything was good, except my engine mounts. I changed that; however, the problems continues. 5 days ago I had the service shifter message come up on my screen. It highlighted all my gears lights red and the screen was locked to service shifter. They said that everything was fine, but obviously the car have some issues with the transmission.

Car would not go in gear at stop light. Shuddering and lurched. It felt like we'd been hit. All kinds of lights start flashing (engine transmission key foblicense plate light out, etc) on the dash. Couldn't get to shut off, change gear or any commands. Finally able to get to park to shut off. Restarted and started moving and seemed ok. At the next stoplight it did the same thing. Wouldn't engage in gear then the shudder finally got going and then lost power and slowly stalled. Managed to get to a parking lot and stalled again sitting in idle. After letting sit for 30 minutes or so it started and ran ok. It's like electronic brain went crazy for a bit. We've had issues with the transmission shifting hard or hesitation at lower gears off and on sine we've had it. You have to change driving style and make sure you don't need to make a quick move because you don't know how it will respond. Every time we take it in we're told they did an update to the software and shouldn't have any other issues. At this point I'm scared to drive it!.

Service shifter displays on dash when turning on the car. The gear shift lights all turned red, and there was no ability to switch gears. The vehicle was stationary at the time, and the shifter was reset turning the car on and off.
While moving on a city street, the message "service shifter" appeared on instrument panel and all gear lights on shift console illuminated red. Condition remained until vehicle was stopped and turned off, then back on.
While driving the service shifter light comes on and every light on the gear indicator lights up. Dealer says they do not know. After vehicle has been turned off it went away. Dealer told me we are fine to drive if it doesnt come back.
I was driving home on a major street when the message service shifter popped up on my dashboard. The lights turned red on all gears. I could not see my speed or any other information. My mileage had just read 19141 I believe prior to the screen going to service shifter message. I pulled into a parking lot. I placed the gear into park. I then googled the message, make, and model to find out more information. I found forum on cargurus. Com stating to turn off the vehicle and restart. I waited 10 minutes before turning on the vehicle. When I turned on the vehicle. The message disappeared and the red gear lights turned off.
While driving, the "service shifter" warning light comes on and all gear lights on shifter illuminate. Stopping and restarting the engine temporarily fixes the warning. This has already been "fixed" once by the dealership where it was purchased at considerable cost to us. Now it is happening again.
Service shifter light would appear, this would cause all the lights on my gear shift to light up red as if my Jeep did not know what gear it should be in. This mainly happened when going around a curve. I would have to pull over and cut the vehicle off to make this reset. After reviewing hundreds of complaints about this same issue online, I immediately had this addressed at the Jeep dealership. They were able to fix the problem for me which was not a cost friendly repair. The wiring-shifter jumper and bezel kit-shifter had to be replaced. Considering this is an issues with thousands of vehicles it would be great to see a recall so that people feel safe while driving.

"service shifter" error came on screen and all of the gear lights beside the shifter lit up. After turning vehicle off and driving again later, error disappeared.
Several times upon starting the vehicle up in the 3 months since I have owned it, the display in the instrument cluster reads "service shifter" and all lights for the gear selector light up red. The vehicle will not go into gear until the engine is shut off and restarted.
While driving on the interstate I-20 my vehicle was in drive and all the lights on the gear shift came on (see photos attached) and my dashboard reflected service shifter light came on and gear shift lights are all red,p,r,n,d on 4/18/2019. I panicked because I was out of state in augusta, GA but lives in madison, al. I was stressed and pulled over to google this to see if there were instructions to follow. According to the dealership in marietta, GA ed voyles they never heard of such a complaint. How many complaints have to be done before this becomes a recall.
While stop at a light the Jeep stalled out with check engine light, parking gear light, and road hazard light came on. Then when I put it in park and back in gear it jerked badly as if the engine came out and bunny hop as it took off like some one learning to drive a standard. Some times while driving it roughly shifts into 2nd. And it stalled once on a major highway which is dangerous.
Check engine light comes on, codes are u1504, u1412, u0001, u1110, u1120, will not shift, 4wd temporary unavailable message comes on , stability traction light comes on, all shifter gear lights are on, this had happened 7 times since I purchased this Jeep, engine has cut a couple of times during all of these issues!.
I had an issue with the service shifter light coming on at around 15,000 miles and it was replaced under warranty. Fast forward now I am at 33,000 miles and the problem showed up again. Service shifter light comes on and and the gear light light up red. You either have to drive like that of turn off the vehicle and restart. It pops up randomly with no rhyme or reason. I contacted the dealer and they said they don't have any recalls on the shifter(yes the shifter has to be replaced) and that I will have to pay for the replacement because the last one was only good for a year. I feel after reading how many vehicles this has happened to there might be a flaw in the shifter.
While driving my dash will suddenly state "service shifter" and all my gear shifter lights will be lit up. The only way I get them off is I have to pull over, stop, turn vehicle off, and restart it. This has happen in town and on the highway. This has happened now several times over approximately 4 months now. The first time being when I got my first oil change.
An alert message reads "service shifter" across dash message center while driving. . The gear shift will light up every gear and neither clear off unless I pull over and kill the engine. The message does not store in the "error message" reporting system and I have been told from the dealership I purchased from as well as another that there is no recall and nothing can be done since the message isn't stored. I'm reading reports of these make/models locking up the steering and causing crashes.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the transmission gears slipped without warning when the vehicle was started. While the vehicle was idling at a stop, a warning indicator near the gear box indicated that the gear was shifted when it really was not. In addition, the vehicle randomly stalled several times intermittently. The contact was uncertain if the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 16v529000 (power train). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
I bought my car 3/21/2017 and I've loved it up until the recent problems. Since June/2019 when I make a left turn all of the lights on my gear shifter light up and a display of "service shifter" pops up and the only way to clear it is to pull over, turn the car off and start it up. At first it happened randomly, but now it more frequent. I purchased an extended warranty and they told me there is nothing wrong, but now an additional issue has started. Sometimes when all the lights appear when I'm make a turn or getting on the highway even, I've almost been rear ended multiple times because now the car will just shut off!! this is scary and unsafe, but it is my only means of transportation and yes all of my regular maintenance is up to date as well.
Service shifter prompt, all lights on gear shifter light up at the same time, sometimes will not let me shift, sometimes does not effect driving but will not go away until car is parked and turned off for a period of time.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. While driving various speeds, the gear shifter indicator illuminated and the emergency brake engaged independently. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed that the tied wire harness was hanging from the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred several times. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to get a rental vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. While driving various speeds above 30 mph, the vehicle failed to shift correctly and moved sluggishly. The service shifter message displayed and the gear shifter indicator illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred several times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was recently serviced per NHTSA campaign number: 16v529000 (power train) at auto plaza Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram DE soto (located at 128/30 mo-21, DE soto, mo 63020, (636) 337-7777). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 39,500.
Transmission locks into gear during light throttle or no throttle loads repeatedly. Happens on downhill driving or at a red light/stop sign. Car has no power and has to be driven off to the side to reset computer or left sitting in an intersection while waiting for a tow truck (one time). Dealer is aware of the issue and is replacing parts from the computer to a complete transmission now. Wife feels unsafe in what should be a brand new problem free car.
Have experienced horrible shifting problems since I drove the 2014 Jeep Cherokee trailhawk off the lot. Jerks forward from stop and at different gear changes. Believe this will cause additional damage to already poor performing transmission. Hesitates gear change some times when on highway that could be dangerous. Two days ago started vehicle and placed in reverse. Jeep slammed into gear and engine light came on. Light saying to put vehicle back on park came on. I did this and then put the vehicle back into drive. Pressed gas and vehicle went backwards. Had to be towed to the dealer. Dealer is still evaluating vehicle and has done a software update. I asked about the jerky shifting and they are saying it is normal for the vehicle. They are being slammed with customer complaints about transmission problems according to the service department rep. Calling an improperly performing transmission normal because its happening to most of these vehicles is not acceptable. This is an expensive vehicle and never should have been sold under these conditions. Others should know what they are getting into by purchasing one of these and Jeep needs to rectify this situation immediately.
Very harsh gear engagement while vehicle is in motion. Significant lag before downshift, followed by a harsh gear engagement and the loss of control when vehicle finally accelerates at a high rate. Whole car shakes violently with 1-2 and 2-3 shift. Transmission holds gear while on slight inclines with moderate throttle.
2 issues. (1)) transmission doesn't shift properly. Coming from a higher speed and break ie slowing down and then accelerating there is a delay. The Jeep doesn't know what gear to be in. I have been almost rear ended, honked at, swerved around because the Jeep won't speed up properly. (2) gear shifter lights don't function properly. The gear shifter was already replaced once under factory warranty and the same issue has happened again.
Service shifter warning came on on all gear indicators lit up.
