At slow speed while accelerating from a stop, the transmission shifted abruptly and caused the vehicle to jerk. In addition there is a loud crunch. Bang or clunk noise that made me feel like another car had rear ended me. The dealer updated the computer but it did not fix the issue.

The vehicle was in motion. The vehicle made a notification on the cluster saying 4wd system unavailable, service required. The vehicle then began to shift ruff and the only way you could get it to point a to b is if as soon as you started it you put it in sports mode. The vehicle went into the shop on 10-15-2020 and came out of the shop on 12-4-2020 due to them not being able to get the part which was a power transfer unit. The part got delayed multiple times. After I got the car back on the 4th it started making a rattling noise from the front end like something was loose. I messaged the mechanic and advised him of the issue and he told me to take it in the following day and he would look at it. Unfortunately he got sick and I finally got back ahold of him on Monday the 7th to look at it. He said it seems like something is out of torque and that he would get ahold of me the following day to bring it in so I could have a loaner vehicle. I have since heard from him. My car also made an error code of auto start/stop system not responding yesterday the 10th of December which I notified the mechanic and have yet to get a response.

Purchased 75,000 mile warranty with tob. Around 30,000 motor replaced. Oil consumption. Nc. Had it at midas at 67,584 miles because of unusual noises in the front end. Was determined to be the drivetrain. Advised me to check with tom o'brien Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep ram in greenwood indiana that it might be under warranty. Had it there twice, midas greenwood twice and fletcher Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep ram in franklin indiana twice. Each made repairs to it costing me $595 total in out-of-pocket deductibles. Billing to warranty company: midas $1933. 57, fletcher $618 and tob $2267 which is "the mechanic" (mechanical repair service contract) tel # 800-621-2130. Contract # gw227456. The vehicle had these issues of unusual noises on rough pavement, wandering when taking off from stop going thru shifting gears moving from right to left then back to straight then going back to the right every time on shifting. At 75,000 miles the warranty ran out and up to that time "none" of the companies figured it out nor fixed it. We were told that the lemon law didn't apply. So now at 80194 miles it's so bad that it's untrustworthy and it's getting worse by the day. I can't find anybody to fix it especially now that the warranty is out and the only place that we can trade it is back at tob which we will never buy another product from them. I have all the receipts for all repairs made that did not fix it. So we are stuck. Can't fix it nor trade and get a good price for it.

The transmission has major operating issues. I am experiencing hard shifts, delays in power at start and in middle of turns. Most seriously now the transmission completely stopped working all together out of the blue. I was sitting at a red light and when the light turned green it had no power and I heard a grinding noises from transmission.
I took my 2014 Jeep Cherokee in for a recall notice to have shift points changed. Upon receiving the vehicle back I noticed a thumping noise whenever the vehicle was not excelerating. I contacted the dealership to inform them the recall didnt work, took the vehicle back to have it looked at. Was informed that a new power transfer unit (ptu) needed to be installed and that it had nothing to do with the recall. I was informed the 5 year warranty had expired in April of 2019 even though the vehicle only had 69500 miles on it. After two week of the vehicle being in the shop I contacted them and was told that a new transmission needed to be installed and it wasn't the ptu. I had the repairs made only to find out a "certified" used transmission was installed and has to be returned as there is a hesitation between shift between 2 and 3 gear.

Several times within the past 2 months, including today; when driving more than 25-35 miles there will be a "service shifter" notification and the associated 'ding' noise notification that comes on. This notification blocks any action on the screen between the speedometer and rpm monitor and only successfully goes away when turning the Jeep completely off. This happens while in motion, particularly on highways, and seems to happen more often if I have used or am using cruise control on the trip. It also illuminates all of the lights on the shifter (pnrd +/-). It seems that this could potentially cause a more serious issue with shifting, cause me to become stranded, or become dangerous for myself and other drivers.
Bought this car at 17k miles and now have 50k. 10k before the warranty runs out and dealer will only address this issue if the vehicle will show this issue at the time it is at the dealer. Issue is unpredictable. Car jerks hard from first to second gear, almost as if you have been rear ended. Car has trouble shifting to higher speed upon entering the highway. There is also a pronounced "ticking" noise when engine is running/idle.
On 7/19/19 - once car placed into gear, it barely moved 5 mph. Loud noise during shift of gear. Service transmission light came on. Placed car in park and had towed to dealer. Dealer said. . The batter was low. However, the battery was last replaced 7/13/18 (1 year ago). I haven't picked the car up yet as I'm concerned this isn't the real issue.
Takata recall:the car doesn't shift properly, the car takes forever to drive forward and makes a loud noise when reversing. I've had the vehicle for 8 months. Sometimes it goes up to a high rpm before it shifts to the speed it needs to be at. The car doesn't take off fast enough. (approximately 12 seconds to go from 0-60mph) I was driving on the freeway when the car suddenly entered limp mode and the check engine light was on.
This vehicle seems to accelerate without me doing anything when in motion. Shift services light comes on frequently. When you turn the car on the car accelerates or seems to stall. Engine when the car is stationary. It makes an excessive noise when you accelerate in motion.
Started out when going over a bump slow you heard a grinding noise, now when it shifts into first at a stop the transmission has a clicking noise and also surges and shifts hard.

Car has 22,000 miles on it. Was driving and the car made a beep noise and a message popped up on the screen saying "service shifter" and if you look down at the shift, all of the gears are lit up red indicating that all of the shifts are on. However I have noticed it typically only comes on whenever I have my air conditioning on. I have had it do this around 17 times starting when the car hit 20,000 miles. It does not affect driving abilities.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that when attempting to shift into park, the gear shifted into other gears instead of park. After the gear finally engaged in park, the vehicle moved in reverse. The contact had to get back inside the vehicle and shift the vehicle in park. In addition, the vehicle made an abnormal chiming noise and "place in park" appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to m and l motors Chrysler Jeep and Dodge (406 piedmont dr, lexington, nc 27295, (336) 295-1329), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was called and transferred the contact to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was 88,000.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, and when exiting the vehicle, the vehicle independently shifted into neutral with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that she heard an abnormal noise but was able to park. The contact waited for 15 minutes before restarting the vehicle and driving to her destination. The vehicle was taken to mount airy Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram fiat located at 538 n andy griffith pkwy, mt airy, nc 27030, (336) 789-8105 however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 16v529000 (power train), however the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
The vehicle is sluggish along with making noises when automatically shifting gears when driving between 20 and 50 mph.
While engaged, automatic transmission experiences delayed, or sudden shifting, causing a grinding noise or thud sound during shifting. Alternatively, there appears to be a harsh engagement of gears or reduced power when the vehicle shifts into gear.
I purchased my vehicle new. Since having it the panel which displays the radio will randomly go black. I've also had several issues with acceleration. Sometimes if I'm at a red light and then it turns green the car will rev and not move anywhere for about 30 seconds. Yesterday while I was on the highway my speed dropped from 60 to 40 very fast and I was not able to accelerate at all and had to pull over on the side of the road and my transmission light came on. I've also been driving before and when I hit the brake it makes a noise like its shifting super loud and the brake clicks. My vehicle is in for service right now but I dont feel safe driving it at all. It only has 16,000 miles on it and shouldn't be having all of these issues with such low mileage. Yesterday not being able to accelerate on the highway was scary and dangerous.
Vehicle was not shifting correctly from 1st to 2nd gear. . . There was a loud thud when putting vehicle in reverse. . . . Dealer is replacing the transmission. Vehicle has been down 3 weeks, no information. The passenger door lock button doesn't work. Center console is loose. The sunroof shade is wrinkling when it goes back, the sunroof makes a popping noise occasionally when it's opened. The ac stopped working all together, or will trickle out. The tires are very wobbly and noisy.
Automatic transmission exhibits odd behavior from the day of delivery of this new car,Jeep service says nothing is wrong; clunking noise when lightly tapping the accelerator, rough shifting, when letting foot of the accelerator vehicle doesn't slow down and takes long time before it does, it feels like it is coasting instead of slowing when it finally downshifts it speeds up on its own and then slowly decelerates.
9-speed auto transmission which mine has rough, delayed or sudden shifting or failure to shift conditions with grinding or other loud noise during shifting harsh engagement of gears; sudden or harsh acceleration/deceleration; sudden loss of power; premature transmission wear or failure.
The transmission shifts hard and sometimes skips gears. It will shift very late and do a jolt and it feels likes I was hit by another car, gives a slight whiplash feeling to the passengers. Sometimes when I go from reverse to drive the back wheels lock up and the back half of the car lowers to the ground while the front of the vehicle rises. The vehicle also sometimes accelerates on its' own when I don't have my foot on the gas. I can be driving at any point around 20-30mph and my rpms will jump to 3000+ and the engine makes loud noises like it is being overworked to go 20 mph and it will stay like that for a good 4-8 seconds. All of these problems have drastically decreased the mpg my car gets. All of these problems are when the car is in motion. The "start/stop" feature also has many problems. If I forget to turn it off I can be at a red light and once it turns green I let go of the brake and go to hit the gas and the car is still in the process of starting back up, takes anywhere between 1-3 seconds to startup. This has almost caused me to get into several accidents. I don't feel safe in this car anymore. It was fine up until about 30,000 miles, but it has gone down hill since then. I am at about 45,000 miles right now.
Bought car new from an authorized Jeep dealer. Within a couple of months started getting recall notices. The first time, it took a week to re-program the transmission software because the dealer's service department was overwhelmed. No loaner car provided. Was told by dealer that "this is how they work the "bugs" out. "abrupt" gear shifting and "sluggish" performance not resolved. At six (6) months transmission was completely replaced with new unit by a different dealer. Took another week to complete, and as a "warranty claim" no loaner car provided. Was told by dealer that most owners were getting only two (2) more months use out of this model. And, that "Chrysler/Jeep will be happy to get this one back for research and development". "abrupt" gear shifting and "sluggish" performance continued. At 2. 9 years, just before warranty expiration, "check transmission" sensor replaced and reprogrammed. "abrupt" gear shifting and "sluggish" performance not resolved. "growling" and "sighing"noises began just after warranty expiration (9/17) and have become more pronounced. Latest issue is that the transmission seems to "fall out of gear" causing sudden and unexpected stopping of the vehicle when slowing at red light or "stop" sign.
Transmission lurges and roughly shifts and makes whirring noises.
Tl-the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee trail hawk. While driving at various speeds the vehicle shifted from first to third gear. There was an abnormal popping noise, there were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken several times to tri-cities Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram 869 e stone dr, kingsport, TN 37660 (423) 799-3403 who stated they were unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but did not assist, the failure mileage was 71,000. Ap.
The dealership attempted two software updates and told me they couldn't fix it when I went back the third time for the transmission not shifting properly. I also had a clunking noise in the front end that was fixed with the noise returning shortly after the warranty expiring. The vehicle continues to miss downshifts and does not shift properly when trying to accelerate.
Driving about 25 mph and the vehicle shut off. No noises, no warnings just shut off. My dash stated to "shift to park or neutral, press brake + select gear" also my drive light was flashing red by the shifter. I was lucky there was no traffic and I was able to safely pull to the side of the road. Put the vehicle in park and attempted to start. Heard noise as if everything was turning on except the engine. Waited 5 minutes and the vehicle started up again. I drove the vehicle straight home and have not tried to drive it again. It is a Sunday and the dealership is not open so I have to wait until Monday to call and request service. A google search of my Jeep showed lots of complaints with transmission as well as a video of a trailhawks dash doing exactly what mine did.
While driving in snowy conditions east on hwy 80 near truckee CA. The vehicle lost forward drive and the engine on its own sped up and down from 4000 rpm to redline for several seconds and then returned to normal operation. We were almost hit from the rear due to rapid deceleration. A few miles later the same thing happened with the exception forward control did not return and we were forced to the side of the highway cutting dangerously close in front of a semi truck, our location on the side of the road was not safe! after turning the engine off and back on we were able to drive away only to experience the condition again and were forced to coast off the highway onto a gravel turnout. The car at that point would not shift into any drive gear and we were towed into reno nv were the next day a "software" update was performed and we started our drive home only to loose forward motion once again and force to the shoulder of the narrow mountain highway. Restarting the engine cleared the issue and we drove home and then the next week took it to our local auburn CA. Dealer to be repaired. The dealer kept the car 4 days and returned it after a "software" update. In the less that 20 mile drive home the car lost forward momentum two times and the engine sped up and down again like before, also making grinding a thumping noise. We were able to limp home and had the car towed back to the dealer in auburn. We are waiting to hear from them as it is the weekend. I am afraid for our safety on the highway now driving this car!.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled while at a stop light. The contact also stated that when shifted gears into drive or park, the transmission would make a loud knocking noise. The transmission warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to kelly Jeep Chrysler (353 broadway, lynnfield, MA 01940, phone number: (888) 694-7177) to be repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 16v529000 (power train); however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer (grava Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram srt, 29 mystic Ave, medford, MA 02155, phone number: (781) 391-8950) where it remained and was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 39,400.
Sometimes, when the transmission shifts into 3rd gear (around 32 mph), it does a very hard shift and there is a noticeable clunking noise throughout the car.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the gear shift failed to work and a loud noise was heard when attempting to change gears. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000.
2015 Jeep Cherokee latitude 4x4 - when pressing the accelerator at a stop light/sign, it acts as if it is in neutral for a few seconds prior to taking off. It will often jerk hard when it does move as if it is dropping into gear. Often times the jerk is hard enough that it will throw me back in the seat and makes a horrid noise. The jerk can happen after stopping or randomly auto shifting while driving down the road. I've kept a diary of logistics (hill, flat surface, winter, summer, rain, dry, slow driving, fast driving, etc. . . ) and there is absolutely no rhyme or reason to when it's going to "act up". Someone mentioned an O2 sensor? I've had it into the dealer a few times and have been told there's nothing wrong with it, it's normal for this to happen (both the feeling of being in neutral when taking off and the hard jerking when shifting). I worry my transmission is going to fall out of my car when this happens!.
After having a software flash to my transmission I noticed the shift lever becoming harder to use. This happens especially backing out of a drive or when spotting a travel trailer. Recently I had a loud noise appear and as I drove decided to shift to neutral to see if it was drive train related. To my surprise I was unable to put the vehicle back in drive and I was on a busy street. I had to come to a full stop before the drive selector engaged. The dealer did this upgrade when the car was in for service without any previous notice. If the car is in any motion the shifter will lock out drive or reverse if put into neutral. I was told this was fiats fix for the problems with the grand Cherokee and that it cannot be reversed. I find this a big problem. It sounds like a small band aid fix that created another problem. When my car was new it did not act like this. This is no longer the vehicle I purchased and would not recommend it to anyone. I have not heard of any problem with the shifter mechanism on this vehicle. I want my old shifter back again. This problem makes it difficult to put my trailer in a campsite where I have to go back and forth to park it. I called chryslers 800 number with no satisfaction. Again if the vehicle is moving a tiny bit and the shifter is put neutral it is locked out until the car is completely at a standstill. If a child reaching to the front seat accidentally moves the shifter on the freeway into neutral you will have to come to a complete stop before you can engage drive again.
I purchased this vehicle in September 2016 and it was seen in the service department in October 2016 for a loud click from the brake (told this is normal) and the vehicle shutting off during idle twice. An update was done but the issue continued. November 2016 I brought the vehicle in because the back seat would move back and forth if someone was not sitting in it (they had to replace the whole back seat) but as I was driving into the service doors the vehicle skipped and tried to die with lights flashing on the dash. Service could not duplicate. December 2016 brought in because the vehicle kept skipping when trying to take off from a stop. On two occasions it completely stalled but service was unable to duplicate. The vehicle also had issues with shifting too early at times and then shifting was delayed other times. Once again issue could not be duplicated. Later in December I brought it back again and was told there was possibly a fix. January 2017 the vehicle was brought back again due to stalling and the multi air actuator was replaced. The issue continued as the service manager searched for an answer until I had enough in October 2017 when it came to a stop for no reason and the vehicle would make a terrible noise in reverse at times. Service along with fca attempted to fix it but could not duplicate the issue. When I got the vehicle back it it always skips in idle, makes a lawn mower sound in idle and when shutting off makes a whining noise. I have stopped driving the vehicle and am trying to get fca to do the right thing via georgia's lemon law. I have done my due diligence following fca's required steps and they said they cannot duplicate my issue but would give me a good faith payment for my time. I have asked to talk to supervisors etc but am told that is not their protocol and they closed my case. This vehicle is unsafe!.
While going up a steep hill,it makes a thump/bang when shifting between 4th and 5th gear automatically. It does not happen all the time. You can actually feel a vibration through the floor boards when it happens. It also hesitates slightly when it occurs. The noise it loud enough that even if the radio is on it can me heard. My wife in the passenger seat also made comment that she heard the noise and felt the vibration. Auto transmissions are not supposed to shift like this. I was told recently that is characteristic of the vehicle to shift ruff between those gears but this is more then just ruff shifting. It also accelerates on it s own when you leave off the gas on it's own and not slow dpown lie it should.
