1 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/04/2021

For the past three weeks the car has been showing transmission problems but until recently the transmission remained in neutral and filed to shift to another gear. It makes a loud clang sound when shifting gears and automatically shuts down after. The parking brake wouldn't disengage, a message saying "service parking brake" appears on screen. When accelerating the car does not respond normally. There was another message showing "tranmission service" when the car was on park and the car unexpectedly shift to neutral and made a loud roar round jerking forward.

2 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/25/2020

Constant transmission issues/ jerks and hard thrusts. Been in Jeep dealership many times with complaint. Same issues now out of warranty. Now as of Dec 25 2020, vehicle went completely dead , came back on and now throws all service lights on dash and vehicle will not move out of gear. Have to disconnect battery to put into park/neutral to move out of way. Undriveable . This 2014 lattitude has been a nightmare and an unsafe vehicle from the beginning. Unfortunately I was upside down on finance or it would have been gone. Now with it almost being paid off I am in financial ruin over this once again. Unsafe vehicle.

4 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/08/2020

The 2014 Jeep Cherokee trail hawk has had multiple issues with it not shifting into gear, being "confused" after coming to a stop and not shifting into the proper gear. When trying to accelerate after a red light or stop sign vehicle will not go when the accelerator is engaged, then after a few seconds it unexpectantly lunges forward into gear and into traffic. All recalls have pointed to this being a "software" issue and I have had all software recalls completed on the transmission and the problem persists. This vehicle has had this problem shortly after purchase and continues to have it on a daily basis. Recently this issue cased the 4wd unavailable light to go off, and now the vehicle will not shift in 4wd low. After multiple trips to the dealer the consensus is that the batter is not functioning properly even though it is operating at the proper current and voltage.

5 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2017 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/10/2020

I have owned this car from new. Within the first year service shifter was displayed on the main driver display, and all lights on the shifter bezel lit up. After months waiting for parts, the dealership eventually replaced the shifter which cured it. It happened again around 2 years later, and again the bezel was replaced. It's now happened a third time, in sept of 2020. I took it to the dealership and they ordered the parts again. I am still waiting for the parts, 5 months later. It seems thousands of Jeep owners have been affected by this same problem, you can search on google for service shifter and see many stories and complaints about this issue, which largely, but not exclusively seems to affect Jeep Cherokees. Many owners have experienced the same issue happening again and again. Some people have been told it's a problem with fuses becoming loose, others have been told it's a wiring issue. While Jeep and the dealership have told me verbally the car is still safe to drive, it does disable certain things, and I dispute the car is safe to drive. For example, manual gear shifting is disabled when service shifter is displayed. That means you cannot select the gear you want manually, that is beneficial in situations like going down a hill or while off-roading. Secondly, service shifter is displayed permanently on the driver's display. It cannot be cleared from the display. That means that certain features cannot be accessed at all. This includes: tire pressure coolant temperature transmission temperature oil temperature oil life (and ability to reset it after an oil change) battery voltage fuel economy info trip info screen setup (customization options).

6 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/28/2020

While I was driving down a hill the car dinged and it said service transmission, when I was on flat road after the hill the car was not shifting gears its like it was stuck in a higher gear, if I slowed down it all it would jerk and sputter till I got it going a lil faster, but it would still not change gears.

7 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/23/2020

An error that continues to come and go is to service shifter. it is apparent there are moments that the shifter sputters, the car will not shift gears (automatic) and refuse to accelerate. The check engine light also comes on for this. Deal ships do not seem to act aware of this issue, but it seems extremely prevalent online. It appears to be based on a faulty shift in the vehicle or bad wiring. However, the deal ships act like nothing is wrong but will change it for you for around $7,000. The car sputtering and refusing to shift while trying to accelerate is extremely dangerous from faulty components and needs to be investigated. It's clear a recall is needed for this.

8 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/22/2020

Has check engine light on and says service park brake. The traction and parking brake light is on. It will not shift into gear. Jerks really bad and makes a loud noise when you can get it to shift. My Jeep was parked out front of my house.

9 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/09/2020

Not switching gears properly. There's a hard jerk/thrust while trying to automatically switch gears. Thought I got rear ended how hard it jerked! while turning on a very busy highway car has went from drive to neutral several times while driving. Which can cause a major accident. Almost did! this has happened on several occasions can't recall specific dates and times but just recently on 02/09/2020.

10 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2017 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/01/2020

The shifter does not shift the gears correctly not communicating to the engine all lights are red on shifter gear making it unsafe to drive. The windshield wiper hose was never added to passengers side making visibility hard in slush or winter weather with only the driver side hose hooked up it doesn't clear the windshield properly.

11 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/26/2019

Since new, we have had problems with the transmission hesitating and lurching. From a stop, or from a slow speed such as when coming out of turning a corner, the transmission will hesitate to "hook up", as though it is slipping, then suddenly throw you forward as it "hooks up / catches". It is very dangerous at an intersection when you may be trying to get through the intersection as cross-traffic is coming, and your car will not move at the speed you need it to, then suddenly it will lurch forward. At other times, the transmission will clunk at 40 mph as though someone has struck the car from behind. We have had the software flashed by the dealership two or three times. Usually this worked for a short period of time, but the problem always returns. The second transmission issue is that the shifter will malfunction, while driving the car, and throw an error code of "service shifter". When this happens you do not know what gear you are in. Again, very dangerous. All of these problems occur when the vehicle is in motion.

12 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/02/2019

Service shifter display on instrument panel. Cannot change gears. All over world wide web with others having same issue. Jeep dealer replaced. With new wire harness and gear shift bezel. $500 dollars. Might have been a serious safety issue. Wire harness was not soldiered correctly to shifter bezel.

13 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/20/2019

While driving at 70 mph in fast lane of major high, slight uphill grade, engine rpm increased rapidly and loss of power transfer to wheels as if in neutral. Coasted to side of road (fortunately light traffic) and at about 25 mph transmission engaged and I returned to highway. In about 5 more miles same loss of power to wheels occurred and then re-engaged as vehicle came to stop. Following day, after about 10 miles while at 55 mph, Jeep again lost connection to wheels and engine rpm increased. Pulled over to side of roadway (local county route with moderate 2-way traffic), stopped engine. Started engine several times but transmission would not engage in any gear (reverse, fwd etc. ) in any selected gear location. This Jeep has active drive ii. Had Jeep towed to authorized service. Dealer response possible overheated ptu, will require further investigation. My research indicates may be part of recall s55/NHTSA 16v-529.

14 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/20/2019

Event 1 (Nov 2019) was passing a car, going 68 on freeway, got into right lane backed my foot off the gas to slow a bit and the car stayed in "passing gear" revved up high on the tach. And would not come back down until I took my foot completely off the gas. Event 2 (Nov 18, 2019) stopped at a stop sign, applied gas to go and it went nowhere. The engine sounded like it was going fast, but I was not in gear. I had to take my foot completely off the gas, the car lunged forward with two quick hops a couple of times then went into gear. Event 3 (Nov 20, 2019) going slow in a parking lot the car just died on me. No reason. This Jeep has only 28,000 miles on it. It shifts hard!! actually goes into gear at times so rough that it makes me lunge forward, it jerks a lot while going slow like it's not in the right gear. I am going to Jeep tomorrow to have it checked out, but after reading all these complaints, I see where I might be in for a long haul.

15 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

When driving the Jeep shift extremely hard into gear. Today we stopped at a red light and went to take off the car went to shift but would not shift into gear causing us to stop in the intersection almost getting hit. We had to place it into park and restart the car to get it to move back into gear. This is an ongoing issue. The dealer cannot find the issue and will not take the time to duplicate. They show no interest on trying to solve the issue, just passing the buck.

16 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/29/2019

Car has completely stalled and locked up to a point where the steering wheel cannot be moved, hazard lights will not turn on, cannot change the gear at all. Had to have a flat bed tow because the wheels were locked, tow driver had to use dish soap to get the wheels to slide up the ramp. Jeep dealership first replaced the battery, then replaced the bcm and it is still a solid brick. They have no idea what is wrong. This has cost me $600 so far without even a repair. My 17 year old daughter is driving this dangerous car. I have seen the forums and this is a common problem with this Jeep, it needs a recall. As soon as we can get it running again, we will be trading it in. I can't have her in a death trap, it stalls without warning and we had to put the hood up to warn other drivers because the hazards wouldn't even turn on. This car only has 23000 miles on it, it should really not be doing this.

17 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/19/2019

The "service shifter" warning message appears in the "message screen" & you cannot clear it so the mph & other needed driving data is unavailable. Also all of the shifter lights become illuminated so you cannot see what gear the transmission is in. "cargurus. Com" has a lot of complaints on this safety issue. Car is in motion & stationary;. The shifter service message appears. It 1st occurred yesterday; 8/19/2019 to me. This is a safet issue because my mph etc is unavailable & I cannot verify gear I am in. (drive/reverse etc).

18 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2017 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/20/2019

"service shifter" message appeared on screen, all lights on pnrd turned red, could not see what gear vehicle was in. Had to turn car off to get message to leave. Has happened numerous times now. . Vehicle was in motion, on both city street and highway.

19 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/09/2019

When slowing to almost a stop but not fully stopping, vehicle does not select a gear immediately when the accelerator is pressed. The vehicle will not engage a gear for several seconds whic results in being unable to accelerate all. When the vehicle does engage a gear, there is a sudden jolt if the accelerator is still pressed. It is a safety concern because when the gear is not engaged you cannot accelerate the car at all until it finally engages.

20 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/08/2019

My Jeep will jump forward uncontrollably while moving between 9-13 mph. When it happens, it sounds like a bomb going off in the transmission slamming gears down. This happens regularly and can not be controlled. Often times this will happen with the shift lights are all red and you can not tell what gear you are in. I've had this shift module replaced multiple times and on the way home from the dealer will jump again.

21 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/07/2019

Near death experience too many times. Have reported this to the dealerships and to Jeep headquarters. It is a known issue with Jeep and they fail to do anything about it. If you try to accelerate from a incomplete stop (such as slowing down on a ramp and then speeding up) the car does not shift into gear and you are left sitting in the middle of dangerous traffic. Eventually it will shift and buck and throw the car into high speed as the transmission tries to catch up to the fuel that was dumped into the engine as a result of the car not changing gears and going forward when the gas was first applied. Have narrowly avoided being blind sided in intersections almost daily!!! so sick of Jeep not fixing it, and knowing about the issue for years and years and years. It is a death machine just waiting for the next kill. You can see all the complaints on this year (2014) and (2015) with this car. I have had into the shop repeatedly since purchasing this vehicle new and still no resolution from Jeep. They don't care if you die in the car, even though they know the car will not shift into gear when trying to accelerate from a stop or a slow roll. This report wants to know when this happened. It happens every single day since the day we bought the car. I would have reported it daily if I had known this form existed before today.

22 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/12/2019

The transmission in the vehicle has been an issue since I bought the vehicle new. It hesitates and eventually jerks forward when attempting to climb a hill, and the transmission doesn't gear down properly when going downhill. I've returned it to the dealer for software updates in the past but haven't seen a difference. Now I have an alert for "service shifter" appearing, with the shifter lights all illuminated. I've called the dealer multiple times, and finally was able to get a service appointment, but the appointment is a month away because they're so backed up. I asked the service rep whether this could be a hazard and was told the vehicle may not go into gear so the vehicle could leave me stranded. A month for a service appointment, really?? this is a serious hazard and now I'm trying to figure out what do to about an upcoming vacation planned, which happens before the service appointment. I'm also worried about the appointment itself, and what will happen to the car afterwards, since I've read online comments about worsening conditions after cars have been serviced. The "service shifter" message had been appearing periodically but now (starting 5/12/19) it's coming on during almost every drive.

23 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2016 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/26/2019

The service shifter message displays on the screen and you can't tell if the the is in dprn becuase all the lights are red. The car sometimes will not shift out of gear. Or jerks when it finally does. This care hesitates while in motion and as well as when stationary and trying to move. This is very dangerous. I have taken this vehicle to the dealer who stated that the recall they had was only for a software update with the shifter but this issue should also be a recall with them covering the repairs. I have less than 50k miles there is no reason why I should have to cover the expense of replacing the shifter assembly becuase the shifter is not covered under the warranty they sell you.

24 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/01/2018

Vehicles nine speed automatic transmission does not go to first gear upon making a complete stop. The transmission goes automatically to third gear or second gear. This results in the transmission starting from a stop from third gear (unless manually downshifted) reducing power and can result in a slow take-off, increasing risk of a collision or the vehicle rolling back into vehicles behind the car. I have had several close calls because of this. Ninth gear never engages, this has to result in lowered fuel economy and reduced engine and transmission life as does starting from third gear. I believe the transmission to be defective and have read of numerous complaints from other customers of these exact same problems. The vehicle has received re-programming on all recalls and now Jeep customer service states this is "normal" and "no defect" thus, no repair necessary and not covered by warranty. Vehicle was advertised and sold to me as a "nine speed automatic transmission" in effect, Jeep deceived customers selling them an eight speed semi-automatic transmission. Email chain attached.

25 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/27/2018

I have a 2015 Jeep Cherokee limited 4x4, when I try to slow down or stop the vehicle will speed up. It is like you are giving it gas instead of applying the break. It was purchased with around 13500 miles on the odometer on 9-22-2018, it now has 21360 miles as of 11-27-2018. The transmission completely stopped working on the highway in traffic. The transmission would not make the vehicle move and acted as if it was not in any gear. It has seamed to have issues from the time I purchased it and I was told by a Jeep dealership that it was just the normal way that the 9 speed transmission worked. If this is normal for a transmission to fail at 21000 miles I feel that is a major concern and a huge issue.

26 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

Shifting hard through the gears. Sometimes not shifting in the correct order. Surging or lurching forward when shifting. Going up hills (20mph) transmission will stay in a higher gear resulting in low power. Starting at a stop light transmission will not go into gear.

27 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to change gears properly. An independent mechanic inspected the vehicle and stated that there was a delay with the gears properly changing over. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v529000 (power train). The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not notified. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

28 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/15/2018

When I go to accelerate from a stopped position the vehicle hesitates and does not shift gears. It has made me not be able to pull out into ongoing traffic safely. While the vehicle is in motion it will shift gears at the wrong times and not when I need it too. It will sometimes cause me to slow down or speed up unexpectedly. I have almost gotten in several accidents because of this.

29 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/23/2018

Have been having problems since March, 2015 with the new 9-speed zf automatic transmission dropping out of gear into neutral, not shifting while travelling at highway speed, low speeds, etc. Have taken it to farrish, cjd in fairfax, virginia, hoover cjd in summerville, SC and rick hendricks cjd in north charleson, SC. All were "unable to duplicate" the shifting problem. According to my maintenance records, the wiring harness recall was accomplished on July 12, 2016. Since that time, the transmission has had the same issues at least once each week, sometimes multiple times. Following are the latest problems I've recently had: 1. Friday, June 29thwhen i1st cranked, service transmission came on in the heads-up display and the Jeep wouldn't go into reverse. 2. Monday, Jul 2, '18 while driving, car shifted into neutral while driving and would not go into gear. 3. Friday, Jul 20th, '18 service transmission came on in hud while driving at 25 to 30 mph. Jeep wouldn't shift to higher gear. Jeep travels but never shifts and rpms increased to over 3000. Stopped car at my destination, cut it off and allowed it to reset, and worked fine on my drive home. 4. Friday, Jul 20th-while driving in north charleston, service transmission came on in hud and the Jeep felt like it shifted into neutral. No power! Jeep went from 2400 rpms to close to 1000 rpms. Floored accelerator and had no power and Jeep would barely move. 5. Monday, Jul 23, 18-while driving 25 to 30 mph, service transmission came on the hud and Jeep wouldn't shift to higher gear. Rpms increased but it wouldn't shift to the next gear. From a stop, it appeared to shift out of first but wouldn't shift into the next gear. I have videos of the above multiple incidents.

30 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2017 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/20/2018

. The transmission jerks so hard at times in low gears that it feels like you are hit from the rear. Shifting of trans is not smooth at low gears especially on a incline. This has happend multiple times.

31 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/13/2018

Entering I 264 va, pressed accelerator resulting in a lurching motion, the vehicle would not accelerate causing other vehicles to swerve to avoid rear ending our 2018 Jeep Cherokee latitude. It repeated this action many times as we limped home under 40 mph. We were afraid to drive the vehicle and called the dealer (southern Chrysler Jeep at greenbrier). The dealer authorized towing the vehicle in for repairs. The service representative called us and said the transmission mechanic authorized ordering a new transmission due to the fact that the transmission would not come out of gear.

32 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/12/2018

Transmission not shifting properly. From stop the "d" for drive blinks and it wont go into gear. Happened twice. Car lunges and kicks when shifting with possibility of going out at speed.

33 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/22/2017

I had just left the gas station where I filled up. When in gear from a stop there was a lengthy delay as the engine rpm's rise and vehicle barely moved. After 10 to 20 seconds another gear will engage and the vehicle will pick up speed at which point another gear will violently slam into operation. The vehicle will seem to function normally at that point until slowing down when the vehicle shifts violently and erratically, shifts into neutral without warning. By now all warning lights have lit up. Check engine light, parking brake light, "service transmission" appear on display and that alternates with "shift to park and then to desired gear". Shutting the vehicle off and restarting after 24 hours revealed that only the "check engine" light was on and when vehicle is put in "drive", there was no violent gear engagement, but vehicle barely moved. I put the vehicle back in park and shut it off.

34 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/06/2017

I was driving and the speed was declining until it completed stopped and would not allow me to accelerate anymore. I was stranded on the side of the road, I tried to put it back in drive but it would only roll backwards even though I was not in reverse gear. Then it started smoking and leaking coolant.
